Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Mujeres al Borde de un Ataque) 5

Why can't I give this hilarious  film six stars?

UPDATE:

Almodovar is John Waters' only real competition, with the possible exception of Terry Gilliam.

This is, for me, the movie which defines Pedro Almodovar's style. I don't think Atame and Tacones reach this level of frenetic comedy. Enjoy the ride, and don't eat the gazpacho!

One of Almodovar's best and one of the funniest movies ever made. Carmen Maura is outstanding as the harried and much put-upon protagonist.

This movie is trademark Almodocar. Crazy, distrubing, touching, but hilarious. Including Almovodar regularas like Carmen Maura, and a 20 something Antonio Banderas, this movie is about women on the verge.....and women in love. While the basis of the story line isn't original (a woman getting dear johned by her her lover for someone else (ironically, she was "the other woman" with this guy too.) How she reacts to it, and the steps she takes to finally confront him are what the movie is about, and that is where things get crazy. This was the first movie by Almodovar that I'd ever seen, and I became and instant fan.

The film which really stamped the distinctive Almodovar on the international map;still his most famous(along with the more mature Ocar-winning All About my Mother),and Spain's biggest success.Osscar and British Academy nominee,New York Critics' Best Foreign Language film.A typically confident, frenetic, sexy, but hardly subtle farce,a gaudy, glamorous, cool concoction- like spicy spiked gazpacho with a fresh citrus zing.(Look for a young Antonio Banderas.)

I don't thing this was one of Almodovar's best films but very entertaining and funny. He also did Tie Me Up Tie Me Down (also good) as well as few others that escape me right now. I think he also did Boca a Boca (pretty good). Oh he also did "what have I done to deserve this" this is interesting but if you're not into interesting and just want funny etc. this isn't the one, it has a lot of those "hmm this is getting sort of odd moments". As for Women on the Verge..it was fun and I'd watch it again. Ah wait High Heels that was a good one toooooo.
