Food Network offers a lot of informative programming, as well, which are also entertaining, such as "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives", "Good Eats", "Unwrapped", and "Food Detectives", as well as the regular cooking programs with Rachael Ray and Sunny Anderson.

There needs to be more practical shows like Paula Deen, Alton Brown and the Neely's . They make real world type foods that women are interested in after work. Far Too much Iron Chef especially in the evening hours when you just want something practical to cook.

I love cooking shows, but Food Network is all about celebrity personality. I used to think Rachael Ray was the worst with her lame made-up words and neurotic tendency to laugh after everything she says, but I can actually sit through one of her shows and, yes, I have picked up a few quick-cooking tips (but rarely ever a whole recipe....she's too expensive). Now I would have to rate Paula Deen as the biggest FN loser. I recently saw her on Iron Chef (brief check-in) and she acted like a complete ass! And she was making chocolate truffles out of processed cheese--disgusting! Her sons are flat, brainless losers and I hate it when she brings her fat husband on her show to taste stuff--gross! Can't sit through one of her shows because she's so obnoxious. I love butter, and am a firm believer that fat is flavor, so it's not that her recipes are unhealthy...it's her dishes and mannerisms are just plain BAD. (FN had some commercial snippet of her flipping out at someone: "WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG?" I think it was supposed to show what a no-nonsense lady she is...it just scared the crap out of me.) Speaking of "fat," I would say I miss mario but he's gotten so red-faced and huge, he's a cardiac attack waiting to happen. It's something I wouldn't want to witness. So, bring on Lydia Bastianich (sans her son), Jacques Pepin, and Julia Child (repeats)! Those are the real cooking shows that are fun, informative, and entertaining without being forced (Julia was hilarious without trying).

I actually love any kind of cooking show, as long as it doesn't involve seafood or certain kinds of vegetables. I get bored with the same old recipes.
Dwann 05/20/2008
Good eats, DDD, Jamie Oliver, Mario Batali, Iron Chef America... All great shows
WhackoCentrist 04/18/2008
Love it - something for everyone!!!

Bobby Flay sucks, my 5 year old cant understand why or how a man can be as pompous as to challenge some one making there living cooking a specific dish and says he can cook it better. Throdown is the show this pompous fool ruins there carrier for his own advancement. It would be different if they knew he was coming but no he practices there signature dish and then shows up unanounced, here in Texas we would call that chicken sh@# but I would guess hes a huge star up north. This guy is over the top and pretty much ruined food Network for my family. Alton Brown is GREAT in everything he does, if Flay wasn't so arrogant he could learn a few things from Brown. We LOVE ALTON BROWN, bobby flay is an ass!!!
suitor 07/28/2007
I would like to see Giada De Laurentiis cook top less, in a pair of real skimmpy panties. That would be appetizing. Otherwise I love the Food Network.
PixarFan2007 05/10/2007
Other than Unwrapped and The Secret Life of..., I don't watch this channel very much. Rachael Ray is okay, but she can bee too perky.
withit03 11/16/2006
I love the Food Network, but could do without all the sugar battles and such on prime time. I'd rather see the actual cooking shows. Favorites: Tyler Florence, Alton Brown, Iron Chef America, Rachael Ray, Michael Chiarello What happened to Jamie Oliver? Ming Tsai? I'd also love to see some of the PBS favorites here.
Momsandpopscal lmeJoe 11/11/2006
I watch this channel a lot. I like watchin' it while Im eatin' my moms cookin' cause my moms cookin' is better than the chefs. My dad says, "She missed up a perfectly good meal when she added that leaf. Who wants a leaf on a desert??" I agree with my old man, but there are some good cooks on the network. Emeril is my favorite. He does the leaf thingy too but a lot of his dishes look great!! However that Iron Chef show is a joke LOL. Those guys take the competion way too seriously and has anyone heard the host of the show?? Leeetts Beggiiinn!! I like, mayne its a food competion it aint a UFC fight or something. And the judges on that show are stuck up. I have never seen such awful food creations in my life. A lady contestant made some ice cream with sprinkled bacon bits. I was like WTF!?? The Food Network also describes the origins of different foods which is a good thing cause' I like knowin' where' foods come from.

Foodnetwork channel is great, it's the website that needs MAJOR improvement. It is slow to load (I have Comcast broadband) and the recipes often display "Page Not Found" like it does at this very moment. They really need to work on the reliability of the site.
Chalky 03/24/2006
the new marc summers! awesome, totally awesome
samjung23 03/23/2006
I used to like this channel, but man has it gone down in the past couple of years. I notice that it's starting to gradually get more yuppified and effeminate. A lot of the chefs that are getting shows now seem to be either connected or devoid of a likeable personality. The only ones I like are Rachel Ray, Alton Brown and the guy from "Secret Life of..." The guy on "Ham on the Street" is totally pathetic. Alton, I had said I didn't like, but he really is a good, smart cook. The old Food Network was like whole milk and the new one is like SKIM. The worst hosts are Giada de Laurentiis, George Durhan and Mario Batali. Iron Chef America is lousy! What happened to this channel and Discovery? Really?
bersaida 12/06/2005
I love Food Network. I can't start naming everything that I have learned about food. It's a lot. Rachel Ray's recipies are practical and delicious. Also I like Paula, Everyday Italian and Barefoot Contessa. What can I tell you? I have learned from everybody something. I feel like I have my own cooking style now.
Drummond 12/02/2005
Iron Chef is fun. Most of the rest just doesn't grab me.
Gentle Jude 10/29/2005
For some reason, there aren't many cooking shows I don't like. I just like watching cooking shows. Besides, I learn new things and how to better prepare food.
Kairho 10/12/2005
Am very surprised that I watch so much on this channel. Alton Brown's Good Eats is quite entertanining as is Unwrapped. Irond Chef has its moments, too.
rjy 08/10/2005
This is one of the few networks that at least tries to stay true to its format (FOOD/COOKING) ,unlike mtv, like alot of the programs except any that has to do with Bobby Flay (excluding Iron Chef America). I'm giving it 4 star out of 5. Would of gotton 5 if not for Flay.
GenghisTheHun 06/06/2005
Good niche product
cutegurl 04/21/2005
I love the Food Network. I can watch when I do my homework and I don't really have to pay attention to know what's going on. It helps that I love food and everything about it. The Food Network Challenges are the best shows on the channel for sure. Iron Chef is cool too.
kattwoman 04/03/2005
i like numerous shows. iron chef the best. i even got my kids watching it. funny thing is i dont cook
FightingIllini 45 04/01/2005
It's okay. In 30 minute meals, who acually has all those ingredients in their cabinet and refrigerator? I know I don't. Also, who would forget about a party they are having, 30 minutes before the party starts?
laurie strode 03/30/2005
it's ok becuase it shows u how to cook.but boring
X Factor Z 03/26/2005
Excellent! i really love Unwrapped, a very interesting show.
Mooselover 03/06/2005
My refrigerator is more exciting than this.
shoeempress 01/24/2005
The only show worth watching is Good eats.
helmut 11/28/2004
Verry good. Some shows can get annoying but it gets two of the four stars just for GOOD EATS.
Mr.Political 11/19/2004
I'd watch it more often but I'd gain ten pounds just by watching a day's worth of programming.
Michael The Cook 11/06/2004
Rachael Ray has become a over saturated glamour girl on the food channel. They consantly push her shows and over advertise her so much that I can no longer just leave the channel on all the time like I used to do. I like Paula, Alton, Tyler and several others much better. If they continue going the way they are going, it'll be the Rachael Ray Channel. But I won't be watching it. I'm just saying: less would be more.
dinah 09/28/2004
unwrapped is the best show on this channel
Jamie McBain 07/26/2004
One of my roomates watch The Food Network almost every hour, every day. I like watching The Iron Chief though.
tdubya71 07/25/2004
It made Emeril overexposed. BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! What is this a cooking show or a war zone?
jakeev 07/16/2004
It's pretty sad when you spend most of your tv time watching the Food Network. But I admit, I love that place. From the cooking shows, love Paula Deen, Rachael Ray, Tyler Florence, Ina Garten, newcomer Juan Cruz and on somedays, Emeril. And Good Eats, $40-day, Food Finds are pretty exceptional themed shows. Damn, and I am hungry......hehehe
michelec 04/21/2004
I have to downgrade my initial rating from 4 stars to 2 because FN's overall programming has gone downhill in recent months. Except for Iron Chef, primetime has become a wasteland of endless reruns of Unwrapped, The Best Of, and Top 5. Then there's Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee, starring a trophy wife of a real estate tycoon who tries to be like Martha Stewart and fails miserably. My 8 year old nephew does a better job of cooking than this no-talent airhead. Only try the recipes on Ms. Lee's show if you're aiming for a trip to the ER for food poisoning. I used to watch Food Network all the time, but now I only watch when they have actual cooking shows on...which only seems to be weekend mornings.
tvtator 02/27/2004
I guess they can make a channel for anything. This channel offers a variety of cooking shows, cooking and food specials from different chefs. My favorite chefs are Jamie Oliver and Tyler Florence. I like the Unwrapped shows. Bon Appetit.
pilotman8767 08/05/2003
it just makes me hungry and i dont have the materials to make them foods. whats the use of looking at it if you cant eat it? think about it.
help me 06/18/2003
ooooo like i really care about a network showing fat old people cooking.
Jason1972 01/23/2003
I can get recipes out of my local newspaper or the internet.
Marypat 01/18/2003
I really like Food Network - esp Molto Mario, The Fat Ladies and best of all Good Eats - 30 Min Meals and $40 a Day are good shows but Rachel giggles too much and her abbreviations such as "delish" get to me. Also, too much Emeril - I like him but his Emeril Live is too loud and hyper - he's on too many times a day.
vetteman03 01/15/2003
If you wanna kick your TV up a knotch, tune into the Food Network. Awesome channel. One of the best!
wilks22 01/09/2003
I personally love that sidekick on Bobby Flay(Jacqui Malouf). I really enjoy Alton Brown, because he explains everything. I find myself watching FoodTV all the time.
Mario500 12/02/2002
If you want to learn how to cook the best in food or about it in general, Food Network is the channel to watch. There are some pretty interesting shows other than about cooking, such as Unwrapped, the show about all our favorite food and old favorites from the past. The channel recently added another quite interesting show, Top 5 which showcases the five best foods of each type.
AmazingMole 10/13/2002
My favorite shows are Unwrapped, $40 a day, Keith Famie's adventures, Food Finds, and All American Festivals. It is fun to learn about unique restraunts, exotic foods, or history behind our favorite candies. The only show that I can't watch is Emeril.
irene_lvs_ep_1 3 02/05/2002
Food Network is actually one of my favortie networks to watch cause i love to watch cooking.I love the iron chef, the naked chef, and emeril(at times)sometimes he gets boring lots of people like him and hes a greta chef no doubt but to much of emeril to me on food network sorry but the naked chef is better!
Galomorro 11/27/2001
Too much Emeril. Every time I turn it on.
Mikemenn 07/20/2001
If for nothing else, this network gets 5 stars because of Good Eats with Alton Brown. Check out my Good Eats Fan Page at http://www.GoodEatsFanPage.com
stooge 06/07/2001
This network, like all networks, has both good shows and bad shows. There is a little too much Emeril, but the naked chef is enjoyable. A really different type of game show is the Iron Chef. If you watch it long enough too learn the characters it can be addictive.
texas 05/23/2001
I used to be a big fan of the Food Network. But lately I find myself watching it less and less. The new shows with few exceptions are just plain awful. Iron Chef, couldn't even watch one show from start to finish. Bobby Flay, rude, pompous. The new Ready, Set, Cook show, what a disaster of a show now. Who is Ainsley and which hole did he crawl out of? In style with B.Smith, who is B. Smith? Calling all cooks, Gordon Elliott, and I could go on and on. I miss the old shows like Two Hot Tamalies, John Ash, Taste with David Rosengarten, Cooking Monday through Friday. Those early shows were informative and fun to watch, True cooking shows. The new above mentioned shows are short on Cooking and long on gimmicks! And why do we have Emeril Lagasse on 3/4 times a day?? And Mario Molto on his bicycle in Ialy, please spare me, if I want a lesson on the italian country side I will watch the Travel channel. I hope somebody from the Food Network will take notice, I know that I am not the only one who feels this way. I am turning the food network off and start watching some great cooking shows on my local PBS station.
Captn_Hank 05/22/2001
The Ready Set Cook show with Ainsley Harriot is the worst piece of junk on FoodTV. His show bombed, so now they want to send this show to the cellar. He is a fake!
