As advertised, Elvis Presley's "Number One Hits" (1987) is a compilation of all Elvis' singles that topped the Billboard charts, including "Hound Dog," "All Shook Up," "Jailhouse Rock," "Are You Lonesome Tonight?," and "Suspicious Minds." While this may sate the appetite of the most casual fan, the majority of those interested in Elvis will not be satisfied with this lone recording as it doesn't feature any of his hits that didn't reach #1 (e.g. "In The Ghetto" and "Burning Love"). Due to these substantial omissions, most fans will want to find a series of compilation recordings that cover a set number of years each, notwithstanding the excellence of "Hits." Nevertheless, in my opinion, no greatest hits package should be on this list as a compilation cannot really be compared to regular releases and does not represent the concept of a full-length effort.

Any Elvis music new or old should be praised, not many are still played on the radio for this long unless they are legends, but those dead legends just don't have new releases like this man. He is and always will be #1, the King. Alicat, I thought your comment was very well put, most low ratings on him burn me up, but yours was very nicely said. I think that even if someone doesn't like the music, they should respect the man for what he's done. As for me, I'll take him with me to the grave.

A rock pioneer? Yes. An innovator? Affirmative. A huge piece of rock and roll history? Unquestionably. "The King"? Uh-uh...

I had this tape and during my "Elvis phase" I probably learned all the lyrics to all the songs. Or maybe just all the lyrics to the songs that I really liked and would listen to over and over. Anyway, I listened to his Number One Hits a lot. Elvis sure is a talented fellow. I've found that songs like "Love Me Tender" that I couldn't get into back in the day are quite enjoyable now. But as for a lot of these songs, I don't know if I could enjoy them as much anymore. Maybe I'll dig deeper and find his TV special and the Sun Sessions to get some new material.

greatest hits collections shouldn't be allowed on a list such as this!

Elvis is actually really fun, and without him, Bruce Springsteen might never have been inspired to join the music industry!

I am just not an Elvis fan. I thank him for opening the doors for new types of music but as far as his music goes, I just can't get into it.
