Some of scariest stuff ever!  I can still see that thing...on the wing...William Shatner freakin' out because he was the only one seeing it.  Gave me nightmares!!

Rod Sterling was ahead of his time. The show did so much with so little.

The best Sci-Fi television show of the fifties or sixties. Great writing, used journeyman or beginning actors. A lot of future greats had their first large audience exposure on the Twilight Zone. Serling was the main writer for the first season only. He supervised the writing starting the second season. The story quality dropped a bit after that but the show was one not to be missed. Always entertaining, thought provoking, and leading edge story lines for the fearful fifties.

Many up and coming actors/actresses cut their teeth in this series.

The Sci-Fi channel's Twilight Zone marathon is a family tradition. I can (and I have) watched many of the episodes multiple times without tiring of them.

Serling was a clever wordsmith working in a medium rarely graced by the presence of such individuals. The colorized knock-offs that followed lacked the charm of their predecessor. Mr. Serling was one of a kind.

One of the most creative and best television shows EVER.

Great entertainment that actually (GASP) made people THINK.This show was likely the only "mind expansion" experienced by most folks in the 50s!Light years ahead of its time.

I was just a kid in the early sixties and this show scared the hell out of me. As an adult looking back, I realize how great this show was. It was always thought provoking and had great suprise endings. My favorite show was when these two scientist and their families steal a spaceship to flee a pending atomic war. At the very end it is revealed that they are headed to a planet called earth! This show is a classic that is still seen in syndication to this very day.

This wont be a helpful review, but i just wanted to say The Twilight Zone is by far one of the best television shows of all time. Original, creative, thought provoking, and just plain fun to watch. I recently watched The Twilight Zone Marathon on the Sci-Fi channel and fell in love with it all over again. Rod Sterling is a genuis, no doubt about that.

sometimes i think i really live in the twilight zone. i used to watch the shows all the time one in particular scared the hell out of me. it was the talking tina doll one. after that dolls that talked were banned from my house. i was taking no chances.

Serling had a tendency to get preachy and pedantic, and the occasional attempts at comedy fell flat, but at its best, this series had a tremendous power and influence that has resonated down through the decades. Its best episodes are absolutely haunting, their enormous potency undiminished, and can still bring a tear to the eye of a hardened old reprobate (just kidding) like myself (the episode where Gig Young goes back in time to his boyhood home still brings a lump to my throat, as just one example). The archetype of what television could be at its creative, imaginative best.

This was a unique trailblazer. I always enjoy watching many major stars appear in this series where not more than a few got their starts.

The best show in the history of American television. Rod Serling was a creative genius who got standout performances from many Hollywood stars (Telly Savalas, William Shatner, Robert Redford, Burgess Meredith, etc.) who had yet to enjoy their greater successes on TV or in film. Great fun and always intersting!

I like the suspence and the point where you start asking whatis today's paranormal adventure.

Not as creepy as today's scary movies but it was more of a kind of Sci-fi type show. And it rocked!

My favorite series of all time, by far. The best episodes help define the eternal middle ground between reality and fantasy, the conscious and unconscious, the known and the unknown. Also sheds light on a unique moment in the history of our culture, the late '50s and early '60s. Not every episode was great, but I rate it a 5 because the best episodes were SO great, there were a lot of good ones, and you don't have to watch the weak ones if you don't want to. Just a great and timeless show. It did have a few stinkers though, but most episodes were so good that it still gets 5 stars.

One of the finest TV shows ever, and amazingly, made on one of the smallest budgets. Really a stunning effort; at its best it was thoughtful, literate, and utterly unforgettable. I wish there was something like it today; I might actually watch the television.

I loved it as a kid but time has taken it's toll on the Twilight Zone. Now most of the episodes just seem goofy. I appreciate it for what it was.

There is not much I can add to what the other reviewers have already said about the show and Rod Serling. There are just two points I would like to make which in my view contributed to the success and unique quality of the show. The first was Serling's use of actors known mostly for their comedy talent in dramatic roles. The story that comes to mind is where Jonathan Winters and Jack Klugman play pool competitors. As mentioned, Ed Wynn, a long famous radio comedian, was used in dramatic parts as was Buster Keaton, one of the best comedians from the silent film era. Serling's scripts were able to bring out the best in the performers whether it was an up and coming young James Coburn or a seasoned veteran such as Burgess Merideth. My second point is that the Twilight Zone was not afraid to acknowledge God. This is especially evident in episodes such as the one where Mr Wordsworth, played by Burgess Merideth, was condemned to death for being obsolete. There are countless other references to God and morality throughout the series. In my opinion, this is why the later version and its copycats have all failed. The newer shows were simply scary stories with happy endings. Serling's Twilight Zone always had a moral to the story. Sometimes whimsical, sometimes serious, but there was always an underlying message to do the right thing. Combine a sense of morality with the genius of Rod Serling, present it with actors and actresses of high caliber and you have a program that will never grow old in content.

Really, really neat show! Seems like there was so much more thought put into the writing of shows back then. I guess that is obvious.

I only have one thing to say ... It's a COOKBOOK!!!!!!!. You know what I'm talking about...

T-Zone, even today, is thought provoking SCI-FI. From the chilling theme song, to the intro from taciturn Rod Serling (The fact that he's been dead for over 30 years and seeing him with the cigarette is like having a spectre in your living room), it's TV at its finest. The stories are all creative and reach into your most primal fears. The one where the boy (Bill Mumy from Lost in Space) turns the dude into a jack in the box still makes my skin crawl. My favorite thing is seeing the future mega-stars cutting their acting teeth -- Redford, Shatner, Klugman, and so many others. There just aren't shows like this anymore. Too bad.

This show would go on my top 10 of the best shows of all time. Rod Serling was a genious. His stories hooked you from the start. They were sometimes creepy, bizarre, emotional and a lot of times taught a lesson. They also featured some of the best actors of the time.

Most of the time: compelling premise, great writing, solid performances. Some of the time: stupid premise, overly verbose script, contrived performances. On the whole: one of the best TV series ever. Serling was a genius of the medium, and anyone familiar with this show can recount dozens of episodes: that's what an impact TZ had and how enduring those impressions are. Serling was from Central New York State, specifically Interlaken, and if you've ever been through that neck of the woods, you can see where the atmosphere in many of the episodes comes from.

Nothing short of brilliant will descibe this show.It had a cliber of writting this art form has not and will not see again.The only show I place near this is "Buffy".Both looked at the world ,living in this world and our place in this world,and the horror that can come from living in this world.If you haven't seen this ,than see it.My favorite is "Walking Distance".A true look inside the man that was Rod Serling.

IMMENSELY entertaining show...I can count on one hand the number of episodes that were personally disappointing. Exceptionally creative for its time...

The Twilight Zone was never meant to be viewed by the faint of heart. Actually, this show and "I Love Lucy" are the two best shows of all time. On Friday nights, I'd slip into the den at 8pm and wait for Rod Serling's smooth introduction (synopsis) and a ticking clock that was flung into infinity. Several of the episodes have stuck in my memory: Dame Agnes Moorhead,who portrayed a frontier wife whose log cabin was invaded by aggresive spacemen; and Ed Wynn who made his one big sales pitch that "opened the heavens", and, doing so, caused Death, his customer, to forestall the salesman's appointed time of passing. The sabotage airline demons on the wings scared the heck out of me. Superb writing, top-notch actors, first-class directing and the irony employed made The Twilight Zone the classic it is today.

A great break from reality. Even the "bad" episodes are entertaining. This show fit well into its time because we can forgive the cheesy, not-so-special effects of the 60's. They actually make the show more fun to watch. I do think that this show would never make it today because producers would put more emphasis on the special effects rather than the great story telling and make it into more of a flashy eye-candy show rather than relying on writing. Classic science fiction at its best.

Loved it! Rarely an episode that was not interesting. A lot was packed into those half-hour morality plays. By comparison, the new Twilight Zone that recently began on UPS isn't even worth watching and does not deserve the name.

This particular show was so ineteresting because it was so different from any other show that was on at that time. It gave children a chance to be spooked and adults a chance to have their mind boggled. Interesting stories and intricate plots are what made this show such a hit!

Growing up in the late 50's and early 6o's, Twilight Zone used to scare the hell out of me. I am sure there are others that can identify with this. Some of those shows were creepy. I have a twilight zone bible that explains all the shows and what Serling thought of them. I even dug the hour shows. As any Sterling fan, I felt bad for him in his later years, because he was at his peak during those years and Night Gallery was such a disappointment. I feel robbed in the sense that the Twilight Zone should not have been cancelled in 1963. It was still drawing hugh ratings, however, fell out of favor with the incoming CBS President. Let me hear from you on your favorite episode(s). Once in a while, they will run a TZ marathon, wish I had every episode!!!!

TV that made you think. Some episodes you never forget. (1) The guy who saw the demon on the wings of the plane. (2) the guy who wore glasses only to have them break when he was the only one left in the world.

I would rate it in the top 5 of all tv shows ever! It truly stretched the imagination. Rod was ahead of his time, bless him!

Several of the episodes weren't very good, and many were more wordy than they needed to be. But when the better episodes were showing, they were the best thing on television. "Walking Distance," where a man wanders back into time and re-visits his childhood, is the best time-travel story I've ever seen in my life. Rod Serling was a deep thinker. I wish we had intelligent shows like this today.

I am continually amazed by how unique and creative this show is. It isn't quite like any other show. The stories by Rod Serling are usually the best. They are deep, thoughful and had a sense of integrity. The twist endings and Serling's closing comments are often literally spine chilling.
