I have went through periods of time where I would watch the food channel nonstop and Alton Brown's show Good Eats was a show that I would rather watch a rerun of than a new episode of some other show...He has these funny, theatrical openings to the show, that usually showcase the history of the food he is making and he is full of facts and experiments. He is the Bill Neigh The Science Guy of cooking. Some of the stuff he has done will stick with me for life. One time he showed why to cut meat thinly against the grain. He tied up several pieces of garden hose in a bundle and "chewed it" (made his arms separate the hoses like teeth would the fibers of meat) both lengthwise and and width wise... The one cut thinly through all the hoses instead of leaving the pieces long, exploded into tiny bits of hose with minimal touching. Where as the longer pieces were harder to separate and just tangled and flew around all over the place lolI love that guy.

The best show on TV.

Good show with the quirky Alton Brown doing his "Mr. Science" bit explaining how everything works. Thank goodness someone is trying to make us all smarter in a relatively painless way. And make some good food along the way.

I love this show since it taught me all I know of food

My favorite cooking show, its entertaining, educational, and has good recipes all in one show.

I sort of like this TV food nerd and his silly scientific approach to cooking. At least he is entertaining with his dry humor and his sarcastic wit.

I like his recipes, but his show is actually educational, which I find refreshing.

Love it. I think Alton Brown is a goofball, but in a good way, and I love the science behind the food.

Best cooking show on TV (well, I like Iron Chef too) The host, Eldon Brown, is likable enough but the real appeal is that they often take common, seemingly mundane things and show how to make them the best way and explain why it IS the best way. He once made a grilled cheese sandwich and with all the little things he did, when I tried it it was the best grilled cheese I'd ever had.

Quirky guy always teaches me something new and interesting. I can't remember his name, but he's good.

This man is so annoying to me, I cant stand this show, I'd rather watch M*A*S*H. How the hell did he get a cooking show. I do not watch the Food Network to learn about Science experiments, he needs to "Stick to the Food", Hes absolutely boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ms. Katina Smith

This guy makes good food, but that kid on his show is so damn annoying!!! He's no Rachael Ray that's for sure!!!
rel2020 10/02/2005
He makes cooking what it is supposed to be, FUN!
rateitgal7 06/19/2005
This is entertaining and fun to watch! He not only tells you the steps and ingredients in a recipe, he tells you the science behind the cooking, so that you know what will happen if you make a mistake.

If I was a home-ec teacher (do they still have them?) I would make the class watch this show every Friday. What a wonderful way to spend half an hour.

Great to learn about a certain food and also learn a few recipes on that food in a fun and interesting way. Great way to learn and to get to know that cooking is not really that hard.
shoeempress 01/24/2005
The only cooking show that is watchable. Funny, interesting, love it.

The best cooking show. Period. Educating and entertaining at the same time.

No one works this hard to teach us about food and the science and technology of food. Always entertaining. Always learn tidbits, do's and do not's. Normally would not incorporate quite as much farce humor but I'm not even going to complain about this as it is fun and fits well.

Ignatius, you are right. I tried following recipies all my life untill I found Alton Brown. He explains, HOW and WHY food works the way it does. That way, you know what has gone wrong when something doesn't turn out the way you wanted it to. He is very funny and makes cooking interesting. I will also add that his books are even better than his show.

What a great way to introduce science and cooking together! Great mixture!

Entertaining and informative, its one of the few shows on the Food Network that I will stop surfing to watch. The host is a bit of a dork, but in a fun/silly way, and he does seem to know what he's doing. Enjoyable.

I am young and this show as showed me so much. It has allowed me to play with my food and know what its doing. Alton makes it fun, easy and yet entertaining. Thanks Alton I love you!

I was looking at a site called chef2chef where professional chefs yak at each other. They rank Alton Brown right up there - I think he is like #3 in the whole USA. That is a stunning recommendation from his own peers. His is the only show on the food net that my computer tapes automatically. (I don't own a tv)

This show is EXCELLENT. Brown is intelligent and engaging. He explains complicated concepts in a simple and effective manner. Alton Brown is great.
MeatLamp 05/29/2003
The main reason why this is such a great show is that Alton Brown is a supernerd who cooks. Damn right.
ursuspolaris00 05/21/2003
Great show and Alton explains why things happen in the kitchen...kinda cool!
pigwiggle 05/06/2003
very good if you already know how to cook. if a person didn't know how to cook it might discourage them from wanting to try. it IS fun to watch.

Alton is the best. I learn so much from him on Wednesdays. Thank you! Now thats GOOD EATS!
vetteman03 01/15/2003
Best show on the Food Network. Very, and I mean, VERY entertaining... Alton Brown also knows A LOT. Each show is about a certain ingrediant. When he does a show, he knows EVERYTHING about the ingredient at hand.
EricTKO 12/15/2002
Very funny and informative.
