 | OneHungryMonster (2) 08/29/2004 | A terrific adventure story. But other than that, it doesn't really have much substance.

 | irishgit (151) 12/16/2003 | There are some very poor translations, that turn the prose into wooden blocks. If you can find a good one this is a terrific read.

 | LadyShark4534 (12) 10/04/2003 | This novel is one of the best I have read. It's about a journery of a man named Oddyseus who has to get back home and encounters people who want to kill him like Scylla, Charybdis, Polythemus, Circe the goddess, and many others.
This book you will never want to put down. A awesome adventure. Never a tiring moment from when Poor Oddyseus is chased by a tribe of cannibals, to being put on an island with hypnotists called The Lotus-Eaters, from looking at the seductive sirens to when he encounters the six headed angry goddess Scylla.

If you ever read it...get the cliff notes for it!

 | Chaotician23 (0) 03/24/2002 | Like the Illiad, Homer makes something that ages with the pyramids, but is still very interesting and with age. I reccomend WHD Rosue's copy.

 | ellajedlicka21 (6) 11/12/2001 | Reading of the adventures and tribulations of Odysseus really makes for an exciting novel. The book is filled with mythology and symbolism. "Homer," either being a person, committee, or concept is probably the greatest poet/author of the ancient world.

 | MedgarEvers (15) 11/11/2001 | I remember hearing the stories of the cyclops and sirens here and there and it is neat to finally read this book and see where they all came from. It's such a long and well-thought out story and an important piece of Greek culture. Mythology at its most exciting.

 | M'Ress (0) 01/12/2001 | Passion, lyricism, integrity and action-all wrapped up in a huge poetic package. Every possible literary archetype occurs within this epic.

 | kebp (0) 01/10/2001 | I managed to get through this book only because a grade depended on it. Boring. It drove me crazy. Took the guy years to get home. I felt like I lived every long drawn out year with him.

 | bascilla (0) 01/09/2001 | An excellent tall tale and sea yarn. The Odyssey is full of excitement and adventure, and has a very oral narrative style that I particularly enjoy. I'd recommend this book especially if you enjoy campfire stories or folklore.

 | Pookie (0) 01/09/2001 | I am continually baffled by this book. I can never understand why so much emphasis is placed on it in high school literature. If it boring and antiquated. If one must study Greek literature, there are far better examples to be had.

 | Zarbon (0) 12/29/2000 | Loved it. I page turner for me. Though definitely not for everyone itz a great work of art. One of the best I've ever read. And I got a 100 A+ on the test I took on it in the 9th grade. I guess it just reeled me right in. My kind of book. I strongly reccomend it to those who like Adventures and mythological fiction.

 | Nature (0) 11/29/2000 | I sang when reading this book! This book is a must in classical literature. Also, in order to understand the foundation of poetry and modern literature, the Odyssey will show you insight to the core of imagination.

 | mo17kee (0) 11/17/2000 | I love this book because, first off, it was created by a wonderful poet who told his story accurately. An adventure, and a story within a story kept me all but interested in finishing the book.

 | KNEEL (0) 11/15/2000 | This book is supposed to be a classic. The legends are suposed to define the foundations of our society. I didn't see that true. It is a little lengthy.

 | dominic (0) 11/13/2000 | A very, very old book written 3000 years ago about a young man's journey to fight the battle of Troy and all of his adventures on the way home. The story takes place over a span of ten years. This is one of the few books that is fictional, but paints a picture of the ancient Greeks, a wonderful book, a must read.

 | crayolis (0) 11/10/2000 | Prequel to the Illiad. Long and lengthy also. About the rise and fall of power and the journey to get there.

 | mikeabu (0) 10/25/2000 | Long, boring road. Detailed, good for a picture of ancient Greece, but the plot meanders and doesn't carry much punch.

 | dieselgrrl (0) 10/25/2000 | I was forced, at gunpoint, to read Roman mythology by my 10th grade teacher. Well, not gunpoint but it sure felt like it. Homer was actually a good storyteller now that I'm forced to read them again in Humanities. Good but with a little too much repetitiveness.

 | rseymour (0) 10/23/2000 | The Odyssey has the distinction of being one of the oldest works of literature that is still widely read. It is the archetypal hero adventure and books and movies are commonly modeled after it to this day. Once you get past the unfamiliar style and translation it's a really exciting read.

 | frontside5 (0) 10/23/2000 | Very powerful epic displaying a man's adventure through the hardships of pride, power, temptation and family values.

 | segetsu (0) 10/04/2000 | Probably the most famous epic poem in the western world, and read by countless highschoolers everywhere. Definitely not for everyone. Large portions of the book are given to set recitations of people visited, food eaten, and sleeping. Several good parts are the cyclops, Medea, and the ending.

 | nbas696du (0) 12/01/1999 | An exciting adventure story in itself and a lasting work of art. The Odyssey has been the foundation for much of the literature which follows it.

 | aelw668du (0) 11/01/1999 | Homer's Odyssey is one of the best works of fiction, and epic fantasy ever written. It sets the stage for all heroic stories to come as well as serving as a precursor to the fantasy novel.
