02/10/2003 | Jewel's sophmore album, Spirit, had a confidence and polish departing from the raw Debut "Pieces of you", and carried it off spectacularly. Still the social activist, sweet romanticist, and great philanthropist, she offered a rousing rally song with "Life Uncommon" and gave all proceeds of the single to her umbrella Charity, Higher Ground for Humanity. Oscillating from the independant Hands, to the sensual Jupiter, Jewel proved throughout this album her vocal mastery and ongoing social relevance. Cheers!

08/16/2001 | Here goes: I remember watching t.v. one day and seeing the music video to "Hands" after almost forgetting completely about Jewel for a long time. She had put on some weight and was becoming more "poetic." I got the cd and it seemed pretty strange with odd melodies, and I just skipped around really. But when you really listen to the songs, and get into them, you find some nice melodies ("Deep Water," "Down So Long," "Life Uncommon," Do You"). She was somewhat close to self-parody with her new poet self and golden quotes and pictures of sweaty feet in the sleeves, but as it turns out, this isn't a bad cd.

03/30/2001 | Jewel doing what she does best. I love this album and the way it makes me feel. People can trash her all they want for her innocent look on everything, but there just isn't enough innocence left in people if you ask me.

01/12/2001 | Jewel has sold out! Her first CD was raw and straight from the heart. Very original thoughts and emotions on the first, but in her CD, Spirit, I could tell she was catering to a larger audience and being more superficial.

01/11/2001 | I'm not a huge fan of Jewel, but this album is very good. It is her first album, her most original, and her greatest. The first six songs on her original demo are the most powerful. Good lyrics on these six songs.

01/10/2001 | I think this is a good album. SHe could use a really good songwriter like David Gray to help her with melodies and stuff. Listen to Gray's 'White Ladder" and see what a good combo these guys would make!!

10/11/2000 | Good 'ol Jewel is given a bad rap for her sweetsie persona- but- the girl can write. This album shows her talent, and the lyrics are beautiful. One shouldn't miss out on some of her Christmas and holiday music as well. Don't let Jewel's weird body language and occasional squeakiness get to you- just close your eyes and listen to the meaningful lyrics. Worth buying!
