This is a series which has continued to improve with every release, starting with a fairly trad comic fantasy approach, particularly in the first two and quickly becoming a mirror of the modern world. This is where the discword gains the majority of its humor and this coupled with Pratchetts imaginative plots, easy writing style and superlative cast of characters makes for a brilliant series.

If Douglas Adams & Dave Barry had never published books, Terry Pratchett would be the #1 comedy writer. These books are very original (usually, but often with a twist on other stories), very funny & there are enough of them to keep you busy for a long time. I've been reading them, off & on, since I was about 15 years old (I'm 30 now). There are probably more than 30 books (maybe around 40?) in the discworld series (the 1st I read was Pyramids. If you can get any with the witches, Ogg & Weatherwax +1 (like in the Wyrd Sisters, they're a blast. And the magician Rincewind, with his little box (there aren't enough books about them!!!) are awesome too. I believe Sourcery was about Rincewind, and one of the 1st ones had I read.

These books are exceptionaly entertaining. Philosophical and funny, each book different, and the more you read, the more you understand the characters and the discworld itself. Truely, only Terry Pratchett would set a fantasy series in a world which is held up by elephants, which are in turn standing on a giant turtle, and then ask 'what is the sex of the turtle?'

Not all of the series is totally top-notch, but there are enough gems to keep the whole franchise afloat...

The Discworld series is just the best series I´ve ever read. It never gets boring, there is always something new in each book. You can read them for light entertainment, as they are incredibly funny. But at the same time, they are deeply philosophical (they tend to get more serious over time) and give you a lot to think about, without ever losing their humour. I wouldn´t believe it if I hadn´t read them all.

A disc, turtles, the grim reaper, funny gods, (bad) luck, etc. Absurdity enters the disc and never seems to fall of like some other unlucky bastards. Very nice swithch from the more serious fantasy works.

These are fun books to read. And though a chrnological order to read them is good, one can read then in random order as they stand on themselves. And thats the (small) flaw as well. As these books can be read seperatly you are not draw from one to the next as with some great series.

i first got into these books through the game, and i'm his fan since then. i really like it how he makes fun of every aspect of life, especially logic. i recomend people to read them in the chronological order, cus some jokes are built through the series, but if you want to pick a good one go for moving pictures.

This is the only long series (very long) that keeps getting better with every book. From a very funny, witty hilarious genre parody, the series has evolved into a very funny witty hilarious satyre on the way human beings think about the basics of life: life, of course, and death and love and religion and society and government and entertainment and taxes... etc. The books get deeper, the author's generous and warm insight into the mechanics of communal living in a city, a village, a country, more and more tought provoking. In brief, wehn you pick yourself up from the floor, face drenched in tears of laughter, you realise you've been laughing at very scary serious things and find out you can then think about them much more clearly then before. Really priceless. A word of advice, if you wish to start reading the series start with "Mort", if you like people, "Wyrd Sisters", if you like the theatre and "Guards GUards" if you're into politics. Then go on forward or back, as you please, by that time you'll be hooked too.

The Discworld series are without doubt the funniest and most imaginative series out there, no matter what the theme. The world itself is unique (you have to read it to believe it), and its characters, from the witches to wizards to dwarfs to Death neatly fit in it. The plot and subplotlines are hilarious, and worth a second read and more. The world really could use more people like Terry Pratchett.

Terry Pratchett has a great sense of humor and I always enjoy reading these books.
