A reasonably interesting novel that largely manages to overcome its faintly ridiculous premise, and doesn't get too far down the anthopomorphising trail. Its worth reading, but Adams has written far better books. (Plague Dogs or Shardik for example)

Watership Down was absolutely amazing! Its deffinately one of my top five favorites, and I read a lot! There are many books I've read that I have liked and enjoyed, but Watership Down is different from any of them. I may like it simply because I love animals and stories about them, but its very well written and will get your imagination going.

Eh. It's about rabbits, which for me somewhat limits the emotional involvement...

What a poor book

A great book but I don't see why it is SF and Fantasy... rabbits are hardly Science Fiction... nor fantasy!

I first read this book when I was twelve, and I reread it twice within six months. I've since read it at least once every year or two. It is absolutely in my top ten! I don't know if it's how well put together the rabbit world is--right down to their mythology--or the well-thought out plot. It's definitely not just a book about rabbits. If you're put off by "animal" books or by the thought of reading about "little fluffy bunnies", don't be--it's much more than that.

A wonderful story, but the ending is really sad!

One of my favorite books. Hardly a children's story, Watership Down is a story of freedom - a story of having the courage to leave a comfortable existence and fight against the odds to create something of your own. Through the experiences of a renegade group of rabbits leaving a doomed warren to start their own colony, Adams touches on a number of very big, very human issues. One note of warning - this is a very violent, at times warlike book - I would not recommend it for young children.

A surprisingly enlightened children's book that details the survival of a community of rabbits through adversity. A story that can entertain a child as it brings an adult to more deeply consider life, friendship, and community

I read this after I'd read some of the Redwall books...it's good, very scientific, but it didn't grab my attention. I think that some British writings are just too dry.

Although others may disagree, it felt nihilistic to me. It was good but I wouldn't read it again.
