Never watched it but from what I hear its a classic.

Animal House is one of the classic comedies. It's hilarious, and for that I give it five stars. But unfortunately, it is also one of the largest contributing factors to people perception of college fraternities. Sure, there are fraternities out there that remind me of animal house, but there are plenty that are nothing like it.

National Lampoon's anything is a hold your breath title.... LOL. It could be good , bad, ugly , funny ......... BUT the newer ones could never compare to the Christmas Vacation and others starring Chevy Chase..... they are just way too funny to compare.

I liked it. But I think it might have fell a little short for me because of all the hype on it!

Another classic. My favorite part would have to be the toga party where "zit" take's this guys guitar and bashes it on the wall. God, how many time's have I wanted to do that?!

I know this movie is supposed to be a classic, but it wasn't as funny as I had imagined it would be.
Spike65 05/22/2008
Who hasn't seen this film? Belushis' best as far as I'm concerned. Tim Matheson was perfectly cast as "Otter" too. The actor that played "Dean Wormer" is a great bad guy out to close the disgracefull Delta House fraternity. Good music and over the top chaos make this a classic.
GenghisTheHun 03/15/2007
Does it have flaws? Yes! Does it bring back memories of the good old days? Did it establish a genre (for better or for worse?) Yes!

I have the Double Secret Probation Edition on DVD. Brilliant movie and some cool extras on the DVD.
UPDATE: No clue on the album. Such a thing is as random as the movie, though...

Hilarious. Offensive yes. And hilarious.

A must see.

Take into consideration the fact that they had a group of people who were largely inexperienced, very little money, and no history of this kind of movie to help carry it, it's that much more impressive how good and funny this movie is. Everything from Porkys to Fast Times at Ridgemont High to American Pie can draw a line from their success to Animal House. Is the success of Animal House over? Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

They can't do that to our pleges - only WE can do that to our pleges! So un-PC and funny it wouldn't get filmed today.
Wid71 05/09/2005
Planes Trains & Automobiles beats out Animal House??? Oh I don't think so! This movie put National lampoon on the map. A timeless classic!

The King of Comedies. My #2 favorite movie of all time (next to Rocky). Though primarily lowbrow, anyone who went to college can relate to this movie (I was not a Greek, either). If I had to rank my favorite scenes, it would go: #1 Mind if we Dance With Yo Dates; #2 Marmarlade -- Raped in Prison -- Niedermeyer -- shot by his own troops in Vietnam; #3 Bluto's inspirational speech to the Deltas (Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor); #4 Double Secret Probation; #5 I'm a zit; #6 Bluto smashing the guitar; #7 The Devil/Angel scene; #8 The parade; #9 The reaction of the Deltas when they see Dorfman for the first time; #10 The expulsion scene with Dean Wormer. I can watch Animal House over and over and still laugh at the same scenes. I freakin' actually had an incident similar to the Fawn Leibowitz scene. I pity the young dude who is a quite prolific rater here and gave it 1 star. All I can say to you dude is that you need to start drinking heavily.

It's a shame comedies like this are so rarely made anymore - clever, warm-hearted, and funny throughout. I still think, Over? Over? Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell, no! is one of the funniest lines in cinema, delivered as it was by a guy who really should not have been in college to start with.
sfalconer 12/02/2004
I love this movie! Has to be seen uncut the networks butcher it. Truly one of the funniest films ever made with a great cast.

Released in 1980 and directed by John Landis, National Lampoon's Animal House has become the standard college film against which all sophomorish comedies are measured. There is no real plot, as the film simply takes us through the madcap adventures of the Delta Fraternity House at Faber College in 1962. The Delta's are essentially a group of slack professional students, drunks, and general underachievers, namely John Bluto Blutarsky (John Belushi), Eric Otter Stratton (Tim Matheson), et al. Unfortunately, Dean Vernon Wormer (John Vernon) is not a fan of the Deltas, places the fraternity on double secret probation, and entices the rival, straightlaced Omegas to help him get Delta's charter revoked. This movie breathed new life into the fraternity concept, not to mention food fights and toga parties. While many critics and comments concentrate on John Belushi's performance, this film was successful largely due to Tim Matheson's portrayal of the smooth, ladies' man Otter and the use of music from the early 1960's. The bottom line is that National Lampoon's Animal House is great comedy for its non-cerebral humor and remains a common viewing experience for a generation.

A must own classic that I never get tired of. The devil and angel on fighting over whether or not he should have sex with the girl is absolutely hilarious. Crude humor at it's best.
kinkykinks 04/11/2004
clssictvfan47 you have no sense of humor when comes to funny movies this movie was a classic movie! anybody agree?
irishgit 12/17/2003
The only National Lampoon movie worth watching. Hilarious. Reminds me of college.
jdsteffen 09/30/2003
If you don't like this movie, what's stuck up your a**. John Belushi at his best.
snlgirl 08/02/2003
I just saw this movie for the first time, and I think it still stands up today, even after almost 3o years. John Belushi is hilarious, and it is just ridiculously funny!
ClassicTVFan47 03/16/2003
National Lampoon movies are very rarely ever good. They resort to lowbrow humor which send many running from their VCR (I could never see a dumb movie like this making it to DVD). The acting stink and the jokes smell worse. Go away, bad movie!
No Mercy 02/26/2003
The GREATEST movie of all time. Period.
Teaseress 01/30/2003
If you don't like base humour - then this isn't for you. The first time I saw this film I was in absolute stitches and it never fails to crack my up. I don't know what the college scene is like in America, but if its like this then I'd love to go over and have a peek. My favouritw scene has to be when Bluto is in the cafeteria piling food onto his tray - he actually stuffs a whole hamburger into his mouth! And when he sits down a girl says "That boy is a P.I.G" His response is to put some white ice cream into his mouth and says "guess what I am now" hits his cheeks so its sprays out of his mouth and says "a zit" then proceeds to start a food fight. An absolutely fantastic film which is definately a cult classic (it was also the first film Kevin Bacon starred in)
