Patriot 5

I bought a copy of the Patriot, the other day, and watched it again last night. I am giving it a serious upgrade as a good movie.

I panned it at first because of the lack of historical accuracy, but I back away from that. It mixes battles, but it is really worth the watch.

This final battle scene at the end of this film probably portrays the way the real battle actually looked in similarity to the way white guys in the suburbs try to portray black guys in their neighboring city (it was sub par to say the least), but it was shot well and the director got the point across. And as for Gibson...yeah, we all know he's a family man. And I really felt something for his character in this movie when his sons get killed. But that whole aspect of the film became corny at the end when he was fighting one-on-one with the killer, and making over-the-top, spasmatic "you-bastard-you-killed-my-sons-and-now-you're-about-to-kill-me-so-i'm-gonna-make-crazy-tantrum-poses-for-the-camera" faces. All that being said, this movie is worth a look for war mongers...especially American Revolution buffs. It's a little too Hollywood to look realistic, but you will probably be satisfied anyway. I was.

This movie is overrated and the only thing that kept my interest was Jason Isaacs. Col. William Tavington was very cold and scary especially wearing that smirk of his...I really think that character stole the show.

Is Mel Gibson acting out some long suppressed hatred for an old history teacher? That seems like the only explanation for all these unhistorical pieces of crap he does?

Oh my god. CTVFan's stupidity just gave me a headache. Of course there was gore. It was a war. I guess they could have changed it to where the British were beaten in a pillow fight instead of the American Revolution. But then it would be even more inaccurate.

Aside from one humorous scene involving a rocking chair and the occasional cute moment, this movie is not enjoyable in the slightest. The acting is too low-key and very angst-ridden. The plot is wholly uncreative, very cynical, and borders on nihilistic. The battle scenes are terribly done, and the gore factor kills them completely. And, the movie drags on for way too long. Even the historical aspects of this film cant redeem it in the slightest. Rene Auberjonios (Star Trek Deep Space Nines Odo) plays an interesting characterwho is killed. That is also not a good thing.

This movie should not be judged on its historical accuracy. Its only about history to a certain extent. It is really about a man who is pushed so far that he is forced to fight in a war that he was initially against. I thought that Mel Gibson and the rest of the cast did a great job in this film, and it was a very entertaining movie that left me feeling like I got my money's worth. The battle scenes were awesome, and the drama in between was also captivating. Kind of surprising coming from the same team that made "Independence Day". It's an amazing story of a man who despite his own personal feelings is willing to fight in order to avenge his country and to ensure the independence of a young nation from a seemingly brutal tyrant.

My favorite movie ever!!! Mel Gibson gives an outstanding performance as Benjamin Martin, a father of seven children, who keeps family top priority in his life. He is from South Carolina, a state which is going to war with the British. Benjamin doesn't want war; he wishes there were some alternative to it. However, he ends up fighting the British, along with his oldest son, Gabriel, to take revenge for the death of Thomas, one of Benjamin's sons. References are made to slaves, i liked the way those conflicts were resolved in the end. Colonel Tavington got what he deserved in the end... I really liked that. The restoration of order taking place was great, when his house was being rebuilt. Overall, an awesome adventure and journey dealing with American History. Packed with great storylines, action and suspence. Rush out and see it.

I flipped to this movie this afternoon, and I still didn't like it any more than I did the first time I watched it. The plot is decent and could have made for a watchable epic of the Revolutionary War, but the script is very awkward, and at times downright poor. The film talks down to the viewer with a "TV movie" tone, which was a letdown after expecting a film of the same quality as "Braveheart" (Mel Gibson's other most recent "epic" picture.). The storyline involving a reluctant father being forced to participate in the War could have been much better, and probably would have been had they had better scriptwriters and a more visionary director. Gibson makes the most of what he has to work with, but you could see the frustration in his eyes as he speaks some of the lines and progresses through the motions required of him. This is not the worst movie ever made, and at times captures the grandeur it intends with nice photography and some well-executed scenes, but the bulk of this film is average period-drama at best.

Please. "The Patriot" Just shows the stupidity of war. Face to face combat 20 feet away like it's a damn formal ceremony should never be seen as entertainment. I'm an American, and I'm ashamed about how Hollywood glorifies violence.

Other people have voiced objections to the (at times ludicrous) historical innaccuracy, apalling assertion of contempory Western political correctness onto 18th century America etc, etc, so I won't repeat it. Maybe someone can explain to me why it appears that American audiences need so much platitude. I can tell you that some people in Australia were actually laughing incredulously in the theatre when I saw this film. I was asked who starred in the film. I replied, "a cannonball", and I stand by that. To be fair, the battle scenes were good, scary and seemed true to historical account. Unfortunately where Braveheart succeeded, Patriot failed dismally. In my opionion, a much better film on the American War of Independence exists in eighties flop, Revolution. At least the acting was alot better.

Okay, Mel Gibson is even sexy as a single father of 7. I liked the movie for its honesty in dealing with what happens in war, and not shying away from scenes like the church being lit on fire (man, did I cry after that). It is not the best war movie, by far, but it was pretty good.

Yep. I knew Baraveheart needed a sequel. I love history and I know for a fact the British never put people in churches and burned them alive. That was WW2 and the German's did that. This movie was unnecesary and over done.I love my country and am very proud of my heritage, I just think it could have been done better and without such meaningless violence glorifying shots like the one of the guy getting his head blown off by a cannon ball. It is very run of the mill and childish in such a serious drama that this picture was supposed to be. It played like any Mel Gibson film,(take your pick-Lethal Weapon,Payback,Braveheart) put gibson in the good old American Revolution, kill some of his family and watch the results. Gibson needs something new. But as they say,if it ain't broke don't fix it. As long as people see these Gibson flicks he'll keep on making em. His daughter was a cuttie.

PLEASE...PLEASE...lets keep the SS and its minions out of the American Revolution. Face the war waw fought because a lot of rich Americans didnt want to pay their taxes. THIS MOVIE IS A DISGRACE...unfortunately alot of uninformed viewers will think is truth...however it isnt..it is a very nice yarn spun around some truths...why not make a Mel Gibson movie of similar ilk in 1941 occupied France...then you really could have Nazis...Lets see we could make Mel a French gentile married to a Jewish woman...then the SS comes and carts away his family to the death camps...Mel would do his swashbucking against the super heroes of the "master race". unfortunately, he'd find two of his children in Dachau dying of typhus...he'd swear revenge...and ultimately kill Adolf Hitler aand everything would be all right...and just as fraudulent...The MTV generation will like this movie because none of them were awake during history class...and cause it has "cool" special effects.

Since "Braveheart" this the most powerful movie i've seen in a long time. I almost believed that the actors were real people back during the Revolutionary War. They did a fantastic job, esp. Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger. Anyone who i've talked to have said that this movie was fantastic and that they cried. Even though I'm Canadian this movie is imprinted in my mind and I believe it's the closest anyone will come to understanding The Revolutionary war. I definitly believe this to be the best movie of the year.

This movie is just amazing! I didn't know what to expect before i saw it with my own eyes. Lots of my friends were telling me that it was just a rehashed Braveheart set in colonial America. I must vehemently disagree. After seeing the film for myself, I was not only excited by the action, but moved deeply by the story. While there were some historical innacuracies, especially concerning the morals of Mr. Benjamin Martin, I was able to overlook them in light of the emotional aspects of the screenplay. My favorite scene is when Benjamin Martin takes the tattered flag and pushes ahead inspiring his fellow patriots to "stay the course" closely followed by his daughter's words pleading him to stay.

Patriot has everything you want from a good movie..Family loyalty, action, romance, a bit of comedy thrown in every once in a while and a compelling storyline, and an amazing historical event. I really enjoyed it and my interest never waned throughout the entire three hours. Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger gave remarkable performances as well as the rest of the cast. The battle scenes are pretty wild. I just can't imagine these men fighting in a open field like that. Definitely some violent parts, but come on, it's about the Revolutionary War. In my opinion, this was a great look into one family's fight as well as the fight for our Country.

Reading everyones comments about the Patriot. I feel some was right and wrong about the movie. All I could say about the movie, it has spoken well. To show us all what really happen durring the war. I feel that the character "Col. Travington" was only doing his duty and also showing his true feelings about the war. I thought that this movie was very emotional. Sure the british soldier was wrong about burning the church with innocent folks, but who was higher in rank to stop him from burning innocent folks. So I say it was the Gerneral's fault who allow him to do what he was good at a evil "valiant". But this is only a movie and I feel "Jason Isaacs" has perform very well and I hope he got paid good, for his work.

Every citizen of this once great country should be required to watch The Patriot. The movie brilliantly demonstrates why we have the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights of our Constitution. Too many people have sacrificed everything to make available the freedoms we enjoy today. The forces at work to take them away from us must be stopped in their tracks. As far as historical accuracy, read about the Battle of Cowpens. You will find that the historic Battle of Cowpens was a much more one sided victory for the Continentals than the movie suggests!

What Hollywood won't do to slap some big name actor on a mediocre adventure story in hopes of luring audiences! The Patriot was long and had a cookie cutter unoriginal feel to the script. There's nothing I hate more than when there is cheesy Hollywood modern day glib dialogue in a historical epic. Be consistent.

I must be the only person who wasn't bothered by how long this movie was!! I was too caught up in the story-line and action to notice! Okay, so it was written from the "American point-of-view" and made the Brits look like cold-heated non-humans!! If this movie had been written from the "Brit point of view", the American's would have been portrayed as the epitomy of evil. So it wasn't always historically accurate, and yes, there was a love story or two added in for "mush-factor", but the battle scenes had me gripping my seat, holding my breathe, and several times cheering out loud! This movie is not for the faint of heart--Benjamin Martin with a hatchet is absolutley savage!! It is predictable at times--but we know going in that it's a movie about war--and war is not pretty. I was disappointed that Braveheart kept coming to mind--same type of bludgeoning and bloodshed--just different costumes! Mel and Heath were a good choice for the leads--good on-screen chemistry!! Joely Richardson was a bit over-done in her "drapes for a dress" and bosom pushed up for distraction. (More of a sense of modesty would have been more believable!!) Just one word for the scene with the tattered flag reviving the spirits of the militia---"WOW"!!!!

While a long film with some incredibly cheesy and just plain dumb moments, it wasn't too bad. It was more of a movie for the patriot (no pun intended) because of the way the British are portrayed. I'm sure that some British commanders were a little crazy, but The Patriot makes it seem like they are crazy and stupid. In addition to the fact that once again, our hero (Mel Gibson) is invincible and able to kill fifty people and still make it home to dinner. However, all movies are like that, so I can't really punish The Patriot in that respect. There is a romantic subplot that contributed most of the cheesy parts of The Patriot, but I guess it adds something for the girls out there, if they aren't already enticed to see it because of Mel Gibson's charming good looks. :) All in all, it was a pretty good movie that did get some of that patriotic pride coming out of my heart. I recommend it for people who aren't overly concerned with a correct portrayal of history, like gory scenes, and can stand to sit still for three hours straight.
