Bill James, the baseball guru, rates Seaver as the sixth best pitcher of all time, ahead of Gibson and Koufax. And he says that a case could be made that Seaver was the best of all time. He compiled an amazing record on bad teams.

Great pitcher, but he played for the wrong New York team. I think that no pitcher looked so perfect when he pitched. All his motion and effort seemed so controlled and focussed.

Tom was an 11-time All-Star who won 20 or more games four times. He led the National League in ERA three times, and was the Cy Young award winner in 1969, 1973, and 1875. In 1981 he reached 3,000 strikeouts and in 1985, he became the 17th pitcher to reach 300 career victories.

Tom Terrific's lifetime winning percentage was .603. The teams he played on .481. Tom Seaver pitched on some of the worst teams in MLB history and still won. He is the most underrated pitcher in history. A MOnster!!

Has sort of faded these days but was almost universally considered the best pitcher in baseball from 1969-1981. That's saying a lot. Better control than Ryan, better consistancy than Carlton. Maybe even one of the 5 best ever...

Tom Seaver of the New York Mets (1967 - 1977, 1983) and the Cincinnati Reds (1977 - 1982) was a francise power pitcher who transformed the Mets to a Lovable losers into the formidable foes. Won 311 games over 20 seasons. Set the N.L. career record for strikeouts by a RHP (3,272) and modern record for lowest ERA (2.73). Had 200 strikeouts or more 10 times N.L. record. He also fanned 19 hitters in a single game. Tom won the N.L. Rookie of the Year Award, and also won 3 Cy Young Awards. He had a no-hitter in 1978 against the Cardinals.

What a great pitcher he was. His greatest year was obviously the year he took the Mets to the World Series in 1969. His #41 jersey is retired for the Mets, without a doubt. Partnering with the other great Met pitcher Jerry Koosman also got the Mets the ring that year. I believe that he won the Cy Young award three times in his career, and was a remarkable strikeout king!
