AMC basically sucks they used to be good years ago like tmc , but they want to be a PG channel showing R movies and they cut it up so bad it makes you mad. For instance in karate kid when they are walking back from the beach to the car they completely cut out out the scene with miagi chopping the beer bottles, but leave in the tongue in the throat kissing scene at the park. I wont even tape off that channel because of their methods.

I used to get AMC when I had cable. I really enjoyed it while I had it. Now I have a satellite, so I have to take the stations that I have, which I'm ok with.

commercials... commercials... commercials; AMC will take a 130 minute movie and spread it over 3 frustrating hours... just expect 5 min of commercials (and Mad Men hype)every 10 minutes... better off using netflix

AMC used to be better than they are not. In the "good old days" they showed true classic films. Now they have modernized themselves and while they still show the occasional bonafide classic, it is mainly fluff they show these days.

AMC is garbage now. Occasionally, I find a great movie (like "The King and I") but I change channels as soon as a commercial hits and never go back, or just shut off the TV altogether. TCM has all my attention now; it's THE best and really takes advantage of its great library of Warner Brothers, RKO and the original MGM, as well as licensed films from Paramount, Universal, MGM (little more than the name whose classic library now consists of United Artists), Columbia, 20th Century-Fox and, most recently, Disney and Touchstone. (The widescreen version TV debut broadcasts of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" aired on TCM last month.) With the combination of many great classics, some early turkeys (let's face it, without the turkeys there can be no classics)a great study for the historian and a full range of entertainment for the average viewer. AMC has nothing to offer anymore. The occasional great film is made mediocre by the cheap promos, commercials, credit-crunching and dreadful-quality prints. Since it's still owned by Cablevision, it manifests the quality and personality of James Dolan. That speaks volumes right there: to the devil with the viewers and quality of the service and go for the cheap buck. To my carrier Time Warner Cable: Please shoot the dying horse that is AMC and put it out of OUR misery. To Cablevision customers: Sorry; you're stuck with it.

Remember when TVLAND first started? Hardly any commercials and when they did show commercials they were the retromercials from the 50's 60's and 70's. They would show at least 6 within an hour. Eventually the retromercials dwindled, now your lucky if you see one a day and now it's totally like watching regular tv, chock full of commercials. Well I'm sorry to see that AMC has gone that route. Instead of true classic movies from the 30's 40's and 50's, we get Smokey And The Bandit II? Give me a break. Sorry AMC, but when I want true "classic" movies I turn to Turner Classic Movies!

This channel shows "Classics" from a few years ago that were universally panned by critics and audiences alike. If that weren't bad enough, it has commercials. Basically its a bad version of "Encore" with commercials. I remember when it was like Turner Classic.

It used to be a great channel, way back when, but now it's loaded, and I do mean LOADED, with commercials. Also, the quality of the movies they show has declined markedly. Like Bravo, which also was once a great channel, this one is virtually unwatchable now. TCM (Turner Classic Movies) is still a great channel, but give it time...I'm sure it's destined to go down the same depressing, commercial-laden road.

Like everyone else has said, this channel is horribel now. The channel is called American Movie CLASSICS. Movies like Smokey and the Bandit II and Death Wish IV are not classsics. I gave it two stars instead of one because it does occasinally play Apocalypse Now, which shows they have some good taste left over from when they were good.

What a shame to see a channel fall so low. They will never regain their footing. It should just be taken off cable and satellite and go away into the abyss.

I agree with MissPackRat here--this channel is quite disappointing now, playing films which are generally a couple of decades old and somewhere in the middle to low part of the quality spectrum. I miss when they played CLASSIC films.

I liked AMC much better a few years ago when it played more of the moldy oldies from the '30s and '40s (and occasionally a few silent gems starring comic geniuses like Chaplin and Keaton). Plus, they would often put in some old newsreels and vintage intermissions to enhance the nostalgic atmosphere, and had a bigger variety. AMC still shows a fairly good flick once in a while, but it is certainly a far cry from what it used to be. In order to once again live up to its title American Movie Classics, it needs to return back to the old format -- showing movies which were truly considered classics.

In a way AMC's decline is due to circumstances beyond its control. When Turner Broadcasting merged with Time Warner, they were able to get the rights to the majority of classic films that AMC had in its library. Thus overnight, AMC's programming was decimated and it had to go with more recent, low quality films to stay afloat. Even so, AMC didn't help its cause by adding commercials and probably alienated the few viewers they had left by doing that. I haven't watched the new AMC and neither has anyone else I know. They fought the good fight, but maybe AMC should just admit defeat and go off the air.

What used to be one of my fav channels has turned into CRAP! Too many commercials --- if I wanted that I'd watch the cut up versions of films on the network channels. And the movies are no longer classics but stuff I could easily buy in the bargin bin at the video store. What corporation bought this once great channel?

AMC has sold out. I am sickened and disgusted by its new line-up because all the advertisements rupture the true essence of how film is supposed to be enjoyed. Unfortunately, when the channel started out, it meant to have its viewers learn about the film industry and the directors, if not the stars. Now, it is nothing but a low-rate independent channel (you know the ones--the channels that air cheap, bad films that don't even fall into the camp territory). I am sad to see AMC to go this way. I hope that there is a petition or a campaign that lets the channel know what a crock and rip off it is becoming. For God's sake--it used TO SHOW GILDA AND LAURA!!!!

With commercials every ten minutes, watching AMC is an exercise in movie torture. I have Dish Network and can see what they will be showing for the next 8 days. If I see a movie listed that I may want to watch, I will put it into my search function and wait for it to come up on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) instead. I'd much rather watch letterboxed and uninterrupted CLASSIC movies, than the tripe showing on AMC these days. I feel it is time AMC is removed from the airwaves.

It's just been in the last year or so that I've really gotten into the old movies, mostly because I discovered Turner Classic Movies, which has quickly become favorite network. I understand that AMC used to be good as well, though I never actually watched them in their heyday. That's probably a good thing, because I think I'd be really upset if I'd had to watch the transition from the old AMC to the new AMC with all the crappy non-classic movies, tons of commercials, no letterboxing, the garish graphics, and--worst of all--the irritating "movie people" interrupting the films every 10 minutes to make lame and pointless comments. I HATE the movie people! I don't care about their stupid paid opinions. I just want to watch a movie without interruptions. I'm sure AMC thinks they're appealing to a younger demographic by dumbing down their content, but I'm 23 and I'm offended by AMC's total lack of respect for the films they show and for their audience. I will not be tuning in to AMC again.

In recent months, AMC has definitely gone down hill as a movie channel. I expect to watch a classic movie or short film, but no they have given up on all of that and in return we get movies that have appeared on many other cable channels. They still show old movies a few times, but are not enough to satisfy the viewers. Not only they are nolonger a classic movie channel, but they even show more commercials than usual. AMC might as well change their name to something like "Commercial Movie Channel" or "Recent Movie Channel".

AMC Whaa Happa ????? Did you forget about the Movie Classics part fo your logo? You used to be right up there in My favorite channel list, sorry to say now your channel is in My sh.t list. Why do you feel the need for that irritating logo box in the lower right of My screen. I KNOW I AM TUNED TO AMC, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMIND ME! Where are the classics? Robo Cop a classic? your yanking My chain, right? And how many times is it going to be on this week? four or five hundred? And how many commercials are you opting to air in a two hour movie? Fifty?, Seventy Five? And that idiotic "What I think a movie should be" bull you feel you have to show every five minutes. Cut the cr&p, I allready now what a movie should be, obviously you do'nt. Get your head out of your well "You Know" AMC Another Monotonous Channel.. I to will no longer tune to this channel.

I used to love this channel, but now it gets a rating of 0 from me. I cannot believe that a once great channel has fallen this far. One commercial per movie was bad enough, but now there are many commercial breaks throughout a film. This to me is obscene. No longer are most of their movies classics. AMC should stand for American Movie Crap. I will no longer tune to this channel.

It has been a very long time since i stopped watching network t.v.due to trashy programming & trashy commercials. Had been so glad to have good, OLD movies to watch. Who decided to change things at AMC? Seems to me, they need a different decision-maker! They do not understand that they WERE an alternative, but no longer are. Keep the classics, CLASSIC! Let them make a new channel to air their so-called new "classics" and b-grade monster fests! They just don't make 'em like they used to! You can find more romance in one scene of many old movies, than can be found in the whole of most new movies! And what dialog! Love the way old movie characters could give an insult without insulting MY ears with cursing & such. You could even find adult material in old movies, Things adults would understand, but children did not. They understood the meaning of being "subtle"! Today, everything is in your face. AMC, don't call yourself classic, when you no longer are! Count me among your FORMER viewers!

The changes that have taken place at AMC recently seem to be a result of Turner's monopoly on the best movie vaults. Whatever the reason, it should no longer be called AMC (American Movie Classics). I guess they are going the way of the old Kentucky Fried Chicken which changed it's name to detract from their "fried" image which became a no-no in the health conscious lat 20th century. Follow the Turner brick road for the real classics, letterboxed, silent and wonderful. :(

AMC used to be a channel that showed movies commercial-free. Then they became a channel that showed commercials between movies, I could live with that. Then they started with that ceaseless cyclops logo staring at me in the corner of my screen every single second, never blinking for even a moment. (It was Disney that started that crap, by the way.) Then they started showing commercials in the MIDDLE of the movie. Now, we have the “new” AMC which spams the viewer every 20 minutes with not only commercials, but all those gratuitous, headache-inducing flashy graphics. I used to love AMC. There was almost always something on worth taping. Now, not only is AMC not worth taping, it’s not even worth VIEWING. It’s become just another commercial network. If I want spam, I can watch TNT. I suppose pretty soon we’ll be seeing “infomercials”. Sorry guys... but I can live without the “new” AMC. Quite easily, thank you very much.

AMC used to stand for "Classics", now it's just "Commercials and Crap". This once great station is now just a sell out and the movies shown can be seen on many other cable stations. It is a waste of channel space and I suggest that others who feel the sorrow of the death of the orginal AMC protest to their local cable companies. Request that AMC be removed from the channel lineup. Maybe the morons who are in charge of running and ruining AMC will get the message. Just because the audiance used to consist of viewers ages 35 and up, was no reason to destroy something great and turn it into something less than mediocore. Let's work together to get our classics back, or we will work together to lose the crap.

AMC has turned into a major joke and a waste of a cable channel. At one time there were classics, non-classics, lost films, even silent films. But something happened and they've seemed determined to do everything in their power to destroy themselves. 1: They show the same movies over and over and over (True Grit, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Guess Who's Coming To Dinner are the most shown.) 2: They absolutly refuse to show a film in letterbox format. 3: and worst of all. They now break into every movie with commercials! They call it an intermission but we know better! For a real movie channel skip AMC and go to TCM (Turner Classic Movies) Now there is a class act. Is there a lower score than 1 I can give to AMC?

There was a time when I'd have been much more generous with the stars here. I can actually remember being thrilled way back when the local cable company added this channel to their lineup. But in the past few years, AMC has let me down. They've apparently abandoned their original idea to carry what are considered by most to be actual classics in favor of westerns, the Three Stooges, and similar not-so-great selections. Not that it wouldn't be okay with me to run these occasionally (preferably at around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday nights) but somebody at AMC is obviously a little obsessive-compulsive about them. I agree with 'bluecookie' - bring back the true classics of the '30's and '40's. It's time to give the knuckleheads and cow pokes some time off.

AMC is a TV channel that often is passed over by most viewers. However, this channel hosts many of the classics movies which have shaped our lives throughout time. I remember some wonderful moments shared with my mother on a rainy day, curled up on the couch watching movies like Pillow Talk, the African Queen, or the Seven Year Itch.
