kidicarus333 08/02/2008
Quality shows that are down to earth, scientific, informative and entertaining, and free from bias.
buntcake 07/13/2008
I like nova, frontline and nature, and shows like that, and also that travelling show where they go to places around the world.. educational for anyone but also entertaining, you cant find that on the other channels!. but most of the time those programs arent on and its mostly just some boring news or local or kiddie shows like teletubbies... i miss magic schoolbus that was a sweet show.
missbeckel 01/17/2008
i liked pbs for a long time untill my favorite programs like Ghostwriter and Wishbone were cancelled.

PBS has provided me with education from the time I was barely tall enough to reach the power button on my TV until now. Still has some of the best kids programming during the morning and afternoon, plus Nova and other good shows for my grown up geek brain. Some of the news programming has a decided slant to it (when does news not have spin), preventing a 5-star rating.

Drop the federal subsidy. It should sink or swim on its own. I get more and more tired of the bloated self importance of this gaggle of mopes.

Ive Got Good News! Sometimes it can be frustrating searching for safe childrens media. Well Ive got news for you! What a breath of fresh air it was to check out PBS Kids website (www.pbskids.org). Firstly, I want to tell you all how much I loved this website. I am not a mother myself but I empathies with those who are and want their children to be positively effected by media. This website is children and parent friendly. There are many components to this website but each component is very simple to understand and utilize. This is a very interactive site that children, teachers, and parents would love. When you first visit the website you can only notice the bright colors that release a positive reaction, a sense of happiness. A Wheel of activities and programs that PBS offers with pleasant sound effects that complement. On the wheel are pictures of the shows characters that you can click on and check out information about the shows, games, educational activities, and much more. Many of the shows that PBS offers cover a wide rage of diverse backgrounds, age, gender, and animated characters that children can identify with. Education is something that I find very important, especially when it comes to children. Much of what media is offering currently is anything but educational. The PBS website is a very educational website for children to discovery the many fun ways of learning. There are portions of the site that offer music, games, and coloring. There are also areas of the website that parents and educators can get information about the goals of PBS and helpful tips on educating children. What I found most interesting about the site was in the music category. It offered music with an educational twist. There were songs about the alphabet, numbers, words, animals, shapes, and storytelling. This not only captures childrens attention with music but I feel it is an effective way for children to learn in and out of school. If I were to grade this website on its effectiveness, entertainment, interactions, and educational content I would have to give it an A. I was child that grew up watching PBS and I feel that PBS is still doing a great job with providing educational outlets for children, parents and teachers. styleit101

I do watch Antiques Roadshow on PBS; proves to be very interesting and educational.
XAgent 05/08/2007
Highly educational, except during donation week.

Quit taking my tax money for your retarded hippie crap. Anything on here you can get on Basic and Cable.
BB2004 11/12/2006
Once in a while they show something interesting.
CloudTen 11/10/2006
When they have their telethons, sometimes you get a really special show. It's rare to find good things to watch the rest of the year.
Djahuti 03/24/2006
Usually has shows geared towards more intelligent viewers than most public and cable channels.Of course, there's also plenty of stuff for the kids, also often educational in nature. They offer fine programs on history, science and fine arts as well as broadcasting concerts and theater.I've seen quite a few great shows on PBS over the years, and one of the best (for me,anyway) was the Ken Burns documentary series on the History of Jazz. That's the first time I was "glued to the set" in about 20 years!
Drummond 12/28/2005
Great thing is, I don't need cable or satellite.
worldcitizen18 44 12/26/2005
PBS is top quality all the way. I have been a fan for many years!! The only thing I would change is to have play some of the top-notch pledge programming at non-pledge time but I understand why they do it that way. The nations's children will be in horrible shape if their children's programming ever goes away. I find that most other "children's programming" is anything but. As far as I am concerned most cartoons are extremely violent.
LeftyLucy 12/06/2005
Our television rarely leaves PBS. We're so sick of junk TV.
sfalconer 12/06/2005
The difference between the PBS and other channels is that PBS has to get buy on what the goverment kicks down and donations from viewers. I can only imagine that with all the disasters in the last year its getting pretty hard for these stations to get funds from the public but some how they keep going. I can not say I watch it a lot but you do find programing on PBS that you will not find any where else.
caligula 10/12/2005
NOVA, Newshour, Frontline and the kids shows make this worth watching. Does it really need government funding? If the FOODnetwork can make a go at it, I think PBS's top shows could easily muster a market.
James76255 06/07/2005
Wonderful for kids, horrible for adults. The PBS station I get had pretty good British comedies at one time (Only Fools and Horses, Open All Hours, Fawlty Towers, and the first to run Monty Python in America). Now, not so much.
clownmaster44 04/12/2005
yawn yawn zzzzz this channel is soo boring and dull who whants to wach history crap. i would go back to school if i wabted to wach that crap and whats up with all those kids shows? i thougt this was suppose to be a more mature channel. dont wach this channel by all means its a snooze fest

Newshour, Washington Week, McGlaughlin Group, Charlie Rose, etc all great shows. Also Nightly Business Report is good informative viewing. Still mostly commercial free thanks to you and me :-)
X Factor Z 03/26/2005
The only time they have anything on is when they are raising funds.
midwesterner19 02/04/2005
Underrated. PBS has excellent programming. Lehrer report is very interesting and isnt as partisan as other news programs. Frontline and NOW are first-class programs.

Becoming a right wing noise machine with Tucker Carlson and Paul Gigot.
VisionDude8 11/12/2004
While the moral content is good and the lack of commercials is nice for the viewer, there aren't enough shows with hype that are relatively popular. Also, the kids' shows aren't as good as they used to be 10 years ago.
tdubya71 07/25/2004
Good educational shows and some good shows that are not on commercial TV. In Nebraska PBS also has high-school championships and some of the minor college sports. The bad: there are a few unabashedly left-wing shows and some are so far left they make Ted Kennedy look like Rush Limbaugh.
Dwayne Brazil 05/30/2004
Needs more British Shows and antique shows, also PBS needs to be more like it was 18 years ago.
VinnyIN 05/17/2004
I usually watch PBS for shows like MotorWeek and Ask This Old House. I love that there are no commercials during programs, but I really hate it when the end of the month comes and the station is begging for money (supported by viewers like you), which seems to cancel out any programs on those days.
compsltns 04/25/2004
Real news and insight minus hype. Always fair and balanced. Also, one of the few places that honors our soldiers with a picture and a moment of silence for each and every one as they are confirmed killed. If you want flashy graphics for minds with short attention spans do not tune into this channel. If you want real news with in depth discussion and analysis of issues this is your channel. The specials are also informative. I can live without the road show.
Anonymous 01/19/2004
PBS is the only channel with anything decent on, including really interesting NOVA programs. They also used to have no commercials. They do now, but it was good while it lasted.
mikeholly93 12/08/2003
PBS rules! This is the only regular channel that shows great educational shows such as NOVA, Nature, and many others. Also, they have great educational shows for our children such as Sesame Street, Mister Roger's neighborhood, and Barney. If teenagers watch more educational science and history shows on PBS as well as National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel, Learning Channel Science Channel, and History Channel and less MTV, they will grow more brain cells and become much more smarter!
mykitties 11/22/2003
Mostly wonderful programs, with a few clunkers thrown in.
jamie007 11/03/2003
at least pbs shows eastenders
LondonJules 11/02/2003
My local PBS station at least gives us a chance to support our beloved 4 year old episodes of EastEnders which is more than I can say for the other crap so called channel for British programming.
traveltutor 10/30/2003
My local PBS stations, WETA and WMPT, offer excellent programming. They combine the best of quality British programming (unlike BBC America) with the best of quality American programming. It is amazing that only the non commercial channels are able to uphold a standard of consistent quality programming. Shame on corporate America!
canny_savvy 10/29/2003
Another place where I can find some great BBC productions. Their documentaries are always interesting. I can view things on this channel that I can't get anywhere else.
feline01 10/29/2003
Excellent variety of programming.
MBHfromla 10/10/2003
America's Best TV Station, I used to hate it the 1980's when there used to be those scary Television Station Corporate Logos that would pop up at the start of a show and at the end (like the WGBH logo in boston with the gawdy graphics, and weird music) They still have it, and it still creeps me out.
Rusty 07/24/2003
This is one of the better TV channels out there. You actually learn something new every time you watch it. In the span of two days I have watched a group of archaeologists and several volunteers re-create live in an Iron Age English settlement, the AIDS epidemic in Angola, consumerism opening up in China, and Charlie Rose. Very engaging and refreshing.
twinmom101 04/25/2003
Watching Frontline is downright addictive. Between this, the News Hour with Jim Leher and Nova, I can get almost as much information as I would have reading the entire front section of the NY Times. Seriously underutilized, underrated and excellent at reavealing world poitics.
Jason1972 01/23/2003
A channel that will always be underrated. They have very good shows. Who could ever forget Ken Burns' award winning documentaries, "Baseball", and "Civil War". And last year they had a reality series that had modern day families living on the frontier, now that's brilliant reality programming! Not "The Bachelor" or "Survivor".
Truemyth 01/05/2003
PBS is great. It truely listens to its' audiance and produces great programs that entertain and inform. I particularly love Mystery! and the British Comedy night.
CanadaSucks 12/08/2002
Terrific documentaries about Jazz, science, history and other things usually too complicated for the average television viewer fascinated by silly reality shows and people eating worms and bugs on dares. PBS is better than ever. . .although it is depressing when they have their pledge drives. . .educated people begging for money is always depressing. (Reminds me of grad school.)
norelle 04/03/2002
my little brother watches some of those shows but they are very annoying whith those stupid songs
Snoopy 12/14/2001
Good programming for kids. I also used to love watching Julia Child as a kid, along with Sesame Street and Mr Rogers. I don't really care for the British programs though, especially that Keeping Up Appearances. Ugh!!!
Galomorro 11/20/2001
I'd like it more if they'd cut out the pledge breaks and kiddie shows...
jeffrey715 07/09/2001
Can't they come up with better shows? All they have is kiddie shows.
callmetootie 04/04/2001
Bring back Mr. Rogers!
