Of the several collaborations between Miles and Gil Evans-this one is my favorite;my only criticism is that it isn't long enough.

Some people dont like this album. Its not 'jazz' so they say. I could care less about labels and what 'swings'. If everthing you listen to has to 'swing' then you might as well pull that trigger you have pressed so tightly against your eardrum. This album gets an A+ in my book for sure.

For an album to get such great reviews, I was dissapointed by Sketches of Spain. At times it sounds more like a fight scene out of the Batman series than jazz. But if you are a true Miles Davis nut, you should add it to your collection.

Miles was at the top of his game and branching out further from his bop roots. However, this record does not swing and is not jazz. Miles' other collaborations with Gil Evans are better. None the less, it is a must for Miles enthusiasts. If you dig the Spanish influence, try Coltrane's Ole - now that does swing!

Miles's playing on this record proves once again what a master he really is of the Trumpet. His playing on the track 'Saeta', is a sorrowful, plaintative joy. An evocation of a time past. Gil Evans compositional skills are proved once again.
