When it's on in the office no one's allowed to bother me. (okay- that's an overstatement. . .the boss is. . .) And there's no nice way to say this- you have no taste in music if you don't own this Jazz album. People who hate jazz like this album.Who would be that dumb/ignorant to give this less than a perfect rating? KIND OF BLUE cannot possibly be lower than first, second, or third on anybody's list of greatest jazz albums of all time. Don't you remember the first time you heard the opening notes of this album? Hey, I love rock. . .but Jazz goes places that rock cannot reach. KIND OF BLUE is a great place for people to start building their CD collection of Jazz music. (Fellas- this is a great CD to have in the player when that special someone comes over when you are cooking dinner- the 'sensitive but masculine and intelligent' bs that you want to project.)

I think 'Kind of Blue' still is the best selling jazz album;it deserves to be-particularly after listening to the Grammy's-most of which was dreck.

Why isn't this #1? Still the most influential, best selling, absolutely gotta have Jazz album of all time. If you listen to this and don't like it, well, you've got a lot to learn about music, my friend.

The standard by which all others are measured. I can't believe it's so low on the list.

A pure genius. Probably the best jazz CD ever recorded. Absolutely beautiful, a work of art.

Perfection. Pure cool with gorgeous timing and poise from all concerned. Miles's playing, in particular on Blue in Green is exquisite. A true master of his instrument. THE definitive album of the 1950's.

An absolute jazz masterpiece! Miles changed jazz forever with this album (he would do it again a couple more times)! His intonation is so emotive and eloquent, and juxtaposed with Coltrane's alternately smooth and manic soloing it creates an almost mystic sound! From the delicate piano into on "So What" to the elegant modal mysticism of "Flamenco Sketches", Miles showed the merits of cool jazz as a highly expressive art form.

If you don't like or know much about jazz, but would like to indulge in a good introductory jazz record, pick this one up. Listen to it like you would any pop record- don't consider it to be dinner music, or whatever, just turn it up and get caught up in its serene splendor. "Kind of Blue" is a beautiful piece of Davis', John Coltrane's, and the rest of the musicians' hearts.

A classic! This is the one CD you MUST have in your collection!

Miles delivers his best, almost impromptu performance in this classic of the 20th century. Coltrane kicks butt.

"Kind of Blue" was the symbolic end of the hard bop era. Miles and his compatriots blow freely over a number of modal and blues-oriented themes. Coltrane's solo on "All Blues," caused me to start playing tenor saxaphone. This album turned me on to jazz.

This is the best Jazz there is, and the best there ever will be. Any time it is rainy or I am in a funky mood, I listen to kind of blue, and Miles Davis' trumpet makes everything better. This is truly inspirational.

One of the finest jazz groups ever assembled: Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderly, Wynton Kelly, and others - created order from chaos in one of jazz's finest hours. Outstanding solos from all, especially from Trane and Miles on "All Blues."

Of all the miles davis album - this is the one i would take to a desert island if i could only take one album. kind of blue is considered by the majority of jazz musicians as the finest example of jazz recorded - ever. if you do not own it - go buy it - now. jazz doesn't get any better than this. after 40 years - it is still fresh - and - unfortunetely - we have no musician of miles stature today. bill boyd - ventura - california
