 | Molfan (57) 10/26/2007 | Very funny movie. I saw this as a teenager. I must admit I went reluctantly because a friend wanted to see the movie and I wanted to be polite. I was so glad I saw this. All the actors are great in their roles. Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, Terri Garr and Cloris Leachman all great.! Nd so is Madeleline Kahn. One of my favorite scenes is after young Frankenstein created a new Frankenstein the monster escapes and ends up at a blind man's house {well played by Gene Hackman}.A lot of other funny scenes too. For a good laugh i would reccomend this movie.

 | Spike65 (11) 08/24/2007 | I enjoy most of Mel Brooks work and I think this film is his very best. I'm not going to single out any actor as they were all perfect in their respective roles. Not only the best Black and White comedy ever, but might be the best Frankenstein movie as well. Certainly the most entertaining version.

 | MDStewart (10) 03/02/2007 | One of the very best comedies of all time, with some of the best comedians of all time. No one does it better than Mel Brooks, and when teamed up with the likes of Gene Wilder, you can't go wrong. I can watch this movie over and over and still get a good laugh!

 | Jeremy00081 (5) 09/14/2006 | Here's another comedy that's almost perfect. Again, I have to give a little less than a perfect score, because some of the intended comedy made me roll my eyes. The funny parts are VERY funny, though, so I give this 4 and a half stars.

 | FranksWildYears (48) 05/10/2006 | An exceptional case of a movie parody that pays loving homage and at the same time has terrific fun skewering its subject. Mel Brooks was at his peak as a film maker in the early 70's and Young Frankenstien is his crowning achievement.

 | Silver Eagle 252 (8) 04/02/2006 | Even Mary Shelley would have a good laugh at this movie. A Mel Brooks classic. The cast works exceptionally well together. It's become our annual halloween night movie.

 | Robbo59 (13) 01/20/2006 | Using the original sets from the classic Universal Frankenstein movies, Gene Wilder as Frederick Frankenstein ("That's Fronkensteen.") creates his monster with the aid of his sexy blonde lab assistant Inga (Teri Garr), and his bumbling, bug-eyed, hunchback Igor (Marty Feldman.) Mel Brooks' was huge in the year 1974 as he released his two most noted films 'Young Frankenstein' and 'Balzing Saddles' to the delight of comedy fans everywhere. Here he parodies the original 'Frankenstein', 'The Bride of Frankenstein', 'Son of Frankenstein', and 'The House of Frankenstein' with a few musical comedy numbers thrown in for good measure. Madeline Kahn, Kenneth Mars, and Gene Hackman provide a series of hilarious send-ups as Elizabeth, (Frederick's fiance) police inspector Kemp, and the blind man, while Peter Boyle uses grunts, growls, and facial expressions to breathe life into his portrayal of "the Monster." Wilder is his usual sometimes calm, sometimes exasperated self as he attempts to interact with this group of crazies and use his genius to carry on with his famous relative's work. Cloris Leachman is a laugh riot as the former girlfriend of the senior Frankenstein and current housekeeper for the castle. One of the best comedies of all time and well worthy of it's lofty rating among the entries here. Do yourself a huge favor and see view this film. You might pick up a copy of 'Blazing Saddles' and make it a double-feature.

 | Andrew Gilmore (10) 10/28/2005 | I just watched this movie tonight for the first time in at least 8 or 9 years. It's probably Mel Brooks' funniest movie. The whole cast- manic Gene Wilder, grotesquely funny Peter Boyle, cute, naive Terri Garr, deadpan Cloris Leachman, offbeat, incoherent Kenneth Mars and the late Marty Feldman and Madeline Kahn- all turn in great, hilarious performances. It runs out of steam a little towards the end, but overall it's still one of the damn funniest movies I've ever seen, and it certainly holds up after thirty years.

 | sfalconer (21) 06/12/2005 | Help me with the bags? You take the blond I'ill take the one in the Turbin. A classic line from a great movie, Gene Wilder, Mary Feldman, Terri Garr, Madeline Kahn and Peter Boyle. All at the mercy of Mel Brooks. How could this not be funny.

 | James76255 (17) 06/12/2005 | The first movie I have a memory of seeing in a theater, which might well explain a lot. It never really got the cult status of other movies, but it is a fond memory of mine and still a funny movie today.

 | alpepper (21) 03/18/2005 | Amongst comedy movies, this is the equivalent of The Godfather. Mel Brooks' greatest movie, by far. I must have seen it at least a dozen times, and I still convulse when I hear the horse neigh and winny whenever the name Blucher is said. It's in my Top-5, with Animal House, Caddyshack, Airplane, and Holy Grail (Amazing that all of my Top-5 are all 25 years or older).

 | Blanco~Nino (0) 08/29/2004 | Fantastic movie, full of classic lines such as what knockers and werewolf--werewolf? there wolf, there castle. However, the movie is very lopsided. Nothing funny happens after the first 30-45 minutes.

 | snlgirl (0) 08/29/2004 | Sometimes I see a movie from the seventies or earlier and I think to myself this was probably a lot funnier back then This is one of those movies. It's still funny, but I think a lot of it is outdated and not as funny as other classic comedies like the monty python movies and caddyshack.

 | Badunsgirl (0) 06/26/2004 | This movie was great I like how even though they had movies in color then I like how it's in black and white cause it gives it the old monster movie feel.
It's also a very funny movie, I like the dance scene and I like how the wife of the guy falls in love with Frankenstein. I love Igor's eyes they are so funny! this movie is a comedy classic very good movie indeed.

 | Yorthan (0) 04/13/2004 | Mel Brooks is a genius. So is Gene Wilder. And Terri Garr is just fun to look at. (We won't mention Feldman.)
Anyway, I can't think of another black-and-white monster movie that's made me laugh more often than this one.
*wolf howls*
Inga: Werewolf!
Dr. Frankenstein: Werewolf?
Igor *points*: There. There wolf. There castle.
Dr. Frankenstein: Why are you talking like that?
Igor: I thought you wanted to.
Dr. Frankenstein: No.
Igor: *shrug* Suit yourself. I'm easy.

 | Jason1972 (3) 11/14/2002 | It's one of those rare instances where all of the cast played great performances. The late Marty Feldman as Igor and Peter Boyle as the monster is timeless comedy.

 | lukskywlkr. (3) 10/23/2002 | This is one very funny movie and the cast is truly inspired. They really seem to be having as much fun as the audience and they really make it a memorable movie. The characters like Frankenstein, Igor, Frau Bleucher and the monster are a riot. Madeline Khan and Terri Garr are wonderful as well.

 | Enrique Sanchez (0) 10/14/2002 | If there is such a thing as the perfect cast with the perfect script with the perfect director and a in a perfectly memorable delight of a comedy, THIS IS IT.
Almost 30 years from its release and people can quote line for line of this gem - and STILL laugh.
Now that's what I call a masterpiece.
"Frau Blucher!"....."neigh...."

 | Potch1214 (0) 04/23/2002 | One of the best comedies ever made. I have seen it about 40 times and I still laugh at it. Gene Wilder's Dr. Frankenstein is hilarious as a straight man in a world of comics. Marty Feldman shines as Eye-gor (Hump? What hump?). Peter Boyle expresses so much while barely having any lines. But Gene Hackman's blind cleric steals it all, as does Madeleine Kahn's virginal fiance. A must see for anyone, you'll laugh yourself silly.

 | Solenoid DH (19) 04/15/2002 | Although it doesn't have a lot of foul language, it has enough to bother me, so I deducted a star. Other than that, what a GREAT comedy. I've always liked Gene Wilder and Teri Garr (for different reasons, obviously), and Marty Feldman is even good in this one. Some of the best humor emerges when you take a putatively "sober" subject and poke fun at it.

 | MedgarEvers (14) 12/24/2001 | All-star cast, hilarious parody. Full of memorable scenes and on-going jokes that somehow don't get old-- whenever someone utters "Frau Brugher" (sp?)... Gene Wilder gets to do plenty of yelling and acting insane, which is what he does best. When you're in the right mood, this is a hilarious movie.

 | stooge (0) 08/02/2001 | This may be my favorite Mel Brooks movie. I love the whole classic horror movie feel that we get from it being filmed in black and white. I also enjoy seeing Marty Feldman in one of his best performances. Sight gags abound, and in the sceen where the doctor brings the monster to life they used many of the electrical props from the original Frankenstein movie. This movie features a great cast and is worth buying for your home collection.

 | jbiscuit1 (0) 06/20/2001 | I am a great fan of Mel Brooks, but this is not one of my favorites of his. The film is shot entirely in black and white, and is quite funny. However, the movie becomes a bit tedious in the middle. This is, though, the best Frankenstein sequel I have ever seen, and highly recommend watching it at least once. If you are a fan of Mel, you've probably already seen this, but if you haven't you may enjoy it. Marty Feldman is funny, and Gene Hackman is surprisingly good, but other parts of the movie just don't seem to mesh well. I prefer to a much greater extent, The Producers, Blazing Saddles or History of the World Part I, but this film has its place in any Mel Brooks collection.

 | callmetootie (4) 04/11/2001 | Young Frankenstein is an extremly funny movie that stars Gene Wilder as Dr. Frankenstein who creates yet another monster, and has this hunchback named Igor working for him, and the monster wants to be loved, and when they create the bride she wants "some good-hot lovin", and the monster doesn't like her so he runs away and goes to this shack where this blind guy is making espresso, but the monster doesn't like it so he runs away again, and finds that the Doctor is eating lots of Kippers, and he likes them.
