I listened to it not that long ago and was actually surprised at how well it has stood up.  It's not as much of a 60's relic as I had remembered and I was struck that the time-out-of-place Alabama Song is actually way better than I recalled.  Perhaps because it was so original it doesn't have the quaintness of some of the era's albums.

This album was a breakthrough, and not just because of the song "Break on Through (to the Other Side)".  I do think that song serves as statement of purpose for the group.  "Light My Fire" and "The End" are well-known classics.  Another song that should not be forgotten is "The Crystal Ship".

Great rock album. Originally suffered from poor recording quality. The cleaned-up version available today is very good. I saw The Doors in 1968 in an outdoor concert and they were fantastic. This was probably about the group's peak as performers.

The beginning... of  THE END  (sorry, I couldn't resist).

Personally, I like Jose Feliciano's *Light My Fire* and Nico's *The End* better than the originals, and Morrison copped out on *Alabama Song* (you should search for the far superior - and complete - Dave Van Ronk version) but no one can deny this was an awesome debut album. Four and one half stars, rounded off to five.

A music revolution! Behind summer of love and near hippies, one band went very far! Strong music, dark lyrics and a song-poem so insane for that day like The End

A great album, probably their best. I don't really listen to it anymore, as I bought it almost 20 years ago, and have heard almost every track about a billion times on the radio, when I listen to this band I'm likely to play the more obscure album tracks- but there's no denying that it's one of the best debut albums ever and enormously influential.

This first Doors album and the last Doors album with Morrison called LA WOman are the best of the band's career. The rest are kind of sketchy. The Doors were extremely original. They did not listen to most ock/pop music with the exception of Love. They were mostly jazz/blues enthusiast. Combining those influences with the amazing poetry of Jim Morrison resulted in mostly brilliance!!

One of the best from the incredible class of 1967, the Doors debut album stands as their high water mark before the group's collaborative efforts became watered down by Jim Morrison's ridiculous posing. Although I still love the Doors and their unprecidented musical stylings, much more has been made of this band than they ever deserved. The legions of youthes that have become (and continue to become) corrupted from Jim's murky alter ego (The Lizard King) makes me wonder if it was all worth while. The music lives and breathes it's own life however and this album still crackles with life.

Truly a classic album. In my opinion, every song, from "Break on Through" to "The End" is rock at its best. The "L.A. Woman" album is better, but this one comes pretty damn close to being The Doors' greatest album.

An awesome CD by a phenomonal group. I love " Light My Fire". I may only be 13, but I know what real music is. The Doors are 100% better than any of those annoying boy bands. Although, I do admit, The Doors don't top the Beatles. They're close, but not quite. Jim Morrison is so fascinating.

It's a good album, but a think I heard it blarring at one too many fart house beer blasts to really give it quite the dangerous, rock n' roll rebel yell it's renowned for.

Great first album by great talents. The music will sway you with the creative talent. The music defined the area and time. They helped create a whole style of music.

A compliation of some of The Doors greatest stuff-listen to Jim, the poetic god of rock, as he puts tremors within your soul in songs such as, "The End," and "When the Musics Over." Also includes sure hits such as "Break on Through," and "Light My Fire." 5+!

There is a great cast and Val Kilmer virtually is Jim Morrison but Oliver Stone embelishes the bands actions a bit. Overall, not that bad a film and it's about a great band.

Classic Rock at its best. The Doors kick ass. I have the Doors Greatest Hits CD and it mellows me out. Jim Morrison was a master at his craft, a voice like no other. Who doesn't like the Doors? Everyone I know does. If I didn't have any of their CDs, I'd go out and buy some.

This is a great album. Anything from the Doors is of course, great but this would be the best of the best. This CD has even better songs than the Doors greatest hits album. The song play list is right up among the top 5 CD's in my collection.

First Doors album-one initiator of the psychadelic style in which the thrill mythology, spirituality, and metaphysics are expounded in modern lyrical style-with some classical bent. Explores death and Dionysian reverlry, as well as their emptyness and sadness.

Every album was great, and to put all the best songs on one CD was genius. For being a three man band, the Doors made great new sounds with syntesizers and all. They even set the record for the longest song.

Named after Huxley's book "The Doors of Perception", this mescaline induced band has produced a number of rock classics. Their obscure lyrics has gained the attention, whether good or bad, of almost everyone that has heard them.

Who woulde think that skinny kid from LA could have this much influence on classic rock music? This album is one of the best of the Doors. Some mood soothing music I would say.

This is definitely the best Doors album, with songs like "Break on Through" and "Light My Fire". Pleasantly surprising are the hypnotic tunes like "The Crystal Ship" and also the melodic-epic "The End". That song was used in Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now".

The bands first and best album. This is classic rock at it's finest. Great drinking music. "Break on Through" is my personal favorite. "Road House Blues" is another classic, get away from the radio cuts and experience this band jam.

I think this record sounds worse and worse with age. I still like a handful of the songs alright but the Doors main attraction -- the Morrison mythology -- is just downright silly.
