Better than the Star Trek films which came before it, but not as good as JJ's new one which has rebooted the franchise.Still worth watching, and has a brilliant score.

A bit pretentious and over-blown but I enjoyed it on the big screen. Some interesting twists.

Another lame attempt to deal with the paradox of time travel, there were too many loose ends left. But the concept was quite original and the story kind of captivating. Of course, we may be too biased by all the other Trek films and series as to objectively evaluate this release. Overall a good movie.

This movie is easily one of the most incredible movies of all-time. Perhaps the best of all Star Trek movies, First Contact brings back the feared enemy introduced in Q, Who? and Best of Both Worlds, The Borg! Instantly, a new Enterprise is revealed and the Soverign-class is an incredible design. The battle scene towards the beginning (which introduces the Akira, Norway, and Steamrunner class vessels!) is absoultely amazing as well. The plot is classic Trek--the evil Borg have traveled back in time to assimilate humanity before the founding of the Federation and our heroes must stop them. The action is taut throughout and well balanced with clever bits of comedy and even a moment that comes close to breaking the fourth wall (So, your all astronauts on...on some kind of Star Trek?) The Roddenberry humanism is present as well, with references to humanity conquering poverty, war, and strife, in addition to evolving beyond money. Not slowing down a bit, the movie rushes to a great finish. The musical score (including the classic Star Trek: TNG theme) is consistently enjoyable throughout as well.

First contact is the best Star Trek movie. Hands down. Great Acting, interesting storyline and the best special effects so far. This movie has everything. You laugh (a drunken Troy) you cry (Data finding his cat, so sad) and action. I will never get tired of watching this movie.

Although it wasn't as good as generations, it was still interesting. The only problem with Star Trek now is there theme is getting a bit boring. When ever they can't think of a good episode to write, they just put the Borg in. Data was funny how he beat the borgs, Picard was his usual good self. But Counsellor Dianna Troy was a let down. She was acting like one of those pub bimbos rather then this respectable Command Officer. At times, it did get a bit boring.

Not fit to hold Wrath of Khan's jockstrap. The only reason this movie (or any of the later movies, especially the old Trek/TNG crossovers) succeed is that there is a nation of pasty, maladjusted Trekkies out there sustaining that industry from the comfort of their parents' basements. I like Trek too, especially because it is such a deeply detailed subject, but these movies are just pander.

Same crap different movie. Make it stop.

the best of the star trek sreies of flims(sorry warth of khan fans) my only wish is that borg battle with starfleet had have been longer and more drawn out. you never get a real sense of a fleet going into battle and the different commands and starships. other then that i liked this movie alot and the secondary actors such as james cromwell, alfrie woodward and alice krige gave this one the feel of a big screen movie and not an extension of next generation episode. overall though a pretty good movie.

I had mixed feelings the first couple of times I watched this. On one hand, I enjoyed seeing the crew again on the big screen, but the Borg plotline wasn't what I was used to in the Trek films. However, I have watched it several times since, and I like it more each time. What makes the movie for me is Alice Krige who plays the Borg Queen. She is flat out great in this role. I wish we could have seen more of her.

Not quite as good as 2,3, and 4, but certainly better than the rest of the Trek movies. This is the last of the "Passing the Torch" trilogy (6,7,8) and the first all-TNG feature. And it has everything: adventure, suspence, comedy, drama; an absolutely fun Trek movie all the way through. (Epcharles, your review's misplaced --heh)

I have no doubts this is the best star trek movie yet

Completely disappointing from a Star Trek history point of view. The Borg queen is an insult to the series. The uniforms were disappointing.

I think this movie was soooo boring. I fell asleep during the first ten minutes of the movie. Me and my friend only rented that movie because we saw everything else already.

Arguably the best Star Trek movie in the series, First Contract embodies the whole essence of the show. Determination, exploration, survival against devastating odds- this movie has it all. Definitely a "must see."
NLSFC 96 12/11/2000
This was the best Star Trek movie of all time. It had a good storyline about the Borg and the acting was terrific. There was a lot of good action and exciting sequences. It was good not only to Star Trek fans but also to the average movie goer.
Epcharles 11/30/2000
A desperate attempt to find any excuse imaginable to put Kirk and Picard on the same screen. The plotline is a stretch, even for Star Trek and it is not entirely consistant with some of the Next Generation plot lines. But it's Star Trek, so I can't go lower than a 3.
hand full of tities 11/24/2000
I like the idea of the Borg and the New Enterprise. But there was not enough space battles. The plot sucks compared to Star Trek VI. It sucks how Captin Kirk is dead and also there weren't enough computer generated action scenes.
dalai 11/06/2000
I'm not sure why, but all the Next Generation movies just sucked. I liked every one of the old movies, and Star Trek: Next Generation was cool, the Generations movie was good, but starting with First Contact and Voyager, Star Trek just started to suck.
lietmook 11/02/2000
Better than any of the classic Trek movies (except perhaps IV), good solid plot/character interest, and a minimum of "one-liner" jokes that plague some Trek films.
Spiralingmarce 07/13/2000
FAKE!
artbuf 03/19/2000
Except for the glaring oversites (Such as using the deflector dish to emit chronoton particles at the end of the movie...I guess they forogt they shot it off into space and blew it up)
