Its a lot more lame without Richard Dean Anderson

Well I liked the movie, but this is becoming too much of a good thing. How many times can you go through that gate and find something different?

I believe that Stargate SG-1 is one of, if not the best Science Fiction show of all time.  I think the interaction between the characters is great and very believable.  The storylines fit very well into the main theme of the show.  I know that others will disagree with me and say shows such as Star Trek:  TNG or Battlestar Galactica.  These are great shows in their own right, but Stargate SG-1 seems to be the most original.

I thought the show was great before they changed the cast, original sg1 team was the best!!!

Worth watching just to look at Amanda Tapping

Initially it took me a while to get into this show...but once I was into it I was hooked for good. Granted it is an over the top premise...Earthlings becoming the key to saving the entire galaxy from a parasitic alien power...but the chemistry amongst the actors involved, and Richard Dean Anderson's biting sarcasm and gentle jabs at other classic Sci-fi shows...more than make up for it. This is a show that potentially has something for everyone...action...comedy...and even a little sexual tension on occasion. It's refreshing to see a cast that actually seems to enjoy their work (although Anderson has I think grown a little weary of the role over the years as can be seen by his often reduced role in many of the episodes). It's also amazing to see that the quality of the shows haven't noticably declined given its lengthy run. Oh, and as for Richard Dean Anderson...I never got the whole appeal of MacGyver...but this role has made me appreciate him a lot more.

Funny how everyone keeps saying Stargate can't compete with Star Trek, or Farscape ect, but yet it's been on the air for nine years now, much longer than either other show. You may not like it, but either the producers were much smarter or Stargate has a much more loyal base of fans.

Based on the movie this a very good sci-fi show, and believe me they are few and far between. The writing is great and the cast is wonderful. The writers keep coming up with new angles but the show sticks with original story and keeps developing.

My favorite sci fi show. I'm a Star Trek fan from way back. This is the Star Trek of the current generation. Great writing, acting. The character interaction is fun and real.

I'm afraid I never got into the whole Stargate SG-1 thing. The acting and effects were always sort of cheesy and over the top for me.

I recently (just about a year ago) discovered Stargate and it has since grown on me, to the point where I'm actually considering paying $30 more a month for cable, *just* so I can see seasons 8 and 9. The writing on this show is wonderful. The writing is exciting. The writing pays attention to continuity. The writing is complex, full of simultaneous plot arcs that often intertwine and/or build up over the course of a season - or four. The writing is full of ethical dilemmas that have no concrete right or wrong answer. Best of all, the writing and acting give us a wonderful group of 3-D characters that defy stereotypes and have a terrific chemistry with each other. I haven't loved another show this much since Buffy, and before that, since ST:TNG. (Incidentally, I'm rather surprised to see all of the comparisons between Stargate and Star Trek. I enjoy both shows - but in my mind, they have the word, Star, in common, and that's about it.)

Movie was better. Watching grass grow is better.

I love this show to no end.. :) Its funny, smart, creative and I personally think that they don't overdue the scifi of it.. They often make fun at it.. (In a good way)

I was resistant at first to even give this show a try. In fact here it is in it's 8th season and I'm just now watching it. I bought all six seasons od DVDs released so far. First let me say that I have been a huge Star Trek all my life since the first episode aired in 1966. I have enjoyed all the incarnations and juts love the show. Stargate SG-1 has really replaced Star Trek for me. It has the spirit of classic Trek with the cool effects of the latest Trek. If you have never watched this show give it a try. Watch at least 10 epsiodes and you will be hooked!

I agree with what elloco00 said this show is great. But if anyone has any inside information of how they will bring back O'Neal please hook it me up with the information. I know Atlantis will be an even greater success.

Most of the time it is a good show! I wish they would lay off the social engineering and focus on good stories!

Best show ever, i literally watch it hours on end when they have those four shows in a row on fridays. I can't wait for the new series Atlantis and see how they bring back o'neal, and i can't wait 2 see how the mystery with the ancients is presented...

There are a lot of 1 and 5 star ratings for this, I notice, but I give it 4 stars because the storyline is always varied, there are good actors in it and most episodes are in quality rather than quantity but SG-1 always happen to be fighting the Gwoll and don't seem to have any other enemy. Overall, a good show with few critisims on my part.

Excellent sci fi. Though sci fi term should be used lightly even though they do have space storylines there is a sort of fantasy/comedy. If you can call RDA'S One line quips funny. I find Michael Shanks character funny and talented a pleasure to watch.

Love this show! One of the best Sci fi shows I've seen! Richard Dean Anderson's cocky humor keeps a smile on your face. Amanda Tapping is the best in my opinion also as others have said. The show is still imaginative. Have yet to get bored.

Great characters, great sci-fi, but I miss Jonas Quinn & couldn't care less about the return of Daniel Jackson. Give me more Sam & Jack!

Superb series. Fantastic acting by the main cast, especially series star Richard Dean Anderson as Colonel Jack O'Neill, and by Amanda Tapping as Major Sam Carter. Wonderful plots and story arcs. Superb special effects. Lovely music. First rate entertainment.

The greatest show of all times.

It's taken me six years to watch an episode of this show. Now I'm addicted.

Love the interaction of the characters and the relationships that are forming.

This is a mockery to the very good Movie. It is McGuiver in space, the same boreing dialog. The commercial drew me in but I was extremly dissapointed when the show did nothing! Why SciFi wastes its money on this to be in prime Time Friday Night I won't ever understand. There are many other shows that are much much better to air at this time.

Another Boring Show

Stargate SG-1 is one of my favourite shows because of it's creativity and uniqueness. There is no other show on TV like it, in my opinion. I have been a dedicated fan for over two years and I have seen almost every episode. I agree with KatieClare that Amanda Tapping is the star of the show, heh. Overall, this show stands out to me because of its fantasy appeal (wouldn't you like to travel to other planets and save the world?!) and its realistic outcomes. I say that because sometimes SG-1 really screws up a planet and kills an entire civilization! That adds variety and suspense as one is watching the show. Stargate SG-1 is highly underrated, I think more people should give it a try before snubbing it as just another sci-fi show, as it is truly unique.

Dull, boring, and worthless drama series that means well...but falls flat on it's face.

A good show with a little bit of everything. Adventure, romance, mythology. If only it were on a channel where more people could watch it.

I've been watching this show since its second season and have been pretty impressed by it. I have to say that Amanda Tapping is a fabulous actress and deserves more recognition! Everyone focusses on Richard Dean Anderson because of his well known past on television, but Ms Tapping is the real star of this show!

What can I say this is another good show I would love to be able to Travell between worlds.

Good science fiction stories and excellent production values. Characters are compelling and believeable. I look forward to each episode.

Not bad. A little hard to get into when you don't watch every episode, but some are mesmerizing.

MacGyver or no MacGyver, this is a wonderful show!! (Psst! He even makes fun of MacGyver in the first episode) I found it MUCH more entertaining than the original movie and THAT was very well done. The cast does a wonderful job, each story line is unique and leaves you looking forward to the next episode. A great mix of military, alien, action, drama, romance, and continuing saga!

Selma and patty Beauvier may love this show because MacGyver is in it - but not me. There is not a lot of merit to the show - I am not a huge sci-fi fan, but I am not so sure this would even interest fans of that genre.
