A few funny moments. Still a lil too much chick flick for my liking.

There is a reason that Anthony Michael Hall dropped off the face of the Earth for a generation. This movie is probably it.

I met Haviland Morris (Carolyn) last year and she was such an sweetheart. Twenty seven years after Sixteen Candles she's an attractive real estate broker who when I told still had the great legs necessary to play Carolyn she laughed hysterically, blushed and thanked me. A funny, intelligent and classy lady who helped me find a studio!

"Something for everyone" is such a trite cliche, but it's never been more fitting when used to launch a descriptive salvo about this "loser to cruiser" movie from 1984. Molly Ringwald glows as Samantha Baker, a wallflower who dreams of perfect scenarios with the arrival of her sixteenth birthday (lots of presents, Trans-Am in the driveway, and her arms around the top guy in school); only problem is, her birthday gets lost in the family shuffle of planning for her sister's pending nuptials to an "oily-variety bohunk". It just gets worse from there, with unwelcome bus-bound advances from Anthony Michael Hall's mawkish geek Ted, both sets of dizzy grandparents stranding her on the sofa, and Gedde Watanabe's exchange-student/slave Long Duk Dong ("the weird Chinese guy in Mike's room"). Just when she's at her lowest (getting pressed into taking Dong to the big school dance), a bright spot appears: the guy she desires, desires her, too, and they manage to get together through a wild night of booze-drenched vandalism, mistaken identity, and cliques-and-misfits mayhem. Too many moments and scene-stealers to mention (my favorite was Justin Henry, Samantha's obnoxious little brother), so get the disc and relive them all over again.

I was about 9 years old when this film debuted. It was much funnier when i got older and understood it more. At 9 years old, you dont know much about sex, dating, and being a teenager.
