The delicious Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine saves this one from a worse rating...

An almost-unwatchable entry into the Star Trek canon of series for plenty of reasons. I'll let others swing the axe. . .

The first three years of Voyager were excellent in my opinion. Kes was the one who encouraged The Doctor to explore his existence and she helped the crew realize he was more than just an EMH. Although I enjoyed Kes, Seven of Nine brought a lot to the table. Her stoic nature took a while to get used to at first, but having her explore her humanity with guidance from the Doctor and others was highly entertaining. Is it better than TNG? Not exactly. But it's hard to compare them. Voyager is not your typical Star Trek show. They had virtually no communication with starfleet, and had to fend for themselves. I enjoyed how each character was different yet they worked together towards a common goal of getting home.

Nowhere near as bad as some people say it is, Voyager was actually a pretty entertaining show, even though it's earlier seasons were pretty weak. But it's irrefutably true that Voyager dramatically improved with the dumping of the tedious Kes and the arrival of Seven of Nine played with aplom by the exceptionally talented Jeri Ryan. The show fell apart in it's final season though and the EMH was perhaps overused (but EMH was still a great character played by the immortal Bob Picardo, so who's really complaining?).

rjy, almost anything was better than Enterprise. Though personally, I thought after 7 of 9 showed up, the show started going downhill. Seemed to become the 7 of 9 show.

O.k. One thing. Janeway kicks ass!!!! Could kirk or picard fly a brand new star ship through a totally unexplored part of our galaxy? Err, no. I don't think so. Only a woman could do that. The characters were very good also, eclectic but somehow harmonious, which is exactly what i like about star trek. Much better than Enterprise and Deep Space Nine, (Which i have to admit bored me so much after watching just one episode each i never watched them again.) Probably not as good as The Next Generation but definitly better than the original, which, I'm sorry, just looked so fake after watching TNG and Voyager.

I don't think that Voyager is as good as The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine but I still enjoyed watching it. I did not feel the sparkle though between the team. It felt like they were just doing their job and that's it. I will still buy it on DVD.

Star Trek: Voyager 3

I used to really like Voyager when it was on every week. Seemed like an equal to the Original Star Trek. However, when I got the DVD's recently and watched 3 episodes or so in a row at one sitting, I discovered it really wasn't that great a show. Specifically, when watched in this manner it becomes apparent that every episode seems to be the same - with problem mounted with eminent alien attack and subsequent Voyager victory. Earlier seasons tended to be better (one through three). The show just seems to be a little too much of a money maker, not a creative venture - the repetive nature reflects this. Series like Deep Space Nine and TNG and TOS show writers who have their HEARTS in the show, and aren't lax enough to use formula. There are 2 or 3 individual episodes in each season worth watching - but series overall is weak.

When I first heard about Voyager everyone kept saying it was Star Trek meets Gilligan. I thought it was true to the original series more so than its prediscessors. You actually had a ship finding new life and new civilizations, going where no man had gone before. The characters were interesting as were most of the plots and it had a continuation to it where you could follow their story. I wish they could have stayed out there a little longer as it was a great show.

I find the pre-season 4 episodes painful to watch, they are so bad. I love the later episodes, even though its super campy and incredibly cookie-cutter story lines. The doctor is a wonderful actor.

the show started out crappy, peaked with the 4th and 5th season, and went downhill as it became the 7 of 9 and doc show towards the end. i only watched it occasionally until the blond bimbo #1 (kes) with blond bimbo #2 (seven). depsite the fact seven's only purpose in the show initally was to keep the 15 year old male audience happy, her character was interesting. the 4th a 5th season had a few good episodes each, until every episode after became about 7 or the doctor. and then they had to put kids in the show (naomi and the borg kid). nothing ruins a show faster that featuring brats in it. sometimes watchable, other times not. just not enough strong characters and not enough good stories.

Voyager and Deep Space Nine are equally poor overall. Voyager, like DSN, has reasonable acting and good special effects. The only difference was that Voyager is almost always tedious and even Voyager's best episodes are fairly ordinary.

Star Trek: Voyager 5

The most underrated of the Star Trek spinoffs, the show was certainly a great one. The acting was great, with a well-rounded cast of characters. Kate Mulgrew showed that she could recover from the travesty that was Miss Columbo and had a powerful presence. Robert Picardo was especially memorable as the Doctor and Tim Russ, as Tuvok, was the best Vulcan since Spock. The plots were also classic Trek, exploring new worlds and seeking out civilizations. This makes it much better than, say, the current remake of Battlestar Galactica, with its shaky camera work and focus on realism. It did the science very well in the plots that had them facing space. The aliens were quite interesting. Not only did you have unique Delta Quadrant aliens such as the Devore, Hirogen, Kazon, and more, you had the return of the Borg, and even the Ferengi! The crossovers with the other Trek series were well executed. Even the comedy episodes were excellent. Overall, a top-notch Science Fiction show.

Star Trek: Voyager 2

Better than the odious Deep Space Nine, where all they seem to do is bicker and fix equipment, but still not very good. It seems that the Star Trek people have decided to make up for the lack of compelling stories with an abundance of special effects, which aren't really that exciting. Also, I wish the writers would use a little imagination in creating alien races. Why does every single specimen of an alien race in the galaxy resemble a human being with about three pounds of coloured clay affixed to their face? At least in the original series they had non-humanoid aliens, even if some of them were simply thrown together using a floor mop and/or a bath towel. Now we have negroid Vulcans. Not to say that Vulcans could not possibly evolve separate races that are exactly analogous to those of humanity, but why would they? And why do aliens' personalities always seems to be those of particularly geeky humans? And I'm not Jewish, but even I can see the blatant anti-semitism demonstrated in the characterizations of the Ferengi. I also have problems with Kate Mulgrew, who has built an entire career on mimicking Katherine Hepburn, from her hairstyle to her voice to her mannerisms. I mean, she annoys me far less than she used to but I will probably never take her seriously, due to that voice and that affected accent. Oh well, it's a lucrative franchise and attracts a legion of fans who probably think of themselves as intellectual merely because they like science fiction (which Star Trek is NOT, it's a soap opera in space) and not because they are educated or well/read or anything.

Star Trek: Voyager 5

Star Trek: Voyager is my favorite of all the Trek shows. That is in large part due to Kate Mulgrew and her character, Kathryn Janeway. Mulgrew is perfect for the role of captain of the only Starfleet vessel "assigned" to the Delta Quadrant. She does so well whether she is being strong, commanding, threatening, protective, compassionate, moved, sad, lonely, or even naughty and teasing! I cannot say enough about how great it is to see a woman at the head of a Trek show. Janeway was a scientist before she became a commander. She's brilliant and a great leader. A great role model and an inspiration. I like that this show, in the great tradition of Trek, explored issues such as discrimination. Seven of Nine, as a former Borg drone, is one way through which this issue was explored. It did this less than the others, perhaps, but it was still there. And every single week, we had a strong female role model in the captain's chair, inspiring little girls and big girls alike. Going where no one has gone before. I have a beef with the producers for sending in Seven of Nine as eye candy for the young male demographic. But my disdain over their decision could not prevent me from loving the character! She and Janeway are great characters and MARVELOUS together. These characters grow. A lot of them have messed up in some way, but on Voyager, they get a second chance to live up to their potential and they do! Voyager is also about getting home and about what it means to be human--something that cannot be ignored when a group of humans (and their allies) are surrounded by aliens (and even have some in their crew). "It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end," said Ursula Le Guin. That's what Voyager is all about. So to quote Harry Kim's toast from Endgame, "To the Journey!" The best episodes, imo, include the following: Basics I and II, Scorpion I and II, Counterpoint, Equinox I and II, Hope and Fear, Relativity, Future's End I and II, Deadlock, Author Author, Message in a Bottle, Course: Oblivion, Dark Frontier I and II

My least favorite Star Trek show, but I haven't seen Enterprise yet. When this show was new, the promo commercials always played like the episodes were knock-offs of popular movies like Aliens, complete with Captain whats her name in a darkened starship, a dago-t, and a great big gun. Give me a break. The characters on this show were some of the worst, with the irritating beta-version Jar Jar Binks by the name of Neelix, Captain whiskey-and-cigarette voice, and African-American Vulcans. God what a trainwreck.

Star Trek: Voyager 2

I watched every episode because I love Trek, but this show sucked - I was often very disappointed. I dug 7 of 9 and the final episode, though. I wish the writers didn't have to wait 3 seasons before they finally figure out what works on these Trek spinoffs. They could use a bit more spicy material too - they play it way too safe. DS9 was cool - the Dominion War was excellent. But all the spinoffs suffer from about 2-3 seasons of crap before things started kicking. Voyager sucked because we didn't see Janeway kick ass until the very last episode or unless it was a fantasy sequence. The romance between Chakotay and 7 seemed forced, and the Paris / Belanna romance was boring. 7 of 9 should have been more of a force to be reckoned with. They never figured out what to do with Kim or Tuvok. I HATED Kes - whoever thought up her character should be drawn and quartered! I would never recommend this show. They could've made it better by customizing the ship as they went along, and the crew could've gotten a little bit darker. They started out very suspicious of each other's crews but by season 3 they dropped that whole subtext! Ever notice how little sex there is in all the spinoffs? Seems like a really boring future!

Star trek:Voyager is , in my mind, the best Trek spin off to date. As the first female captain, I think Kate did a wonderful job portraying Janeway- the true VOYAGER!! THe stories are more complex, we saw new and interesting species, and it it truly went where no one had gone before... and braved it through! Truly great show- I thought the romance and eventual child of Tom and Torres was fresh and extremely interesting. If you love Voyager, I would love to talk to you!! Contact me through this site!!

I really could not stand Star Trek or the Next Generation. It was a surprise to me how much I enjoyed this series. I would have rated it a 5 if they had taken the time to consider their female audience more and left out the sweater girl (7 of 9). Actually 7 was a great character; her outfits were ridiculous. Especially the space girdle. And B'lanna started out really cool and then became weak and trivial after she hooked up with Tom. Overall a great show.

Not as good as "The Next Generation" (the best of all the Treks), but a lot better than classic trek with the insufferably smarmy William Shatner - and a whole lot better than "Deep Space Nine," where everyone seemed to have been suffering angst and constipation. I have high hopes for the current series, "Enterprise," though, so far, that too pales by comparison with TNG.

Star Trek: Voyager 1

The worst of the Star Treks, it seemed to have little or no direction and forethought. It was a show built competely around the concept that a ship was lost and trying to get home, but they didn't know what to do with that concept. They started off okay, having the crew look for food and resources, but eventually they became almost magically self-sufficient. They really needed to play up the idea of making allies or trading partners, but instead all they did was make enemies and yet still somehow survived attacks from everyone they encountered. Many of its episodes were re-treads of stories from previous Treks. And on top of everything else it had wrong with it, it also had the most annoying characters and the worst actors (except maybe for the original series). Also, I guess I'm in the minority of guys who did not find Seven of Nine sexy. She was monotone, dull, and annoying.

Star Trek: Voyager 5

I absolutely love Star Trek:Voyager! Like all things sci-fi, my dad got me hooked. I like the characters because of their depth. They are always learning lessons and overcoming obstacles, such as Tom Paris recovering from his criminal past, and B'Elanna Torres overcoming the nastier aspects of her Klingon heritage. I also like Captain Kathryn Janeway, because, unlike some of the earlier captains, she is more compassionate toward both her crew and the aliens they encounter in the Delta Quadrant. The characters are very diverse, from the holographic doctor to the ex-Borg to the wannabe chef. The show itself, like all Star Treks of the past, touches on many relevant points in today's society, such as unfounded hatred that leads to war, racism, and many other moral issues. After all, the crew was stuck in the Delta Quadrant in the first place after one of Captain Janeway's moral decisions. The show itself is full of surprises, and you honestly never quite know how it is going to end. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, you end up thrown for another loop. The show also has many elements that appeal to varied audiences- from action/adventure, to romance, to heart-wrenching tragedy. For all those who are looking for something out of the ordinary, cruel yet compassionate, funny yet tragic, have I got a show for you! Check it out in reruns! (Fox carries them at 11 PM CDT) Don't miss out!
