Bill Watterson wrote and drew on several levels. The obvious was the cartoon. Less obvious was that the character, Calvin, was based on the religious reformer, John Calvin, and Hobbes was based on the rational philosopher, Thomas Hobbes. The strip only ran for ten years and I really miss it. Perhaps, Watterson said everything that needs be said. Watterson lives in virtual seclusion in Ohio. He refuses interviews, autographs, conventions, etc. It is too bad that the younger people are deprived of a strip that made you think and laugh at the same time.

Quite a collection. I've probably read this one ten times over and I can still pick it up periodically and enjoy Calvin and Hobbes' adventures. It's more lengthy than "Yukon Ho" and "Scientific Progress Goes 'Boink'."

This is better then the original which is not saying much at all.

This was the first Calvin and Hobbes book I bought, and I read it many, many times. I think my favorite story is when Calvin orders the Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs beanie, and he has to wait for it!

Calvin and Hobbes are great characters who remind you of the rampant imagination of childhood. This book is a really good collection of Watterson's work.

Bill Watterson named this book, a compilation of previously published Calvin and Hobbes books, "indespensable," because he thought it was totally unneccessary. However, it's a better choice than buying its component books separately. It's cheaper, it has color Sundays, and it includes a bunch of excellent bonus work.
