Looking at the reviews so far, I'm thinking you have to be an Australian to truly appreciate the magic and comedy behind this film. (We Aussie's have a subtle, sarcastic sense of humour at times!). Every other Australian I know absolutely adores this film. It is a classic. So much fun and so funny. Barry Fyfe is a legend - the name alone sends me into stitches!

Delightfully cheesy fun. Makes one wish Baz Luhrman stayed in Australia and stuck to small-budget films as he has yet to helm another film as good.

A nicely done movie from Australia. Baz Luhrman directed one of his first movies with this one. A young man who has been trained for years in dancing to win the big competition in ballroom dancing. The problem is he wants to dance his way not the strict ballroom dancing rules. His partner quits in frustration and he gets a new partner named Fran a shy plain Jane who is willing to dance on his terms. They practice and develope a sweet friendship with each other. Of course there is trouble when Scott's mother who has raised him all his life to be a champion tries to force him to dance with someone else. The ending is great. this is one of those likable movies where I found myself rooting for Scott and Fran to win.

This movie is the best! It's one of my favourites. It being about a dancing competition doesn't sound very appealing at first but this movie is more than just dancing. The relationship between the two main characters is sweet and you really want them to be together.
