I remember less about the movie and more about singing "What a Feeling" in seventh grade choir. (And suddenly, I'm embarrassed to admit that I was in seventh grade choir.)

Watched it...but not my thing
FranksWildYear s 04/15/2008
Trite rags to riches dance story that could have been improved with a little nudity.
GenghisTheHun 04/15/2008
Yeah a welder by day and a dancer by night. Sure!

This is not a movie I would have seen on my own, but at the time I was working for a freelance mover whose young daughter enjoyed dancing and wanted to see it. He invited me along and, given that he was my boss, I figured it would be in my best interests to accept. I remember the movie as being pretty ridiculous, which I kind of expected; aspiring pretty dancer in Pittsburgh works in a steel mill during the day and a strip club at night. Wow, how incongruous! In the one scene I sort of remember, she's "dancing" at the strip club, where I think she was supposed to be the featured performer. Does she slither about a pole like Elizabeth Berkley? Does she sidle seductively up to a drunken ringside patron to relieve him of the few dollars he'd otherwise be spending on drinks? No; she sits on a straightback chair, a bucket of water is poured over her, and she pounds on the resultant puddles in time to the throbbing (and annoying) disco music. Now...I've never been one to patronize strip clubs, but on one or 2 occasions (a friend was getting married the next day, bachelor party, etc.), I was importuned into going...and all I can tell you is that any stripper utlilizing such a lame act in any of the clubs I was unfortunate enough to find myself in would have been unceremoniously boo'ed off the stage, out of the club, and probably out of the city. In the unreality of "Flashdance", such an insipid, unerotic "act" improbably wins the steelworker/stripper great acclaim. Yeah, sure. I also remember that the soundtrack was uniformly horrible, I left the theatre with a pounding migraine, and the leading man had an unsettling physical resemblance to Chico Marx. On a positive note, my boss' 10-year old daughter loved the movie. Then again, she liked the Smurfs too.

Is this what happens when you dance and your pants split out in the rear?
trebon1038 04/11/2008
Loved this movie. It had some very stupid parts but the over all story was good...and hey gotta love a girl who names her dog Grunt!
Drummond 01/19/2006
Gag me! In confession, "Oh father, I've been thinking about sex again." Then a half hour later in the film, "I f---ked his brains out." Yeah.
iamfromhelltoo 08/13/2005
ya whatever
kolby1973 12/28/2003
I must agree, this movie had a whole bunch of great music, but the talent just wasn't up to par as far as acting goes.....
MissMellie 12/28/2003
Acting was terrible...but at least the music was half-way decent
Moosekarloff 12/19/2003
Stupid, vapid concept with a 25 cent script, lame acting, aimless direction, frenetic and visually unappealling dancing, and a score that sounds as dated as a Bee Gees record. They even used a body double for J. Beals' tushy scenes.
callmetootie 04/05/2001
Flashdance is one extremly trashy musical, but it's soundtrack saves it from being a total loss. An inspiring dancer meets a man who teaches her how to dance, but she finds herself in a nutshell when she finds how she and him have come to fall in love, and pay more attention to making love then dancing. It's as bad as it sounds, even worse, but the soundtrack holds everything together until the end.
dalt533om 11/14/1999
Annoying songs, and worse acting.
