Wow, this film is a trip! I don't really know what to make of it as a whole, but the animation and music is mind-blowing. DEFINITELY worth checking out.

A lot of people hate this movie but really, it's not just one of those movies you watch out of the blue. You at least have to like the music (which I personally think is brilliant stuff), an understanding of Pink Floyd (a lot of the movie mirrors the mental decay of Syd Barrett) and a basic ability to anilyze what your seeing. Sure, I'll admit that it's pretty weird but that certainly is no reason to write it off as garbage. You have to think things through, what things mean. If you don't like the music in the first place, don't see it.

Ok, its a given that the movie is hard to follow. But if you would just take the time to really look at it, and read between the lines, you'll get most of it. I had to watch it four times before I got it. The basics for the movie are simple. When people get tired of all of the crap of daily life, they just want to get away from it all. In which case they will build "walls" between them and things in the outside world. Now in the case of the movie, its just telling a story of a character in a band. All of things threwout the first part of the movie are all "bricks" in his "wall." Things that have led up to his own "wall". a.k.a: his dad dieing, his mother being to overbearing, etc... The movie also contains a lot of satire, with government and what not. I would not recomend this movie to people who have a hard time "reading between the lines" if you can get past all of the jumping around the movie does, you'll be fine.

Like most of the kids my age I was totally blown away by this album and movie when they came out. While I haven't seen it in 20 years, and it may be that long since I listened to the album, I'm prettty sure that it won't have aged particularly well. On the other hand, although its grandious to the point of obesity, I'm sure if you let yourself get into it you could still enjoy the freakishness of it and admire the craft in its production.

The Wall was the greatest rock opera of all time. The animations were amazing and Bob Geldof was an excellent choice to play Pink. The movie is kind of hard to grasp at first if you have never listened to The Wall or Pink Floyd but still an excellent movie.

Pretty good music and GREAT animation. This movie made some heavy statements about war and the music business, but it's depressing.
scarletfeather 01/09/2005
This movie sucked, and the music sucked. The gist of The Wall is we should all feel sorry for this rock star because he's tired of the rat race and his dad died in World War II. There are about a million other folks who are tired of the rat race and there are plenty of people who have lost their dads and they don't go out and make abysmal pulp like The Wall. Irishgit's assertion that this movie would be fine for a high school junior's film project is dead on.

Annoying garbage. Would be just fine if this was a grade 11 film student's effort. For professionals, just appalling.

What an amazingly complex and great movie! I've seen this movie at least 30 times over the last 20 years and I always see new things and have new realizations. The DVD version with comments by Waters and Scarfe demonstrates just how much thought was put into making sure the movie stayed true to the vision and the message. Summary: The quality of the music goes without saying, The Wall is a Floyd masterpiece. The animation is powerful. The acting fills out the characters, and the entire concept, with it's stories within stories and multiple layers of meaning, stretches the mind. One caution, though, the topic is depressing, and it helps to be VERY familiar with the lyrics and music of the album before seeing the movie. Also, you really need to watch it more than once, and watch out for loops of time within other loops of time... the story line is NOT linear. ENJOY!

the meaning of the wall is that we r all in this confusion together and that killing yourself is not the way out and all people go through the same emotions and high times and low times

The first time I saw this movie, I was weirded out, but now I like it alot. Very visual and strange, and with a great soundtrack too.

A little too weird for me.

One of few movies that is actually worse than Pulp Fiction. This movie is not only boring, but it is about as close to a bad LSD trip as I ever want to come. It is seriously awful....be warned...

It was a work of art. The metaphorical invisionment on what society does to people. Pink was trying to cope with the memories of his child hood that made him what he was, and what he did wasn't good enough for society. So, he became what "The Worm" wanted, and then he was ridiculed and judged... for being human. That we should allow society's thoughts and feelings have an affect on us, and by doing that they wanted to "Tear Down The Wall"! I don't think that people should just watch this movie, they should concentrate on the message and think about it as well.

A real deep movie, Bob Geldof should've gotten an Oscar for his betrayal as an alienated rock star with a troubled childhood and adult married life. He was superb. Soundtrack is great!

One of the greatest concepts in music history. All the credit to Pink Floyd (especially Roger Waters) for coming up with such an amazing album. From that album, came a blockbuster movie. When I think of Allan Parker, Fame, Commitments may come in mind to some. However, this movie outdoes them all as far as Parker's directing skills go. Truly one for the ages.

This movie epitomizes just the propagandistic garbage that Rogar Walters wanted it to be a game! It's great however, in a gloriously inebriated state. Try it then.

Good movie, good match on the music with the cartoons. Great opportunity to experience the music. The music has created many "wanna be" bands.

Pink Floyd's, The Wall has to be one of the most well known movie and album there is. The reason for this is that it has excellent art direction and coupled with a loud stereo, it is quite captivating. I wasn't a big fan of Pink Floyd before I saw this movie, but watching it, opened me up to them.
Kid Raver 01/08/2001
This was a great film. The lights and visuals complented the music perfectly. The way the wall was slowly moving throughout the show was way cool. Building it up till only the face remains and then just music. Brilliant.

An amazing movie/music experience that must be seen multiple times (perferably in altered mind states) to be truly appreciated as the wonderful masterpiece that it is. It includes lots of symbolism and crazy animation that must be seen to be believed.
Myelin 01/05/2001
I gave this movie a 5 because I love Pink Floyd. Truth to tell, I will never ever watch this movie again. It's absolutely miserable. The animation sequences are billiant and disturbing. The structure of the movie is quite...unique. When I saw it, I left feeling confused and suicidal. According to my best friend, that qualifies an effective work of art. And yes, it is very effective. The music is amazing and makes it all worth it.

Don't listen to the stoners who think you have to be high to enjoy this movie, they're losers anyway. All you need to enjoy this movie is a brain and an appreciation for music (if you have neither, substitute a blunt and you might enjoy it also.)

The Wall is a classic. The combination of cartoons and actors and Pink Floyd's music make this movie a must-see for all. It was done in the early 80's, far beyond it's time!!

Best enjoyed with a blunt.
