 | VirileVagabond (32) 07/07/2006 | Any soundtrack list must start with "Saturday Night Fever" (1977) and "Grease" (1978). A double album when it was originally released on vinyl, this soundtrack includes so many classics that are still played today (e.g. "Grease," "Summer Nights," and "You're The One That I Want"). The sound of this soundtrack was a very effective merger of 1950's retro rockabilly and doo-wop with the then contemporary disco sounds (especially in the title song written by Barry Gibb). Even with these gems, my personal favorite remains the third side which was dedicated to Sha Na Na and their pure period 50's style (e.g. covers of "Blue Moon," "Hound Dog," and "Born To Hand Jive"). Throw in contributions by Frankie Valli (who sings the title song) and Frankie Avalon (i.e. "Beauty School Dropout"), and one has a undeniable winner. As other comments have noted, a few songs do not stand alone without the movie very well (e.g. "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee"), but these are the exceptions rather than the rule. The bottom line is that when the other soundtracks are being disposed of at the next garage sale, people will still be buying "Grease."

 | tatanya28 (0) 02/10/2003 | Well, I am sure I will get about 457 "not helpful" remarks, but this soundtrack is really NOT as good as all the hype it gets. The songs to me are really quite irritating. In fact, the movie itself is quite irritating. But, this is just my opinion (god forbid on an opinion site) so go ahead and say that it's not helpful when really it's just that you like it.

 | lukskywlkr. (3) 10/24/2002 | I enjoy what I call the professional songs on here like Grease, You're The One That I want, and Summer Nights. However, the ones like Beauty School Dropout and Stranded at the Drivein (Sandy) are pretty lame when just hearing them on a cd. They are fine in the movie but hearing them just by themselves they definitely lose something.

 | Potch1214 (0) 11/29/2001 | Five stars for the movie or either Broadway cast version (new or old). Just great songs with great actors and singers doing them. The movie soundtrack is the best of all three, but they are all great. "Hopelessly Devoted" is a standout. "Greased Lightning" and "Summer Loving" are great highlights as well. Just great!

 | Hayleys3 (0) 02/22/2001 | This soundtrack is the BEST!! I'm not ashamed I sing along to the songs, and always dreamed of being in a GREASE production. (one small problem, I'm not the greatest singer!) Not much Info to share, just had to leave a message letting people know if you haven't watched the movie or listened to the soundtrack, then get out there and experience a real treat of pure fun!!

 | Johnny Roulette (3) 01/07/2001 | Unlike some soundtracks, this one wouldn't be even close to bearable without the mental pictures from the movie. A great soundtrack should be able to hold up even when you haven't seen the movie. It does, however, have a very positive nostalgia effect.

 | MrsParker (0) 11/14/2000 | I like Grease because I like to sing, so Grease is good. I don't like the movie though, it's stupid. We did a part of Grease for a concert. Anyways, I like to listen to rap music because I'm black, but I love the Grease and West Side Story soundtracks better though!

 | quirky (0) 10/26/2000 | A true classic! It's a wonderful CD to play at a mailout party. Just pop it in and the whole room starts singing. You can point out the true Grease fans if they spontaneously start doing the "Grease Lightning" dance.

 | mimi (0) 10/26/2000 | Considering Grease is my favorite movie and most of the movie consisted of songs, naturally I would buy the CD and love it. Some songs were upbeat and some were slow. Contained a lot of variety.

 | dberry (0) 10/25/2000 | If you liked the movie, you'd love the soundtrack. That I did!! This classic musical gave out songs forever remembered by music lovers. John Travolta and Olivia Newton John were outstanding.

 | sailorbeck (0) 10/24/2000 | The music is excellent. You can dance to it and sing along too. Everyone I know loves this soundtrack, but I sometimes get a little sick of always hearing "Grease Lightning" or "Summer Nights." OK OK, "Beauty School Dropout" is good, but hey, I don't want to hear it all the time.

 | Angel (0) 10/12/2000 | This album is fantastic, and so what if most of the songs sound more 70's than 50's it still works really well. I love Summer Nights, The title track and Hopelessly Devoted To You. They rock!

 | aporter (0) 10/11/2000 | This movie soundtrack was great. Catchy lyrics make it interesting. The rhythms were well designed. Also, I would recommend this CD to people who like something different, but catchy. For people who like happy music.

 | SamIAm (4) 09/29/2000 | AAAAh, what fond memories I have of this soundtrack. I was a Grease fanatic from the first time I saw it (I think I was 8 and saw it in Cape Cod at the drive-in..it was a double feature along with Urban Cowboy, thus my crush on John Travolta was born). Anyway, I fondly remember putting that 8 track into the 8 track player and singing every single song at the top of my lungs. I would put on some tight fitting clothing, ask my mom for chewing gum (Sandy was chewing gum in that last scene) and strut around on the sofa (pretending I was walking through the fun house) and sing "you're the one that I want, you are the one I want ooo ooo oo."

 | alicat (3) 08/18/2000 | More than this being a classic soundtrack it brings back memories. My little sister is a Grease fanatic and I can't hear a song without thinking of her. Sandy, Together, are both great songs.
