Biily Wilder's best film, followed closely by Stalag 17 and The Apartment. As others have said previously, Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and E.G. Robinson turn in great performances in possibly the best Film noir of all-time. If you have not seen this excellent picture you need to join NETFLIX and rent this one ASAP, it will not disappoint.

Film noir classic starring a grim Fred MacMurray that all those who know him only from "My Three Sons" on TV should view. Like many films from this period, it has the relentless wisecracking between males and females as well as various plot improbabilities, but it also has plenty of atmosphere, stellar acting, and magnificent direction by Billy Wilder. Even when uncharacteristically restrained in his interpretation of a character, as he seems to be here, Edward G. Robinson was one of America's great actors. MacMurray is also superb and Stanwyck, not necessarily someone I think of when a list is being compiled of sexy, beautiful actresses, literally oozes incendiary sex appeal here. A must see.

The best movie Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyck ever made. Great film noir with plenty of twists and turns to the plot.

I really like this movie. It has a decent cast with Fred McMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson. I'm not a big fan of Stanwyck and I feel she over acted and hammed it up in many of her movies, but in this case, perhaps because of the overly dramatic personality of her character, she nailed the role. Poor Fred got suckered into commiting murder for this femme fatale and ultimately is found out by his boss and friend, played by Robinson. Good story.

well acted movie. with Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyk. weird to see MacMurray as a bad guy. so used to seeing him on MY Three sons. interesting plot. only thing dated is the language. and phrases. but good movie otherwise.

Why this classic is not in the Top Five I cannot imagine. All 3 stars should have won Oscars that year. Incredible that MacMurray and Robinson were not even nominated, and that was the year that Bing Crosby and Barry Fitzgerald won!! Another miscarriage of justice was Barbara Stanwyck losing to the grossly overrated Bergman.

"I'm crazy about you, baby!" says Fred Macmurray passionately to Barbara Stanwyck. This may explain why he throws caution to the wind to develop an ingenious plot to murder her husband and collect the insurance money. The kind of thriller typically described as "atmospheric", Double Indemnity is a satisfying tale of suspense and murder with wonderful performances from the two leads and the ever-reliable Edward G Robinson. Billy Wilder directs skillfully and Miklos Rozsa supplies the brooding musical score. Has some wonderful moments - not to be missed!
