Love Natalie, Edmun Gwinn, and Maureen O'Hara. Another movie that didn't do that well when first released. It has become a holiday classic. Black and White only please.

Excellent 1947 movie; I rate it only 4 cuz frankly, it is not a Great as in epic sense. It is pretty standard fare. But as far as a Christmas movie, the 47 cannot be beaten. Some other versions have been made - the last 1 was very good, too, shockingly, but others were lousy - but this 1 for starters had Edmund Gwen. This man is extremely believable as Kris Kringle. He truly is, as Natalie Wood said, so kind and nice and jolly; he's not like *any1* else - he MUST be Santa Claus! He is perfect, w/perfect natural beard and belly - neither overwrought as the standard view of Claus is - and w/perfect attitude and persona. I figure this is just Gwen - watch all his dog movies (man, he must have loved dogs). He's just a kindly, good-natured, cheerful, well-mannered, selfless chap! But I digress. The other actors here were excellently believable as well, and still likable even if we knew they weren't quite rite like Kris.

Really a 4.5. A very sweet story about a man who claims to be Santa Claus. Edmund Gwynne is wonderful as the kindly old man who says he is Santa some believe him some do not one thing leads to another and he is put on trial and his lawyer friend must find a way to prove this man is Santa. Natalie Wood was adorable as the 7 yr old whose mother had taught her not to believe in fantasy, and so is Maureen O'Hara as the mom and nonbeliver{at first} I always like to see this at Christmas. A well acted feel good movie. the 1947 version is the best.

This movie isn't bad- It is amuzing to see Santa Clause be real cause he is not. So a setting of real life with Santa Clause being real is cool in this kind of setting

The cutest Christmas movie ever!

Natalie Wood is adorable in this movie, but she's more than just the cute little kid, she can really act too!

I was never much in to Santa because I always felt he was a distraction from the true meaning of Christmas, which is the birth of Christ. But how can I possibly not like a movie like this? Especially when it has a wonderful little Natalie Wood!

Delicate and sweet, not too much, and it permits to discover Nathalie Wood as a child. But maybe I prefer the remake with Perkins and McDermott.

Love this movie. I agree with Zarbon, black/white version is better than color. A great classic.

A classic that will never die. The black and white version is much better than the newer version. A great movie for every Christmas!
