 | georges11 (16) 10/11/2007 | This was a pretty intense series. Gandolfini was perfect for the role he played. The actors and storylines were so convincing this at times felt like a documentary on the life of a mobster.

 | Jed1000 (72) 06/11/2007 | Looks like I'm the exception here but I loved the ending. The entire thing was like a ticking time bomb... especially Meadow's troubles parking that car. Man, my heart was in my throat the entire time. Great writing.
A couple of things to keep in mind: 1.. Those two guys who came into the restaurant are the same two guys who tried to whack Christopher a couple of seasons back, 2.. Tony's father was whacked in a restaurant with his entire family present, and the family was spared, 3.. The Journey song "Don't Stop Believing" was playing in the background, 4.. HBO has already destroyed all the sets.
In spite of that last item I see a movie coming in a couple of years. Even James Gandolfini has said that he isn't opposed to the idea. My idea of what happened after 'fade to black'... There's a gun battle, everyone but Meadow survives..... movie in 2010.

JUST PLAIN BAD WRITING AND DISREGARD FOR YOUR FANS.....!!!!!

NOT A GOOD WAY TO END...I'M SURE I WON'T WATCH ANYMORE HBO SERIES!

 | GenghisTheHun (168) 06/10/2007 | UPDATE AFTER FINALE: I am grossly disappointed in this outcome. This is very pedestrian as far as I am concerned.

UPDATE: Many endings have been taped and I am interested to see the dvd to see all the variations. It all depends on Gandolfini's attitude. Does he want to keep the Tony Soprano figure alive for the future? If so, then, I think everyone will get bumped off and Tony will be sitting in the back room of the 'Bing, all alone. (This would allow for the movie or a return, however.)
If Gandolfini is bone-tired of the role, then Tony is going to die. I would not be surprised if Paulie doesn't turn on Tony to sell him out at the end. This means that Phil Leotardo has suborned Paulie. Everyone dies and Paulie winds up running the remains of the DiMeo operation as part of Phil's big organization.
Sylvio Dante appears to be done as we note that he is not expected to recover. Patsy Parisi, who was in the gunfight when Sylvio was shot, hates Tony anyhow as Patsy's twin brother was killed on Tony's orders because the twin intimated that Tony tried to kill Tony's mother.
It will probably be the decline and fall of the Empire.
ORIGINAL COMMENT: It's great--I love over the top mob shows! Just don't take it too seriously.

 | delbomber (3) 03/19/2006 | Seasons 1-3...smashing, brilliant. Season 4, except for the 'Pine Barrens' episode was tedious and unfocused. Season 5 showed again why the show should have ended after the originally planned fourth season...until the final few episodes which, carrying forth two years into season 6, has returned the show to its former glory.

 | 37102002 (2) 02/18/2006 | Brilliantly written show from the very beginning. Season 2 was I think its best of the 5 seasons. Even its bad shows are better than 90% of what rolls on network TV. Probably the funniest drama ever, if that makes sense. Dont recall a show that deals with such a wide variety of relationships in such depth and detail as this one. Highly intelligent writing and directing. Gandolfini and Falco are far above average in their craft.

 | TheDesertFox (0) 07/09/2004 | The first three seasons were really strong, and a few episodes- a few- since then, have been good.
Overall, the show is losing it's appeal and heading downhill. It may have been better if they had ended it after the 5th season, because the last two seasons have not been nearly as good or exciting as the first 3.

 | ClassicTVFan47 (36) 06/28/2004 | I continue to wonder the appeal of the HBO network. Aside from the occasional good movie, their original programming contains some of the worst television shows of all time. Forget My Mother, The Car, shows like Sopranos and Sex & The City should become the butt of bad television jokes and synonmous with bad television. But, for some reason, these creatively barren shows getting glowing reviews from critics and even manage to gather a fan base! Apparently, critics like tons of mindless profanity, stupid violence, and the humanizing of criminals who kill hundreds. Not I, said the good guy.

 | spdpilot (0) 05/05/2004 | I was a huge fan of the series, I still enjoy it, but I think it is starting to go down hill. With so few episodes, to much time is wasted on story lines that go nowhere. The older shows were more complex and engaging. Tony needs a rival, like Uncle Jr., but there is no one now. Also, with the divorce of Tony, plus the kids leaving, it really takes a good element of the story line out of the series. The other family is great, but the home family really added reality to it. And they have taken much of the humor out of the series. It made it feel real when you saw Paulie, or someone make a mistake and then have to make it right. I hope they fix some of these things, and get the show back to what made it interesting. It's still a good show, and I will always be a fan. It's the only show I watch on a regular basis.

 | minkey (36) 02/18/2004 | This is the only television show I watch. I think the storyline and characters are phenomenal. I love money, women, gambling, humor, violence, and Jersey and this show has it all. It is on HBO and on late enough where you parents can quiet down a little.

 | atlsheriff (0) 11/26/2003 | This show contributes to the problems that we are facing with our children. Parents that watch this show and actually like it has no future for their children. The show is about everything that a parent should be teaching what is wrong. we only have 1 chance to raise our kids and this show should be taken off the air. HBO is making the mobster life like it is something good. The only fans that watch, envy the life of a unfaithful liar that sets bad example of a Father and Husband.
This show also has followers of the following TERRIBLE shows The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead and the Ozborns.
Oh, did I mention the really bad acting of the Sopranos cast.

 | Vanilla_Tiger (0) 08/19/2003 | I was never an avid watcher to begin with but now I'm hooked. I don't believe this show was created to show the life of the average Italian-American (as Voter2004 is convinced) I think it is a good piece of raw drama that just so happens to deal with "the mob"....a term I think more than one ethnic group uses. I definately agree with BillyD.....reality shows like Temptation island should be frowned apon.....it's a pathetic excuse for couples to cheat on one another. I'm not Italian-American...and I'm not American either......seeing this show.....the last thing running through my mind was whether or not real Italian Americans were like this.....in fact in wasn't in my mind at all.

 | gloriaehrlich (0) 03/14/2003 | Soprano's has a very tough challenge, to take the old world style mafia, the mafia language and codes of bahavior, and bring up to date to 30 or 40 years later. The times have changed, the attitudes have changed, but Tony Soprano, still stays the same. His do as I say, don't do as I do attitude are writter all over this psyhotic over the top husband and father. Whats strange is that most true Italian families, don't believe in a theratpist, in old world italian families, a saint,or priest was all that was needed to console a troubled mind. But, were talking todays Italian, most are getting fine educations, it is not the Italian style mafia of when I was growing up. Edie Falco's character is excellent as playing the ruefull wife of Tonly, she knows damn well that Tony is unfaithful, but she reacts to his authority. It's not about his politics, it's about the man he exudes himself to be. He is a mafia boss, with other characters like "Uncle Joe"
"Paulie", he has the authority and he's going to make sure everybody understands whose the boss.
His real rears are amock with pathose of people in his life that he cannot forgive or forget. He is highly delusional, and has enough doubts to last him a life time, but he is not in right mind to admit it. Edie Falco is good at playing his sultry wife, she never goes over the edge. That is good for viewers, because once she does that she'd lose her edge. The rest of the show is a macabre reminder, that gangsters don't play fair. The gangsters involved have made boo-boo's and thier going to pay the price. Somebody has to keep the family in line. It looks like HBO got a winning combination with James Goldofini, and Edie Falco and the rest of the cast.
For critics, remember this is just a show, for the mafia wannabees, just hang out on the piers long enough and look at he wather, picture the whole thing, at first what it means to be a made man, for this I am afraid you have to go back to mafia 101, and look at Don Corleone's image. Do you fit that image? IF so, go ahead and try, remember what the God Father says, going in to episode 2 of T.G.F, once frugs and prostitution are involved were not talking about mafia anymore. I hope you don't wear size 9's cause those are the easiest to fill with cement.
Be Wise
Not a Wise Guy

 | Keetsula (0) 03/14/2003 | The Sopranos is a reality check about modern-day organized crime. The actors are all superb and the writing is top-notch. This drama draws out the best and worst in human behavior, a struggle between man and man's cruelty to humanity. The Soprano family life is atypical of today's family nucleus. A spoiled daughter, a son who fails to meet his father's expectations, a wife who strokes the homefires, while her husband flits from bed to bed, a sorry example of fidelity. The two faces of Tony is what makes the show a must-see. First, we empathize with the hopelessly depressed and teary kingpin/husband, then we see him murder a man in cold blood without blinking an eye. This show has it all: flashes of viciousness and jealousy, a on-going conflict between the members of the Soprano families, those who were trusted then dare to betray him, and a dash of comedy.

 | kelly7655 (0) 12/01/2002 | I didn't start watching the Sopranos until the second season. I heard a lot of people rave about it, so I had to start watching. I am now tuned in every Sunday evening. I am a fan of James Gandolfini (I first saw him in the movie "Angie"), he is an excellent actor, who deserves much credit. I also like Lorraine Bracco (her acting in Goodfellas was outstanding). The variety of drama in any given episode makes the Sopranos addictive. I think the majority of Americans (including myself) do not link Italian Americans to the mafia or see them as gangsters (in response to a comment I read). I simply see the Sopranos as the ups and downs of a high class Italian American family. I enjoy the show because of the excellent actors/actresses, and the storylines. A denfinite ten.
