This movie was ok. When Marty McFly meets Doc Brown at the Twin Pines Mall, he demonstrates how that his DeLorean/time machine works. After putting some Plutonium in his DeLorean, Doc puts his dog in it. Doc uses a remote control that sends his car one minute into the future when it reaches 88 MPH. One minute later the DeLorean reappears. He puts more Plutonium in his car and plans to go twenty-five years into the future. But Doc ripped off the Plutonium from the Libyans and somehow they find him. They shoot and kill Doc. Marty jumps in the DeLorean and drives off. When the car reaches 88 MPH, he is transported to 1955.Marty's mom met Marty's dad when her dad accidentally hit George with his car. But Marty pushes his dad out of the way and he gets hit by the car instead. This puts Marty's existence in danger. Marty must get his parents together to save himself. After having trouble with Biff, Marty's parents get together and Marty's existence is no longer in jeopardy.Even though the DeLorean needs more Plutonium to return Marty to 1985, he and the younger Doc Brown find a way to send him home. Before going home, Marty writes Doc a letter that tells him that he'll be shot and killed in 1985 but Doc tears it up.Marty goes back a few minutes earlier to warn Doc, but he fails. Doc still gets shot. While Marty is crying, Doc raises up and shows him his bullet proof jacket. At some point, Doc put the letter back together and read it.I liked this movie except for one thing. When Marty was in 1955 his younger mother had the hots for him. I thought that was really creepy. That's why I'm only giving this movie a 3 star rating.

Entertaining movie for all ages. Keep in mind the PG rating of course. One of the more competently handled time travel films to date. M.J. Fox and Chris Lloyd are great together. Plenty of humor and well done special effects.

this movie was ok, but it wasn't all that furturistic.

My favorite sci-fi, and time travel movie ever! Old or New thing would not beat BTTF!
lmorovan 04/02/2008
Time travel is a fascinating theory well exploited by the movie industry in this funny and entertaining movie.
beth82 02/18/2008
This is absolutely one of my favorite films, and maybe my very favorite sci-fi movie. It has a wonderful cast, plenty of humor, and good music.

This was a great movie for kids and adults. Even in time travel some things basically stay the same but with a different cover. There will always be bullies, nerds, ladies in distress and first kisses.
PixarFan2007 05/08/2007
a 4.5. One of my favorite movies. A kid named Marty goes back to the 50s with the help of his friend Doc's time traveling DeLorean. He meets his parents when they were teenagers.
Jeremy00081 09/13/2006
A very entertaining cast and an incredible story make this movie an absolute classic and a must-own. CL's all time best role: Doc. Funny as hell. Even the music in the film is great. I can't say enough about the film so I'll just end the review here.
doobiesNhof 03/17/2006
Robert Zimeckis' classic and the first in the trilogy. It is a fun thrill ride. Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd are fantastic.
GenghisTheHun 08/03/2005
This movie was really very clever and charming to boot. Doc was mayhe a little over the top, but that added to the fun.

I'v seen it about 4 times since it opened back in 1985. It is creative and an incredible fusion of comedy and SCI-FI. Great Catchphrases galore(McFlyyyyy). I loved the way the BTTF trilogy was able to work in Biff landing in a huge pile of s--t in every film. I watched it with my family yesterday and the kids (10 and 8) loved it. I guess the one gripe is that the movie has a lot of profanity for a PG movie. PG-13 is more appropriate. And my wife gave me copious amounts of grief about that. Like what the F--- does she want me to get them, Barney meets The Teletubbies. As if my kids haven't heard worse in school. Of course, my boy doesn't help things by calling the girl, Butthead.

This movie is amazing. The storyline is so well written and the acting is also pretty good. I just love the idea of this movie. I could watch this movie over and over again. It is by far the best of the trilogy. I can't believe this movie is already 20 years old. I remember when it came out. This is when you start feeling old.
dowland 02/23/2005
I recently bought the 3-DVD box set of this trilogy. I am *awed* and impossibly impressed to realize these movies seem to NOT HAVE AGED AT ALL. I was completely blown; because I expected it to be dated. This is especially true in two aspects: the present doesn't seem that unseemingly far away (even though it *was* 20 years ago), and most importantly the future (in BttF 2) is still futuristic--in the way that Robert Zemeckis invented a future that still seems plausible even now. I am unwaiveringly classifying these CLASSIC, MUST WATCH movies for any sci-fi fan. They can be watched and rewatched, thanks to the script of course, but to Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, who have there given the performance of a lifetime. A last, quick note; something the modern viewer will undeniably not with hindsight, is that all three movies are surprisingly continuous. It's obvious that great attention has been given to insure that these movies form a remarkably coherent trilogy. (IMHO, George Lucas sure could use the advice for Starwars)

A very fun movie! I loved that it had something for everyone. Definatly a classic!
Gentle Jude 02/16/2005
The Back to the Future series would have to be amongst my favourate movies. They are relatively clean yet funny and have a very interesting story line. Biff would have to be the funniest character, not that I condone bullies! You want to know something interesting about the character who plays Biff. Well he became a dedicated Christian and his ambition is to spread the Love of God around!
Specialboothvi cJr. 01/09/2005
It wasn't the best of the series, but still deserves a 5.
1JohnDoeFan 10/23/2004
One of my favorite movies of all time. Michael J. Fox is a terrific actor. Part 2 is not on this list which I even like just a little more... but nevertheless this movie is incredibly unique and satisfying.
Daccory 10/05/2004
I like this one the best because of it's time transport element. The heroes immediately come to mind when you hear the title.
Redoedo 09/06/2004
I loved this film and its sequels as a kid, and still like to pop them in every now and then. Overall, the Back to the Future films were fun and imaginative, and are rightfully considered to be classics.
Molfan 09/03/2004
this is about a 4.5 . I loved this movie about a teenager named Marty who is friends with a scientist. His friend has invented a time machine in a Delorean while showing Marty his time machine car, Marty ends up back in time in the mid 1950s. He gets to meet his own parents when they are teenagers. One thing leads to another and now Marty has to get his parents to attend a school dance and have them kiss by a certain time or he will disappear. I t turns out that since he went back in time it changed history. What I liked is of course his parents did end up kissing but in the future they come back different. His dad had been a geeky teen who was still kind of a geek as an adult and now he is a successful writer. real cool movie.

One great movie, great actors, lovely story
CherrySoda99 03/31/2004
This movie has a good story to it and Michael J Fox and Christopher Loyde are incredible actors. I didn't like all the amounts of swearing, but thats not going to shake my opinion very much.Because I judge a movie by the movie, not the words.Very well done. Not the best of Sci fi movies. But pretty darn close.
pikachan 01/29/2004
I liked watching Back to the Future. It had a lot of great special effects. a teen named Marty McFly goes back to the 1950s with a little help from a time-traveling Delorean made by Doc, a scientist who marty knows. he meets his parents as teens. it's a nice film.
DickWeener 01/21/2004
The best time travel movie to date. This is a true classic and could not have been better if they did anything different than what they already did. Good story line, good acting, a movie to remember.
irishgit 12/18/2003
Fun at times, but generally simple and predictable.
Byrdiohead 12/08/2003
No other film plays irony better than this one. The scene where Marty's mom kisses him near the end made me shriek with laughter. Not enough can be said about just how funny this film is. The scene where marty dresses like and alien and tells George he is Darth Vader from the planet... Vulcan with the hand gesture thrown in for emphasis, then threatens to melt his mind with Van Halen if he doesn't ask Loraine to the dance is pure gold.

I don't think it's possible to hate this movie. There were some funny moments with a lack of plot holes.
RebelYell1861 06/17/2003
To me, this is a true classic. This movie is a perfect example of a good idea for a movie produced right. And I really used to get a kick out of watching that guitar amp blow him across the room at the beginning. haha

Man alive, I love this film! When it comes to singling out which movie trilogy I personally consider to be the greatest of all 'Star Wars' and 'Lord of the Rings' (or at least what I've seen of the latter), don't stand a chance - 'Back to the Future' is the movie trilogy to put all others to shame. Subtle, witty and full of cool energy, BTTF is a sharply-directed first installment for this wonderful epic, in which eighties teenager Marty McFly gets a taste of his parents' youth when he is accidentally transported back to their time in none other than a temporal-defying Delorean car! A few ill-advised actions soon leave the plucky youth fighting against the clock to save his own future from being erased from time. The acting is flawless, Michael J Fox providing the best of the best as Marty, a loveable central character with wide appeal, and Christopher Llyod too is great as benevolant scientist Doc Brown, while the whole thing moves at a skillfully dynamic pace, loaded with some really impressive special effects (at least for its day). There are moments of pure comic genius, and poignent moments that'll make you (or at least me, anyway) want to cry. Overall, this film rates in as top notch entertainment, providing a powerful mixture of action, warmth and humour, topped off with a first-rate sountrack that really hits the spot like a coke on a hot day. Absolutely wonderful!
firegod 02/19/2003
Very good movie. Since it wasn't supposed to be completely unrealistic like "Airplane" or "Naked Gun", I wish they were a little less silly with some of the things relating to time travel (like the people fading out of existence in a picture). However, it is a funny and exciting movie that I enjoy watching.
lukskywlkr. 11/06/2002
I've watched this at least ten times. What made it fun for me were the two lead actors--Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. They couldn't have found two actors who were more perfect for the roles of Marty McFly and Doc. This isn't just about time travel. It's about family and friendship and it's got a lot of heart. The special effects are great too without being overbearing. The way they made it look like the fifties again was great too.
MarkStevenson 09/19/2002
Absolutly perfect movie in all areas. It adds comedy, action, adventure, and sci-fi all into one! It's definatly my favorate movie! Did you know that a couple months ago, it was number 3 on the list of MOST sold DVD's? and guess what, the DVD doesn't even come out untill December 17, 2002! That shows it all. Buy it, pre-order it. Don't even bother to rent it first, its worth the money.
Solenoid DH 07/01/2002
I rarely approve of movies these days, because they nearly ALWAYS push some kind of political or social commentary down our throats (left of center, of course). But this movie is mostly free from that. It succeeds in looking a great deal like the 1950s, something that very few film makers have managed to achieve. It has all kinds of wonderful gags, humor that is both subtle and overt, and even some really warm moments. As a Christian, I don't approve of the frequent foul language, or of Marty planning to go off camping for the weekend with his girl friend. But that's Hollywood. And this is one of the best films they've made.
sexystreif 04/20/2002
I don't like the story line, too much of a kids movie but it's trying to be serious
CastleBee 02/22/2002
Harmless and entertaining fare. I enjoyed it and thought it re-watchable enough to have tuned in more than once when I would see it popup in the TV listings. Christopher Lloyd does his usual excellent job as a bumbling, absent-minded professor – not too far removed from the just as goofy Reverend Jim from his Taxi days. Michael J. Fox doing some of his better film work – if this guy had been born 10 years sooner he’d have been a Disney film regular…he just has the face, voice and personality for it. The story was fairly unique and presented in a lighthearted amusing way. I loved the way the family kept fading away when things went wrong in the past. The sequels weren’t hideous, but, as sequels often do, got lamer as time went by. Overall, I think it has held up well over the years and is still a fun flick for the entire family.
Errol 02/21/2002
Though I wasn't alive in the 50s, I was interested in the 50s when this movie came out. I refused to see it at first. I was sick of the silly, inaccurate TV and movie portrayals of the 50s that were popular just before that. But I kept hearing about it so I finally went and saw it just to get it over with. Not only did Spielberg pay great attention to detail and history, but this was just a great, fun and inspiring movie. It is now one of my all time favorites. The sequel was convoluted. The third of the trilogy was better than the second, but still nowhere near as classic as the first.
