Marylin Monroe and two guys in drag make for a very funny mix.

One of Wilder's best films. Tony Curtis was a great admirer of Cary Grant. When he was pretending to be the rich tycoon he admitted he was doing the part the way he though Cary would do it.  Fun movie, great cast, sharp writing, well directed.

As close to a comedic masterpiece as you're likely to find. Jack Lemmon is hilarious, and Tony Curtis, if possible, is even funnier, perhaps because it's so unexpected that he would excel in a part like this (although I've always thought that Curtis, along with Robert Mitchum, is a vastly under-rated actor; I've found him to be enormously effective in a variety of parts). I should mention that, aside from a pre-adolescent infatuation, I've never been a really big fan of Marilyn Monroe. I've never felt she was ever more than an adequate actor, and I don't subscribe to the prevailing notion that she was the sexiest woman on the planet. That being said, I've never seen her look sexier or more enticing than she does here; she's absolutely luscious, and it's chilling to contemplate while watching her here that she was only a few short years away from her death. The supporting cast is wonderful, as well-- George Raft, Pat O'Brien, Joe E. Brown, Joan Shawlee (she used to be a regular on the old "Abbott and Costello" TV-show and I always thought she was both sexy and hilarious), Nehemiah Persoff, etc. This is a highly-entertaining, joyously light-hearted, visually-striking (I'll  take crisp black-and-white cinematography over dull color any day...kudos here to Charles Lang) motion picture that has aged very well, and if they were still making comedies like this, I might still be going to the movie theatre and paying admission to see the most recent production, rather than renting or buying a DVD of an old-time classic like this.

One of the first movies that I saw as a child and it kind of stuck with me. The very first thing I remember about this movie is Marilyn Monroe. She seemed so beautiful and so feminine. People were raving about her all the time and over the movie itself. This movie carried a very innocent and naturally funny story. Nowadays, comedies are all the same. At least for me they are, and they are more silly and mindless, rather than being actually funny.

Not a frame or a line too many. A classic how-to-make-a-comedy script, regarding a silly premise, perfect casting, great editing in the hands of a master comedy director.

Great performances by Lemmon, Monroe, and to everyone's surprise Curtis. George Raft is great as the villain, and a lot of strong performances by supporting cast.

Hysterically funny. The kind of film that made Hollywood Hollywood. Tony Curtis looked so at ease in a dress and pumps.

A superb and hilarious movie with underlying sexual themes with out being too blunt, over the top or even too subtle for that matter. Wonderful casting of Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, Marilyn Monroe, George Raft and Joe E. Brown. Lemmon may have the energy, but Curtis is my personal favorite. Clever, witty and he does a dead on impression of Cary Grant. One of the funniest movies of all time.

This one is still ahead of today. The one-liners and racy dialogue alone are first-rate! Curtis is really great as a spoof of Cary Grant - men can learn a lot from how he seduces Marilyn, believe it or not. Lemmon is also great - his spastic energy makes the movie purr wonderfully. I'm amazed at the sexual candor. Like Breakfast at Tiffany's, Psycho, and other great movies from the beginning of the 60s, Hollywood was just beginning to explore sex in an adult way. The end line is classic. Anytime you see 2 straight adult male friends in drag (Bosom Buddies), you're seeing this movie.

This film has its ardent and fluttering fans, but it's just not in the same league as these others above it, and BELOW it. As far as being voted the funniest film in our galaxy, or whatever, try watching "Night at the Opera" or maybe "To Be or Not to Be", with Jack Benny. I'm NOT saying SLIH isn't funny...it is. But it isn't great comedy.

“Nobody’s perfect,” says its famous last laugh. But this scintillating comedy is! Wilder and Diamond’s script, which springs out of Chicago’s infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre of 1929, alarmed bosses, who predicted outrage and disaster. At the time, mixing female impersonation, romantic comedy and murder stretched the limits of taste and genre formula. But when Wilder put together gangsters, wise-cracking, cross-dressing heroes and Marilyn Monroe, he wrought a laugh riot played by an inspired cast. Key to its success - along with its vivid characters and brilliant performances - is the snappy pace throughout. Non-stop gags, invention, twists and comic incident flow, as Joe and Jerry -brilliant Curtis and screamingly funny Lemmon - elude mob boss George Raft by wriggling into an all-girl jazz band, with Josephine and Daphne’s legendary drag act taking in amorous adventures, seductive deceptions and madcap pursuits. Wilder never wastes time explaining the obvious. One minute, for instance, Joe affects a falsetto on the phone to line up the job with Sweet Sue and Her Society Syncopators; next shot we’re following well-muscled calves tottering down a railway platform, the men’s transformation self-evident, and the more startling for it. Among the highlights: Sugar singing Running Wild; Daphne and millionaire Osgood’s tango; Curtis’ impersonation of Cary Grant; and Daphne’s engagement announcement, while Lemmon, on the bed, shakes his maracas in an absurd ecstasy, is a masterpiece of comic timing. Wilder’s comedy frequently exhibits a vulgar streak, but this is tempered by his Viennese elegance and elevated by his and Diamond’s collaborative, mischievous wit. Summary: ONE OF THE FUNNIEST FILMS EVER MADE!!!

Justifiably the current #1 in the classic movies section, and absolutely the greatest ever comedy.Scintillating Wilder-Diamond script,Curtis doing his best Cary Grant impression,Monroe(an underrated comic actress)radiant as ever. And the late Jack Lemmon's clearly having a ball. Among so many marvellous scenes,i particularly love the one where "Sugar" and the rest of the girl band clamber into his bunk on that train ride made in heaven. The film's not aged a bit;it's priceless.Having just seen it for about the seventh time, this is one case where familiarity breeds content.

A truly uproarious slapstick comedy from the late 50s, Some Like it Hot provides humor on all ends of the spectrum, but is never really dirty! From physical slapstick, verbal jokes, subtle flirt humor and ridicoulous situations. It would be almost impossible not to laugh at least once during this classic!

Definitely one of the best comedies ever. Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis are very impressive, and Marilyn Monroe, for once, does a good job. I would definitely recommend it.

Out of all of the choices for classic movies on this site, Some Like It Hot, should be #1. It was rated the funniest movie ever made every single time at the AFI awards, and it deserves full credit. It's an extremly funny movie, and Marilyn Monroe does an excellent job. It introduces us to nice, crude humor and putting men in drag can be funny, it teaches us throughout the movie. It has great make up effects, and is pretty high budget for it's time, and it seems like none of the humor is outdated.

Some Like it Hot was amusing and a joy to watch. Drag queens being very unaccepted, the guys dressing as women proved most entertaining. Marilyn Monroe's character was so ignorant and dumb, though, it came close to taking away from the movie.
