 | Spike65 (11) 05/22/2008 | I think this is the best of the "Vacation" series with Chevy Chase not counting the Christmas one which is one of my favorite holiday movies. The sequels just got progressively dumber and the kids were different actors in each one. Pretty funny and worth a rental. Or just wait until it is shown on t.v. which is pretty often.

 | PixarFan2007 (5) 05/10/2007 | This has its moments, but its not the best comedy. Clark takes his family on a vacation to a famous theme park modeled after Disney. They come across many mishaps along the way. The ending is the best part.

 | bassman44113 (16) 05/03/2007 | I think the first Vacation movie and the Christmas Vacation one were the best. Every Christmas season, I watch the Christmas Vacation along with Christmas Story, and my Pee Wee Herman Christmas special

 | Jeremy00081 (5) 09/14/2006 | Now here's a perfect comedy, because almost every scene is hilarious. Chase is a little weird, but that's partly what makes him so funny. Quaid and Candy are also funny as hell in this movie. A total classic worth buying.

 | Silver Eagle 252 (8) 04/02/2006 | Not on the top ten list of comedy movies, but still very funny and anyone who has had to travel across country in the family station wagon/van can relate to this movie.

 | James76255 (17) 06/12/2005 | Probably Chevy Chase's best movie, which is almost a backhanded compliment. Is starting to show it's age, so to speak, but is still a very enjoyable movie. However, none of this explains why there is a picture of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch to your left.

 | Molfan (57) 03/21/2005 | This is the first of the vacation movies with the Griswalds. It is quite funny. Chevy Chase and the rest of the cast are all good as a family leaving from Chicago to get to the fictitious Wally World in California. Along the way they stay at cousins where they have to bring aunt Edna with them an old ornery aunt who ends up dying on the trip{ what Clark does with her after that is pretty funny} The Griswalds have bad luck on their trip on their way to Wally World only to have a real big surprise when they get there. this is real funny movie. It got a lot of laughs out of our family.

 | Solenoid DH (19) 08/23/2004 | Genuinely funny, and there's nothing suble about the humor. This is the best thing Chevy Chase ever did. The only uncomfortable thing about it is that it reminds me so much of the summer vacations our family used to take...there are so many similarities that I wonder if someone in Hollywood had us under surveillance all those years.

 | kolby1973 (32) 08/11/2004 | National Lampoon's Vacation is a true comedy. I laughed all the way thru it...never a dull moment. Chevy Chase was hilarious, but the true star of this movie was obviously Beverly D'Angelo, an underrated actress who ALWAYS does a superb job in any movie role she takes on. Vacation makes you feel like you are actually on vacation from the real world for an hour and a half, and the ride isn't half bad. A great comedy that is already a classic...highly recommended....UPDATE- I would have to agree with GoneAway somewhat, I have felt like vacations I have been on have been just like this. Well not identical, but I have definately had some really bad vacations over the years...

 | VirileVagabond (32) 08/11/2004 | National Lampoon's Vacation (1983), Caddyshack, and Fletch are the three best movies for Chevy Chase. In Vacation (directed by Harold Ramis) an average family from Chicago (the Griswolds) are driving across country to visit Wally World. The film includes all the stereotypical family trip situations, this time to the extreme complete with an ugly station wagon, awkward family reunions, car trouble, and dead relatives and pets. Nothing cerebral here; however, Chase (as dad Clark Griswold), Beverly D'Angelo (as mom Ellen Griswold), Anthony Michael Hall (as son Rusty Griswold), and Randy Quaid (as cousin Eddie) really handle the material well. A last interesting note, John Hughes was the screenwriter for National Lampoon's Vacation.

 | Jimbo04 (0) 07/28/2004 | Funny Comedy that put Chevy Chase and Beverly DAngelo on the map of stars. Christmas was as good. But the other two Vacation movies were the opposite, boring and rarely funny.

 | nicole78 (0) 09/08/2003 | This is one movie that I can watch over and over again and it never gets old. Chevy Chase I think is absolutely hilarious despite people nowadays giving him a hard time. I loved this movie, European Vacation and Christmas Vacation. Vegas Vaction wasn't all that and I think it was mainly because I didn't care for who they picked for their kids. Another great movie if you love Chevy Chase movies is Funny Farm!! I have to say that National Lampoon's Vacation has to be one of the funniest movies from the 80's. CLASSIC!!!

 | ponerse (0) 06/02/2003 | Although I don't like Chevy Chase, this was one of his better films. I love the part where they go to their white trash in-laws house for a stop-over and have to drag the old aunt along with her Cujo-like dog. Fantastic.

 | LoneUSFullHouseFan (3) 03/07/2002 | The only one in this series that I did not like was European Vacation. That was hacked off trash. But this one was decent. My favorite scene is when they discover that Aunt Edna is dead. Audrey: 'She breathed on me! A dead person breathed on me!" I loved it!

 | Errol (5) 02/21/2002 | A fun and hilarious movie almost from beginning to end. Chevy at his best. It could almost be a great family movie. Unfortunately, it is marred by unnecessary bad language and "adult" situations. I hate to say it, but I'd recommend the edited for TV version.

 | callmetootie (4) 04/13/2001 | National Lampoon's Vacation is by far the best movie of 1983, and one of the best comedies ever made in the history of filmmaking. Chevy Chase, Beverly D. Angelo, Anthony Michael Hall, and Dana Barron star as the Griswolds who are on their way to a famous amusement park, Wallyworld.

 | jmerklinghaus (0) 10/16/2000 | A movie about a family's pain and suffering on their journey to an amusement park for their vacation. It's sort of a dark comedy with a bit of a happy ending, but not happy enough to justify the trip. Watching people suffer just isn't my idea of humor.

 | Ruby (15) 09/11/2000 | Chevy Chase's career is justified by this one film, even if he's made a bunch more that tarnish our memory of him. And Aunt Edna and Christie Brinkley play their parts perfectly as well!

 | Munson (7) 09/08/2000 | Another 80's classic. This was one of the first movies that I taped off of HBO on my family's old VCR and I probably wore the tape out. Chevy Chase is really funny as Clark Griswold who is obsessed with showing his family a good time on their summer vacation. Don't get me wrong...this movie isn't going to make you think too much. It's just pretty damn funny.

 | Wiggum (16) 06/09/2000 | A classic. Man, I still remember the first time I saw Christie Brinkly drive up in that Ferrari. This movie has a bunch of hilarious scenes - my favorite being the talk Chevy Chase has with Anthony Michael Hall after he runs the car off the road. What happened to Chevy Chase? This movie, Fletch, his Saturday Night Live days - he did some great stuff. Then it just started getting worse and worse, culminating in that disastrous talk show. If you only know Chevy from his more recent movies, definitely rent Vacation so you can see him in his golden days.
