It's cheesy, corny, goofy and predictable. I think it's a comedy classic because of, not in spite of, those qualities.
Gris 08/02/2009
Liked it when I was a kid, but I don't think I would now that I'm older.
ayn 05/12/2009
I loved the franchise when I was 10.
sk4u2009 05/12/2009
I like these movies also..... another one that made several sequels
Astromike 05/12/2009
I never really cared for it too much. Just never really liked it.
caroline112 12/29/2008
loved all of them...
Spike65 10/12/2008
They should have stopped after the first Police Academy film. Starring a lot of tv and "B" movie actors it actually is pretty funny overall. Young teenagers love this kind of stuff.
Dirty little Mary 08/13/2008
The original was funny as hell

Another good classic...Police Academy 4 is the best one.
Oo Michelle oO 06/18/2008
They were good in the 80s. And yeah, I realize the Gutt is in it.

Great movie. I thought it sounded stupid, but one day my mom caught Police Academy 2 or 3 on comedy central. I sat down, not knowing I was in for a treat. I love movies about comedical misfits that prove they are just as good as 'normal' people.
Belinda894 06/02/2008
They were all good

trebon1038 05/31/2008
Still watch it from time to time. The first one is the best by far.
GenghisTheHun 05/31/2008
Rather stupid but mildly entertaining.

Jessica425 05/30/2008
classic comedy
g8rhoo 05/29/2008
I rated this movie as "Good" because I seem to remember that I liked it when I originally saw it. I don't know if I'd like it that much now, although Michael Winslow (the guy who makes all the sound effects with his mouth) is still amazing. Wildcat Goldthwait, on the other hand, is annoying.

The 80's was a time of peace, prosperity, good music, great sports rivalries, and some good movies. Granted, these were not among the best; but some people will turn anything into a social commentary.
AEnzhRu 02/14/2007
It's hard to imagine the Police Academy movies (can you believe that they made seven of them?) coming out in any other decade than the decadent '80s. The '80s produced some of the most amazingly-bad music and movies (although much of the music and movies are quite underrated and quite good) -not to mention fashions- of any decade. Nothing bespeaks of the cheesier, more horrendous aspects of that decade than Police Academy. The actors aren't really actors -they're more like "retards." You would be hard-pressed to movies as retarded as the Police Academy series even in the '80s, much less any other decade. Some movies are so stupid that they're funny. The Police Academy movies are so stupid that, for the most part, they're NOT funny. What makes you laugh every now and then is the realization that the actors and director THINK they're doing and saying funny things, when they aren't. Watch the Police Academy movies once, but I don't know if they're worth watching more than that. Even The Three Stooges' (which I think are classic and VERY hilarious) brand of comedy is a hundred times more intelligent and original and creative than THIS schlock.

An instant classic!
kattwoman 06/12/2005
the best and the first of the police academy movies. after this one they just got worse and worse.
coleslough 10/04/2004
the blonde chicks chest...wowser!
tvtator 11/15/2003
I don't know if I like this one better or Police Academy 4 where they act like a bunch of annoying goofs. Oh but it has the great Steve Guttenberg!
callmetootie 04/13/2001
I can say that I enjoyed this 1984 Guttenburg vehicle, but I can't say the same about it's sequels that somehoew put somewhat of a course on the 1st one. Steve Guttenburg and Kim Cattral star in this movie about a desperate General who hires a bunch of misfits of go to his Police Academy.
Zarbon 01/02/2001
This is a pretty good comedy. It's pretty funny and some scenes are histerical, but it doesn't have what it takes to become a five star movie. It'll never be a true classic. It's just missing too much.
level 10/18/2000
Almost as good as Airplane. Funny as hell, good jokes, good plot. I remember not liking many of the sequels as much as the 1st one.
sophia 10/10/2000
Police Academy lowered standards for police officers. It made people think less about them, but it also showed hard work.
sfreeman 10/10/2000
Very funny. I enjoy this movie so much that I can watch it over and over.
Munson 09/22/2000
This is the case study for a movie that should never have had a sequel. Police Academy was pretty funny with Steve Guttenburg in his best role other than Diner. And, Michael Winslow was the sound effects king. I also have a pretty funny story about the Police Academy series. I was in Egypt on an overnight bus trip from Cairo to Luxor and they were showing Police Academy 3 or 4 with Arabic subtitles. It's nice to see that the movies had such international success.
Wiggum 05/16/2000
This series of movies somehow managed to start idiotic and go downhill from there.
