Ah, the A-team all rolled into one. Not so many funny oneliners though! Gotta say that mister anderson has gotten sexier as he got older, he is a fine thing in stargate. He always managed to get out of every situation he got himself into, you just gotta love him!
rschutt 09/15/2008
This is my all-time favorite show..ok, may have something to do with Richard Dean Anderson. But you have to admit, this show had lasting qualities. People still use "MacGyver" as a term for making your own fix-it creation!
Spike65 04/09/2008
Avoided it like the plague. My son loved it. More intelligent that A-Team by far.

Bill Nye the Science Guy meets Chuck Norris.

This series was awesome, but I have to admit, I'm rating it on how much I liked it as a kid rather than how I feel about it now. Arrgh, so corny, so hokey, so improbable.
Jamie McBain 08/12/2007
The fact that he solved problems, without a gun and everyday items instead, was my favorite thing about the show.
GenghisTheHun 05/05/2007
Ummm, let's see now. I give this mope a stale half full can of Pepsi, a paper clip, a stick of chewing gum and a condom, and he can blow up Lithuania. Yeah, I believe it! It has to be plausible for it to be entertaining for me.

Great show but he makes a better Jack ONeil
jefisher 12/31/2006
he became an icon! maybe he couldn't act, but come on!
Jeremy00081 09/19/2006
I wanted to give this show a lower rating because of the corny 80's acting and MacGyver's fluffy hairdo, but I just couldn't. It's too much of a classic. And I have to admit, it was cool to see what he's do to get himself out of the next jam he got in.

If it's fine by Patty and Selma it's fine by me

Liked RDA much better in SG 1. I do not believe how he could have looked so young though!!!

OMG, this show rocks! I'm glad they're playing reruns, cause I was a little tot when it was shown. This should be a top 10 tv show of all time.
numbah16tdhaha 12/08/2005
I learned how to make all kinds of BS gadgets by watching this.
rjy 08/12/2005
This was a good show, until Richard started to push his views on gun control on the series.
texasyankee 03/29/2005
Oh ya the guy could take a pen casing and some bubble gum and maybe a tree branch and make an airplane, that could fly and save 4 people from sure and uncertain death. Ok so it wasn't realistic but you have to admit it was fun to imagine having these powers to take every day objects and turn them into a life saving device.

Nothing past, present or future on television can compare to MacGyver. The writing was sharp, the production values were first-rate, the music was superb, the acting was generally effective. Considering the show was sabotaged by its network right at the time when it could have broke out as a major hit is a real shame. MacGyver was lucky to have a very loyal audience because it certainly didn't have a large audience due to ABC casting it in one time slot set in quicksand after another. It's remarkable the show survived beyond it's first season and the fact that it did is a testimony to its quality...and its appeal to all age groups. I knew 80-year-old men who were fans of the show, as well as 25-year-old women and 9-year-old boys. If the show had been taken seriously enough to realize its full audience, there would have been no limit to its popularity. It's funny how lame but popular shows of the era like A Different World and Empty Nest have forgotten by everyone while underachiever MacGyver lives on in reruns, as a cultural icon and in the hearts of its millions of fans nearly 20 years later. There were a number of fun and entertaining action TV shows in the 1980s, but none even hold a candle to MacGyver. There simply are not enough good things to be said about this show and I could go on all day trying.

I really miss this show.

I enjoyed watching this show, if it were not for his cleverness the show would not have been much at all.

Absolutely loved MacGyver. Was always interesting and clever. Richard Dean Anderson was perfect in the role. Would love to have it return as a new series.

Where else on television can you see someone make a catapult out of a keyboard, some shaving cream, and a #2 pencil? Nowhere. Oh, and what was his job, anyway? Whas he an FBI agent or something? I never got that.
RebelYell1861 05/11/2003
I never cared much for it but all my friends seem to like it for some reason. I guess I just missed something.

For about three episodes, this was a unique interesting show. After that, you pretty much knew what was going to happen; he's gonna take a paper clip, some string, and a rubber band and make a 747 jet to get himself out of danger.
Franchise34 09/18/2002
Was there anything that this guy couldn't do? I loved this show. Now if he only showed us how to create a devise to stop women from being so moody!
finlore 05/10/2002
An adventure show with a minimum of violence -- what a concept! Richard Dean Anderson was the perfect secret agent, escaping from dire situations with only what his ingenuity could create from mundane items. The show itself was always entertaining and managed to preach non-violence without being boring or heavy-handed. Is MacGyver on in reruns anywhere? I'd love to see it again.
MedgarEvers 11/26/2001
Haha- make fun of it all you want, but this was such an entertaining show. It was on my schedule for a while there- I watched "MacGyver" and "Highlander" consecutively. Macgyver is one of the only guys that could hold a show and stay alive in that show without a gun.
callmetootie 07/30/2001
I thought that the way that they used special effects in the show was OK but that was about it.
DarkWolf 11/01/2000
In it's day it was a good show.
Wiggum 07/20/2000
It's almost too easy to make MacGyver jokes. Any time someone shows up with an odd assortment of miscellaneous items, you can throw out the line, "If you were MacGyver, you could turn that stuff into a (insert name of complicated electronic device here)." I never watched this show regularly, but every time I saw it I was entertained by the creativity of the gadgets MacGyver would whip up. Like "Mr. Wizard" in action.
SamIAm 07/19/2000
Who else can make a nuclear weapon armed only with a Q-Tip, some Peanut Butter and a rubber band? You have to love MacGyver.
magellan 07/19/2000
I recently returned to work from the corner store with the somewhat odd purchase of a hard boiled egg, a can of Barbasol shaving cream, and a bag of cough drops. One of my cleverer co-workers immediately remarked that if I were MacGyver, I would be able to mold this bizarre combination of household items into an explosive. While I never much enjoyed the show MacGyver, any television program which is able, in some way, to spawn this level of humor is ok in my book.
vcg26060om 07/18/2000
MacGyver is the sexy, handsome, adorably rugged, non-offensive version of Martha Stewart. What's not to like? Each hour long episode featured the jack-of-all-trades, crafty like a fox, most handy of all handimen, MacGyver escaping from the clutches of evil with only his sharp intellect and whatever random items he may have had in his pockets. This is an exceptional television show that I really wish would be picked up for reruns. And it would probably be good training for future Survivor members to watch a couple of these episodes...
