Harrison's Flowers is a brutal, heavy movie that takes place in the beginning days of Serbia's civil war. The war scenes are so realistic as to be tough to take. The killing is wanton and casual, and the hate between the warring factions is palpable. The main characters are a group of photographers searching for a Andie MacDowell's husband (also a photographer), who is rumored to be in a hospital in a town in the heart of the fighting. Not a light film.

This is one of those films that lingers in your mind for days and days after watching it. It brings the horrors of war into vivid focus like no other film I've ever seen while at the same time conveys the real power of love.
