This was a film that really surprised me. I wasn't expecting it to me as good as it was. The action didn't really pick up to the end, but it did keep you on your seat during the last half hour. I know the girls I saw the movie with definitely screamed twice while in the theater. Thats a good test for a thriller.

have not seen this

The film's was OK but anything with the luscious Ms Pfeiffer is worth watching.
echoscot 10/12/2005
This movie gets a lot of mixed reviews. I really enjoyed it thought. A fun, if predictable, plot twist. Some good scares and just entertaining.

To long to boring

This movie kept me on the edge of my seat, and it wasnt because there was something nasty on it. Very suspenseful, it kept me guessing until the end. Great for a cold rainy night with friends.
frogger20190 07/22/2004
What happens when you throw about six Hitchcock films, a few Stephen King adaptations, and overracting by Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer into a blender? This schlock, with more false endings than any movie in recent memory.
sfalconer 03/09/2004
Boring slow and predictable

I dont know about anybody else, but if you see this movie in the theatres, it will haunt you. This movie does a good job to get into your mind. The images were very eerie and hard to forget, the ghost was simply creepy. Also have some good scenes that make you jump. Very unpredictable, especially the ending, one of the most serious endings i've ever witnessed!
Vanilla_Tiger 08/01/2003
I don't believe Michelle and Harrison are the best match for this film, no 'true to nature' chemistry between them. The concept was good, it's just a pity it wasn't excercised well on screen. Good twists but just not enough 'umph' to make it a great movie.
Kennit 07/20/2003
Was this supposed to be overflowing with suspense? *looks about* It's certainly overflowing with something, but suspense it is NOT.
Weirdmeister 07/10/2003
It was a great movie that i felt "welcome back Hitchcock". If Hýtchcock was alive he probably would give the same rating to this film. I strongly recommend this film to all psychologic-stress film lovers. Also Pfeiffer is again excellent both with her beauty and her act which gives the horror scenes double or triple effect. This film should be seen!

Despite the sometimes slow-moving pace of the film, I really thought that this was one hell of a thriller. It was not really scary, just very suspenseful and thrilling. I thought that the musical score was perfect for the film, and just made it all the more suspenseful. Yes, some parts in the middle dragged on, but in the end, it was well worth the wait. It became predictable in the last 45 minutes of the film, but I never expected quite the ending that this film provided. I have never watched a scene in recent times quite like the love scene when Pfeiffer's character discovers that her husband (Ford) was cheating on her with a student. Fine acting jobs by both Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford, espescially Ford, who truly showed his range as an actor, playing a vey different role than the "good guy" roles that he is accustomed to. He truly showed darkness both through his facial expressions and words at the end of the movie- his character just turned stone cold at the end: no emotion. This film had it all: suspense, a great plot, great acting, a great musical score and an eerie feeling that reminded me so much of "Psycho". I'd reccomend it to anyone who is looking for a film that even remotely resembles the work of Hitchcock.

Just got through watching this for the first time, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing, and a couple of genuinely scary moments. It leaves some loose threads about the neighbors strange behavior and it does get a tiny bit predictable, i.e., backing from one room to another and turning to find someone right there behind them, or closing a door only to find someone right behind it. That trick has been used a few hundred times, but it doesn't take away nor does it add to this one. The top notch acting of Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford, and a better-than-average screenplay and make this one a cut above the rest of this genre.

Magnificent acting by Michelle and Harrison. Quite an unusual thriller.
antondatree 04/24/2002
You would think Hitchcock came from the grave and secretly took over Robert Zemeckis' (the director's) body. This is a clever thriller that is very chilling, and, even though not original, it's still brilliant stuff. A change of character for Harrison Ford alright. Worth seeing. Summary: A CLEVER, CHILLING THRILLER THAT'S WORTH SEEING.
ellajedlicka21 10/21/2001
Not a great movie. It was a somewhat suspenseful film.
callmetootie 10/07/2001
Pretty boring, confusing at many times.
nsyncshotstuff 99 08/29/2001
this movie totally freaked me out but it was so cool! Great story! They should make more movies like this! But i don't understand what the whole deal with the bath tub is about!
afterglow70 07/06/2001
I love horror flicks and judge them upon this.....: If I need someone to go to bathroom w/ me cause I get to scared, it was good! Well, that didn't happen in this one, but it wasn't to bad. And I must add that the end had a twist to it that I hadn't seen before.
liddlebopeep 07/05/2001
The build up to What Lies Beneath's climax is slow, confusing and requires more than a little patience. Michelle Pfeiffer looks hot but I don't think that would be enough for me to recommend this movie to anyone. I'll put it this way, if you've seen the trailer you've seen the movie. Entirely predictable.
Yadayada 05/18/2001
Two top performances by two gorgeous performers, but this movie was very confusing and sometimes even annoying. You feel as though you'd like something more exciting to happen, something interesting. Although it is a movie for people that like solving mysteries and coming up with the question of "Who done it?"
gymgal73 04/08/2001
THe movie was great the first time. It had some good plot twists, and some suspenseful and scary parts to it. I dont reccomend seeing it more than once though.
tangy_84 02/12/2001
One of the best horror movies I've ever seen. It had me on the edge of my seat
Pingu 02/03/2001
I am disappointed at this movie. It's not scary AT ALL!!! The plot is week and Ford's acting is a joke (as usual). Pfeiffer did well tho. Still, the movie is not worth watchin.
Teeenr0me0 01/20/2001
This movie was awful! Boring as hell!
papong 01/15/2001
It hides the theme of the movie and the production is good. The stars are suitable for the movie.
afarmer 01/15/2001
This movie kept me on edge from beginning to end. It was scary and I like scary movies. There weren't too many twists and was very entertaining.
angelthree 01/15/2001
The first three quarters of the movie are so boring. There's a lot of suspense for no action. The only real "scary" part is the last fifteen minutes when you already know what is about to happen. The only good thing about this movie is the names of the actors.
Char 01/12/2001
This is a thrilling movie that has a great plot. Unlike some other thrillers, there is actually a good story. The ending will surprise everyone.
Jeremy2 01/11/2001
A great scary movie. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I would see it again.
Solo9311 01/10/2001
It was very scary. It was action filled and suspenseful. Michelle Pfieffer is hot. Harrison Ford is a very talented actor, I enjoy his films.
lauren1204 01/10/2001
I love suspense mystery movies, so I thought this movie was really good. It kept me wondering the whole movie, and on the edge of my seat. The music would jump right out on you and make the whole theater squeal. It was a really cool movie.
OneRareRose 01/10/2001
This movie was wonderful. It was full of suspense. The story was flowing and it never dragged on. Usually during most of the scary movies I've seen, they weren't as scary as I thought they would be. This movie actually fulfilled my expectations of a scary movie. It's my favorite movie as of now.
poizon16 01/10/2001
I was screaming throughout the entire movie. I didn't suspect Harrison Ford to be the murderer. Michelle played a really beautiful role.
YoungJi5 01/10/2001
I heard a lot of good things about this movie so I kind of expected it to be good. It's a thriller and has an unexpected ending. It's pretty much mysterious but the story is somewhat unrealistic. Anyway, the movie handles different themes so I liked it.
Snuggles 01/10/2001
The movie is about a husband who had an affair without his wife knowing and then killed the girl. The movie has a good plot that is both scary and exciting.
GhettoPat 01/09/2001
Good thriller movie with lots of unexpected twists. Harrison Ford is good. Ending kind of creeps you out.
phcheer1 12/28/2000
OMG! i went to the movies to see this movie. i thougt it was so scary. i seriously was like scared to look in my bathroom mirror for like a whole 2 weeks.i think michelle, whatever her last name is did a great job...i was like soooo shoked at the end. it was like WHOA!
Jeraldene 12/16/2000
This movie was not one bit scarey - in most places it was absolutely cheesy and predictable. Unfortunately I cant give my favourite hunk, Harrison Ford, less than 3 stars - though it honestly doesnt deserve it.
Jmkeynes 12/02/2000
Gem0521 12/01/2000
This movie is very suspenseful and has a pretty good story line. Unlike other scary movies, this movie does a good job of explaining the details and what is going on.
Vienna 11/30/2000
Excellent thriller. Must see! Not original at all. It is one scare movie that will scare the viewer.
PixEE 11/21/2000
Rarely does a movie hold enough suspense to draw a scream from my throat, this was an exception...and mine was not the only one heard. A script full of incredible plot twists, haunting images and a total surprise ending had me. The Hitchcocish camera angles and overall cinematography resurrected the horrors of psycho and other such films. I totally enjoyed the change from the typical roles normally played by both Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfiefer.
Bahar 11/20/2000
This movie was so cool. I was seriously jumping out of my seat the whole time, although it did take a long time for everything to add up.
SpamGrl 11/20/2000
This is one of those movies you can see over and over again and still have the living daylights scared out of you. Not only that is that you don't know what is going to happen. The end is a real shocker and it really surprises you. I love this movie. I saw it twice already and I want to see it for a third time.
dasht69 11/17/2000
MICHELLE PFEIFFER DIDN'T GET NAKED, THAT STUNK!!!
Shorty 403 11/15/2000
This movie was really good because it was really scary and the visual effects were awesome. Also, the movie had a decent story.
Supafly 11/14/2000
What Lies Beneath was a terrible movie which attempted to be scary but failed miserably. The movie blatantly foreshadowed everything that was going to happen, insulting the audience. The used classic techniques which gave everything away.
