 | Molfan (57) 04/17/2008 | I am not usually a fan of thriller movies. This one was good. Anthony Hopkins was great a s Hannibal Lector. A psychiatrist who is in jail for murdering people and eating them. Yet he has a brilliant mind about understanding the minds of killers. There is another serial killer on the lose who kidnaps women skins them and kills. them . Jodie fosters plays Clarice who is hired to investigate the crimes and help find the killer. She goes to Hannibal who is in maximum security to talk with Hannibal to help find the killer. he agrees help so he can be transferred.there are some good chillingly frightening scenes in this movie between Hannibal, Clarice and tracking down the next serial killer who we do get to see,{ a real freakof a guy and the actor Ted Levine, who ended up on Monk playing Leland Stottlemeyer}as thrillers go this was a pretty well done movie.

 | TeresaG (29) 04/17/2008 | I love scary films ~ not so much the physically ~ more the mentally. This flick, more than frightened me ~ it terrified. I checked every single closet and both bathrooms in my apartment. Still couldn't sleep for a few nights. And Holy Cats ~ don't get me thinking about it again because I now have a house with a basement and attic.

 | Stabris7 (0) 08/08/2007 | Wonderful thru and thru. Anthony and Jodie as well as the others really did this film justice. Magnificent acting, directing, etc. Some of the greatest lines remembered and the way they were delivered...priceless! The process of a Rookie FBI agent in training...thru to the end was very gripping!

 | Victor83 (35) 07/30/2007 | I am obviously in the minority here, but I have never understood the massive appeal of this movie. Granted, Anthony Hopkins is one of the all-time heavyweights- for that I will go 2. But Jodie Foster, in my opinion, couldn't act her way out of a parking ticket. And with memorable lines like "it puts the lotion on the skin"....sheesh! Watch 30 minutes of any Kevin Costner flick, then turn on CNN. At least you will save the cost of a DVD.

 | Skimmer (1) 12/05/2006 | Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins team up and give us Silence of the Lambs. It follows the horrible crimes of a serial killer that skins his victims.
Hopkins plays Dr Habbible Lecter and a very young Jodie Foster plays Clarise Starling an FBI officer in training.
Takes one to know one, the FBI sends Officer Starling to try and get information out of Lecter to help their case...

 | trebon1038 (62) 07/13/2006 | I read the book just weeks before this movie came out and was very impressed with how close to the book it was. Anthony Hopkins was superb as Hannable and Jody Foster was awsome too. It was one of those movies that when I left the theater was in a daze.

 | edt4 (99) 02/22/2006 | Well done, although, speaking from a strictly personal point of view, I've become more than tired of and bored with Hollywood's facile, almost voyeuristic fascination with serial killers. Also, and I mean to take nothing away from the great Anthony Hopkins, but I thought Irish actor Brian Cox gave a much more subtle, nuanced performance playing the same role in the film "Manhunter."

 | decalod85 (10) 12/04/2005 | All the praise Anthony Hopkins got was deserved. He somehow manages to be menacing even though he is behind a wall of plexiglass. Jodie Foster is very good as the ambitious FBI agent, who uses and gets used by a devious serial killer.

 | Da Minx (1) 10/04/2004 | No wonder this film sweeped the board at the Oscars. Hopkins is fantastic in this. His stone cold stare is chilling in itself. The Hopkins/Foster partnership is gripping. Excellent plot and well written. The other lambs prequel and sequels haven't quite cut it for me. This film will have it's place at the top of the all time greats forever.

 | Redoedo (39) 08/28/2004 | As a thriller, The Silence of the Lambs certainly serves its purpose. A fine script with a solid cast. Hopkins gave an especially chilling performance as the evil but brilliant Dr. Hannibal Lector. Overall, the film managed to keep my attention and never seemed to slow down. A solid five-star thriller.

 | VirileVagabond (32) 02/06/2004 | Released in 1991 and directed by Jonathan Demme, Silence Of The Lambs is a combination horror, mystery and thriller movie that takes the viewer through the criminal mind. For the uninitiated, the story revolves around young FBI agent Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) who is assigned to help capture a mysterious serial killer named Buffalo Bill who is murdering young women for their skins. Eventually, she must interview the brilliant, yet utterly evil psychologist and cannibal Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins). While Starling is trying to get into the head of Buffalo Bill, she must attempt to keep Lecter out of her own. This movie was perfectly cast, written and directed as evidenced by the film's sweep of the five major Oscar categories; nevertheless, what makes this film effective is that the horror is so tangible and believable and that the cinematography makes the scenes feel cold and wet like early November.

 | kolby1973 (32) 02/05/2004 | This movie was thrilling from beginning to end. Very few dull spots, and Jodie Foster is so believable in her character that it gave me goose bumps. While I normally do not care for movies that involve serial killers, this movie is a MUST-SEE for those seeking a good Jodie Foster movie. It can be kinda scary at times as well. Not a recommended movie for children however.

 | jbiscuit1 (0) 08/01/2003 | While Red Dragon comes close, this movie is by far the best in the saga. Jodie Foster adds significant depth to the role of Agent Starling, and Anthony Hopkins is excellent as Hannibal Lecter. This movie was made prior to the great grusome fest made by Ridley Scott, so you will find the gore toned down, and the psychological suspense turned way up.

 | Jason1972 (3) 10/30/2002 | A movie that put Johnathan Demme on the map. It might've been too grizzly in nature to win Best Picture (oddly, a whole year and a month after its release) but with riveting perfomrances by Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, this movie couldn't have never been ignored.

 | antondatree (0) 04/24/2002 | Wow. I was blown away by this film. It's one of the greatest crime/thriller films ever made: the performances from Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter and Foster as Clarice Starling make it more the more haunting experience. Hopkins Lecter with his wide eyes and soft voice is chilling and frightening, the way it's directed, the absolutely BRILLIANT Oscar-winning script from Ted Tally, I bought this movie on VHS because it was so good. I highly recommend it, to everybody (over 16). Even if they get scared easy.
Summary: A WELL-CRAFTED, FRIGHTENING, BUT GREAT EXPERIENCE. A BRILLIANT FILM.

 | oldpompous (0) 12/03/2001 | Mediocre adaptation of a brilliant book. The problem is not the script, an excellent adaptation. One problem is the pokey direction. The other problem is the performance of the two leads. Sir Anthony Hopkins is hopelessly broad as Lecter. If you want to see a great Lecter performance, check out Brian Cox in Manhunter. And Jodie Foster's constipated take of Clarice Starling is not much help either.

 | Thorne (3) 10/15/2001 | I found Silence of the Lambs to be one of the greatest horror films ever made because it works on two levels. First it is a brilliant psychological thriller and two it is a shocking bizzare and often time frightning horror film. Not to metion a breakthrough script, magnificent directing and ingenious performances from Jodie Foster and (The Man) Anthony Hopkin's as the now famed Hannibal Lector. This picture put the thriller suspence type movie goers in the same theater with Friday the Thirtenth fans. A breakthrough film through and through. HIGHL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! This is a thinking man's horror picture.

 | glorybox3 (0) 08/11/2001 | Silence of the Lambs is high on my list of greatest movies ever made. Next to the Exorcist and Shining, definently one of the best horror/thriller films. Anthony Hopkins became my favorite actor after I saw this movie because his performance was the most breathtaking of it's kinda I had ever seen. And I've yet to come across anything to rival it(I didn't see Hannibal. I read the book and thought it was disgusting. I didn't want anything to tarnish my memories of Anthony's performance or the movie.) It was just so masterfully crafted, every syllable of every word he spoke, every little time he blinked or moved his eyes, every little, rare gesture he ever made- although what made this Hannibal guy so damn scary was that he didn't move. He stood perfectly still and always gave the observer this tense sort of-when-is-he-going-to-jump-up-and-eat-somebody feeling. You kept expected him to do something like that...but he never did. Not when you expected it, anyway. That, I think, is what made the scene with the guards near the end so amazingly frightening. He became almost this animal after a whole movie of never moving, never doing anything untoward. He became likable, even, this genius sociopathic murderer. His great line about the census taker still gives me chills to this day. I could write forever about the brilliant nuances of Hannibal Lecter, but I'm commenting on the movie as a whole, so I guess that will have to wait for another time. Jodie Foster, too, gave an excellent performance, what with that West Virginia accent and her heartfelt descriptions of the screaming lambs. Something that makes this movie so brilliant though, was that besides the chaotic exchanges between Clarice and Hannibal, there was actually a really frightening almost side story about the serial killer, Buffalo Bill. Clarice's scenes in his house were so chilling, they stay with me (as does a great amount of things from this movie) to this day. Johnathan Demme did an amazing job interpreting Ted Tally's outstanding screenplay and gave a such a dark, creepy air to the whole movie. Silence of the Lambs is one of those few movies that you can watch 20 times and still get scared. If you haven't seen it, firstly-are you crazy?! do you live under a rock? and secondly, go see it!!!!! You will enjoy it, I promimse you.

 | joeAwaz (0) 05/09/2001 | What confuses me is why this is in the action section when it should be in the horror section? Strange. Anyways, this has got to be one of the best horror tales ever made for the screen! Foster & Hopkins are excellent as is Demme's direction. The atmosphere is good, the tension is unbearable and all of it's praise is well-deserved. Excellent movie!

 | cle51076 (0) 02/16/2001 | "Precious!" Jame Gumb is scary, but Hannibal Lecter's uncanny ability to read Clarice Starling is horrifying. I don't think that anyone who sees this movie will forget Sir Anthony Hopkins who plays Hannibal Lecter with such skill that it is impossible to see the difference between the actor and the character. Oscars well deserved all around!
