Top Gun

I wanted to like this. But, Tom Cruise ruined it for me. His character was supposed to be one of the best, but when he went to Top Gun, he made tons of mistakes and did not obey the rules. He came off as arrogant for no reason. He's sort, he has a big nose, and there didn't seem to be any reason the hot blond instructor would be interested in him at all. The part where Goose dies seemed an afterthought. They just needed to get him out of the movie so the focus would be on Tom Cruise.

I enjoyed this movie, I found it fun and intense.

Why is this the top rated action film on the list? I considered it a black comedy, as it made war into a game that only one person sucked at, and the fearsome skills of a fighter pilot were somehow placed in the hands of a girl's volleyball team. I watched the entire film once because I couldn't find my remote. It turns out, I was sitting on the damn thing and my level of discomfort was already such that I didn't notice the foreign object. Can't wait to watch Tony Scott's 'Unstoppable'. Maybe I'll ram a model train up my ass.

Once again, irishgit fails to appreciate true art. Who could forget the thrilling, life changing moment when Tom Skerritt whispers, "This kid's gooood!"

A decent movie, just never was a Cruise fan. Not really a chick flick type guy either. Which this movie sort of was.

The story was old, tired and predictable. And it was almost torture to have to sit and look at Tom Cruise and his pompous, egotistical character through the whole thing. I knew everything that was going to happen before it happened. The idea of Tom Cruise playing the part of a hot, studly fighter pilot was laughable. The only reason I watched this was because I loved the flying scenes and the music.

All time fav.

When I first saw it, I would never have guessed somebody as cool as Maverick would one day preach on tv about attention deficit disorder and jump up and down on Oprah's couch.
