Released in 1999 and directed by Michael Apted, The World Is Not Enough is an average James Bond film with an uninspiring and overly complex plot. For the uninitiated, Bond (Pierce Brosnan) is assigned as the bodyguard for the daughter of a deceased oil magnate Elektra King (Sophie Marceau). Someone is out to control Central Asia's oil supply by threatening the pipelines, and 007 must figure out who is responsible. Along the way, Bond meets the sultry nuclear weapons expert Dr. Christmas Jones (Denise Richards) and his primary nemesis Renard (Robert Carlyle) who is immune to physical pain. The film opens fast with a chase scene on the Thames River, but it has trouble keeping up the pace. Moreover, the locales are not varied enough as Bond stays primarily in Central Asia and Istanbul, the gadgets are not all that spectacular, the one-liners are weak at best, and the villains are not innovative. On the plus side, Bond gets a nice one-two punch in Bond Girls, and Garbage provides one of the best theme songs for the latter films in the series. The World Is Not Enough was also the last appearance of Desmond Llewellyn as Q.

Remington Steele's least satisfying Bond outing. Renard is hardly fleshed out and is given far too little screen time. Elektra King makes for a outstanding baddie, but Dr. Christmas Jones is atrocious. Okay, Bond babes don't always epitomize fine acting, but Denise Richards is unbearable. She can't deliver a single line with conviction. And that's not hyperbole. Add on locales we've already seen in earlier Bond films, and it all adds up to one ho-hum adventure. Roll on, Bond 20!

This movie will get you on the edge of your seat with all of the excitement and action. Plus, the very hot Denise Richards is in it.It also has some very great special effects. A really fun movie!

I think Im just tired of James Bond face - but all the stunts seem less beleivable as the years go by and more predictable - if that is possible.

Just another slutty James Bond movie.

This is just about the worst Bond movie ever. To say the plot is flimsy would be to grossly overstate the existence of a plot. The casting belongs on the TV, or a Channel 4 low budget film - Robert Carlyle as a Bond bad guy? I don't think so - Robbie Coltrane and Goldie (??????) - nuff said. Only Judi Dench has the screen quality, but she comes across like your headmistress from school, not your boss. Bonds got worse when Harry Saltzman left (died?), worse still when they ran out of books to base the plots on, and have hit an absolute nadir now Cubby Broccoli isn't involved. Give up - Not another - This was a shameful exploitation to hide the lack of a plot by having an action sequence ever five minutes. And I just can't suspend disbelief any longer - Bond films started in the 1962, which assuming he was around 30 then makes him about 70 by now. They also belong in that era, when the Cold War threat actually did exist, and films such as From Russia, Goldfinger etc had some degree of plausibility. Loons like Carlyle, Jonathan Pryce and Sean Bean just do not have any credibility in the modern, post Glasnost era.

Pierce Brosnan should stick to Remmington Steel because James Bond was finished when Sean Connery finished. You are right, to World is not Enough for ....me to poop on.

The movie was basically just like the other 100 007's. The actors did a great job. It's al the same. The action made it okay but still, it sucked.

The movie did not impress me at all. It was the same as the others. The actors were okay and there was good special effects. Denise Richards looked great and she did a good job. Overall, though, not that good.

Pierce Bronsan rocks! He is a great James Bond and this movie (storyline) is intense. The 'toys' are awesome (speedboat) and the Bond woman are (as always) well cast with a funny play on words (Chritmas Jones).

This is a horrible movie. Possibly the worst James Bond movie ever. The acting by Denise Richards was deplorable, and the corny Bond jokes seem to have gotten worse. In addition, the rich oil daughter lady was supposed to be the prettiest girl in the world, but she really isn't.

This was a good escape for a time-I really miss Sean Connery-I just feel like I'm watching Remington Steele does Bond...

Very exciting. No story, but all climaxes. Very scenic photography. See it at a Sat matinee with lots of screaming kids...

The best of all Bondies. Brings back all the fun and intriguing elements of old, and adds great modern special effects. No the 'Bond girl' models can't act, but they never could in these movies nor were they intended to. No need, it works this way and it works well. Hear hear!! Let's have some more!

Classic Bond. Solid, if predictable. Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist??? Please.

It delivers what it promises: lots of action, beautiful women, high-tech gadgets, and the typical Bond one-liners. If you're not expecting too much in the way of plot and acting, and if you like Bond movies, you're really going to enjoy this one. Probably the best Brosnan Bond movie to date.

A fun, entertainining movie. The boat scene at the beginning is outstanding, and there is enough action to keep it interesting throughout. My only regret is that the tall, Spanish looking woman who was trying to kill Bond in the boat scene is killed off - in my opinion way too early. I think she had a lot of potential.

The movie was great except for Denise Richards. She's great to look at but can't act her way out of a paper bag.
