2 children from a Swedish acting family have to live with a cruel stepfather,a religious minister, when their father dies.If this plot outline sounds like the great director Ingmar Bergman's trademark Nordic gloom, think again;his masterful final(multi-Oscar winning)film is a real heart warmer, full of joyful spirit, much of it centring on Christmas celebrations.A grand, fitting monument to a celebrated career;glowingly photographed, shot through with humanity and even sprinkled with a little magic!

This movie is clear magic, and the director, Ingmar Bergman, is a creator of real magic. I loved the way the music, slowly slowly just poors throughout the story. And how he explains the carachters to gently. I love this movie! It´s so fasinating to see how they make swedish christmas so alive! And, Janey_Lane, you´re right. If you´re not over trhe record, you haven´t broke it. GO GIRL!

Something that has ticked me off since Oscar nigth though is that all I hear is that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has the record for most wins for a foreign language film. WRONG!!! Fanny and Alexander also won four Oscars. And since Crouching tiger... didn't win five their 'record' doesn't exist. Fanny and Alexander still hold the record and that's that.
