My 8 year old son loved this show when it first aired. Hard to watch as an adult then or now.

Lets not forget that the new version is missing the kick ass cheesy 70's laser sound effects.

Loved it...the original, that is. Apparently, there is a new version out...I guess you could call it Battlestar Galactica: The Diversity Years. Starbuck (white guy) is now a white woman and Boomer (the black guy in the original) is now an Asian chick. Pathetic...I'll never watch. I'd love to know how the writers explained the sex changes of these two intergalactic warriors!

I'm probably overrating the original "Battlestar Galactica", but I loved this show as a wide-eyed child. This series had practically everything, namely fight scenes, pretty women, and spaceships and cool talking robots. The original movie was relatively well financed and written, obviously the reason some big names were attracted to the project (e.g. Lorne Greene and Jane Seymour). Clearly the producers recycled some fight scenes and other special effects due to financial restraints, but this was late 70's television after all and some allowances should be made, even if this was the most expense TV show ever made (at least it was at the time). Looking at the series with more mature eyes and tastes, "Battlestar Galactica" is still enjoyable to me if only for its retro aspects. I also see its similarities (probably intentional) to Vigil's "Aeneid" (a fictional account of Aeneas' flight from the sack of Troy).

OK, sometimes this show was much funner to watch the the current version of BG, but not as well made, plus STARBUCK IS A MAN!!! ... like he should be because he had a lot of charisma, not like the Starb*tch of today. actually BG was far more entertaing to watch and also not as corny as today's ABC garbage like the sappily, melodramatically, insipid American Inventor or the ultra boring The Bachelor. ABC just did not want to pay for this show!!! Fortunately, Sci Fi ressurected it and it is arguably one of the best dramas on TV, and that is now hype!! I do miss the old cylons though, ("by your command..."), as well as the Sheba and Cassiopeia the they really would like to see in the newer version of this classic.

Cool special effects in its day,a nice concept and best of all when that TV ham Lorne (Alpo)Greene would say from a planet know as EEEAAARTHH.I also loved Dr Smiths voice for the Lucifer Robot,Boltars corny badness.

God, and I thought Star Trek was bad. This abomination made Star Trek look like Shakespeare.

Outstanding cast and storyline! Truly a sleeping giant. The magic the show spun around the viewers still captures the spirit Twenty five years later.

Never watched the show until I met Richard Hatch at a sf con in 198-something (give me a break, it's been a long time!). It was a fun show, entertaining with fast action!

Godd in a very cheesy, fun kind of way. I watched because of Dirk Benedict, and it could very well be considered one of the worst shows of all time, but it was fun anyway.
Jamie McBain 06/22/2004
Cheesier than a jar of Cheez Whiz, bad effects, bad costumes, bad show.
louiethe20th 06/19/2004
No way this deserves to be down this low. Starbuck deserves 2 stars himself and give Muffett 2.

I watched because of Maren Jensen. Except for a made for tv horror movie, I haven't ween her since.

B.G. was a strange show.It tried to be too much fot too many groups. We had male and female eyecandy, robots special effects and Mr. Cartwright.I have been told each show was based on a famous movie redone as a scifi-western.I preferred Richard Benjamin in Quark to this show.

As much as I love sci-fi, I just never could get much into this show. They've been rerunning this on the sci-fi channel the last couple of weeks, and to tell the truth, the special effects are pretty amazing considering it was the late seventies and they were on a t.v. budget.

Battlesta Galactica was one of the best tv sci-fi shows ever. It ranks behind the Star Trek shows and Twilight Zone. Great cast, great battle scenes, and great music. Only downside, some of the battle scene footage from the first episode was repeated in following episodes. It's a bummer this show was cancelled.

can't say enough how much i loved this show as a kid. for me this was star wars on t.v. or as close as you get anyway. still enjoyable in re runs today. avoid the galactica 80 at all costs. total crap. stick with the orignal version of the show. one of the most underrated theme song/music in sci-fi. athena was hot even in re runs 70's hair and all. ri.p to my fellow canadians lorne green(adama) and john celicos(baltar)

I remember this show as a youngster and it came at such a good time when a lot of kids 5-10 were still buzzing about Star Wars and was craving more science fiction! Believe me, I was one of them. Those voices of the Cylons always spooked me and those space battles were always fun to watch. Does anybody remember this show actually started as a two-hour movie that aired on ABC then was released in theaters several months later. A wierd move on Universal Studios but it even did well in the theaters, too. Galactica '80 wasn't the same as Apollo and Starbuck but it was still fun to watch.
hall442 10/01/2002
Loved it! Lorne Greene was da man.
maudejunior 09/17/2002
I remember being completely entranced with this show as a child... it rocked as far as late 70's sci-fi TV. At the time, it was the most expensive show ever. Galactica 1980 was good eye-candy for it's time also. C'mon, remember guys--we're talking about television before cable & computers.
kissmerichard 12/30/2001
I admit; I've never seen Battlestar Galactica, but I have seen Galactica 1980. Actually, the only reason I watched that was because Kent McCord was in it, but I found it entertaining nonetheless. The scene in the first episode where they've just landed on earth and have no idea what anything is or does is hilarious.
knowhere man 06/26/2001
A friend called this one BATTLESTAR GALAXATIVE! This show was your regular Schlock ( not SPOCK ) SCI-FI @#*&;. But kind of entertaining.
callmetootie 04/07/2001
Battlestar Galactic is an embarrassing show itself. The acting is reall horrible, and there's never anything interesting going on. It was no wonder that it was cancelled after only one season. It was recently being reran on the sci-fi channel, but they found that it was even too bad for MST3K.
steve garcia 10/08/2000
boring
Wiggum 07/19/2000
This show was pretty cool when it first came out, but it would have been a whole lot cooler if it wasn't a pale relection of Star Wars. Still, the Cylons were great, with the shiny silver and black armor, the mechanical voices, and that red dot going back and forth on their visor. And you had to root for Apollo and Starbuck. Anyone remember that ridiculous 2-on-2 sport they used to show them playing? With the goofy pit and the stupid costumes? I'll never forget the episode where the discovered that there was another Battlestar out there (the Pegasus?) with some cocky, war-hero captain that clashed with Adama, Galactica's level-headed leader. You know, as I write this, I realize I know far too much about Battlestar Galactica...
