Purina Yesterday's News Paper-Based Cat Litter 1

Very very bad! I started using this product because since it's dust-free, and environmentally friendly, I thought it would be a good alternative to a cheap grocery store brand I used up till now. I was wrong.
After 2 days, my clean little lady started searching frantically for a spot where she could go, and somehow she started scratching on my bed - I almost got a heart attack. I grabbed her just in time before a disaster happened, but she dropped some bombs on the way to the box. The next time I actually got her to the litter box, and she refused to go in. I took the lid off, so she pooed balancing on the edge of the box, so her feet wouldn't touch the litter. Today, after only two days I dumped all the litter from the box and as I was scooping it into a plastic bag, it smelled like bleach for some reason - don't know how healthy that is for my kitties.

Bottom line: completely un-scoopable and unhygienic, cats hate it, smells bleachy when wet

Well, it was a complete waste of money, I gotta go and buy a replacement today.

When we adopted our cat from the animal shelter, I wanted the trasition to be as easy as possible for him I asked the shelter people what kind of kitty litter they used and they told me Yesterdays News because of the low dust factor and multi cat absorption. I bought it and at first I was skeptical as it was not a typical "clumping" litter but this stuff is fantastic! I replace it once a week and scoop daily and there is no odor at all unless you are literally cleaning the box! Now if I could only find a box that my cat will not throw it all out of, I am good. He is too large for the ones with the lids (20 plus pounds and huge) so I am still searching for a box with a lip that is big enough for him.

I purchased this litter "Yesterday's News/Softer Texture-Fresh Scent" for post surgery reasons (my kitty was being declawed) and it was supposed to be a temporary change until she was healed. Well, I was quite surprised to find, I actually liked this litter! I thought at first "not" being clumping and scooping it would be low on my litter list....but, it scores very high in other areas.

$$$ is high / but you actually use less....so it comes out the same
Absorbency is 5 star...can't be better!
Odor is practically none! This really surprised me the most!
Tracking is no longer a daily mess/problem

So....all in all....I scoop out the solid waste daily as I find it and once a week, I throw out the entire pellet contents. It is as simple as that! Each week I line a brand new trash bag in the litter box, put in 2-3 inches of pellets and I am good for an entire week! Occasionally, I rotate the pellets in the box....but they are really good for a week and WITHOUT a cat urine odor! For what I thought would be more trouble and I assumed more odor.....turned out to be so much easier and would you believe a BETTER smelling area? I am not going back to the traditional stuff! My kitty is only 7 months old....maybe when she is bigger, I will end up changing the box out every 5 days....but that's OK for me!

Oh....it did take her a day or two to transition to the new feel of the pellets....she didn't like it at first, but I would physically place her in the box and she would do her business...now she has accepted them and everything is just great.

I am a clean freak with a severe dust allergy. My cats, at 16 and 18 pounds, are pee and poop machines. I'd been using clay litter for years, and just put up with the dust it created and the fact that my cats tracked it EVERYWHERE in my home. I ignored the asthma attacks I got changing the litter. I ignored the occasional revolting clump of dirty cat litter on my kitchen table or bathroom counter or anyplace else they like to climb. What I could not ignore was the fact that their new diet cat food made their urine smell indescribably bad. In fact, the litter box, which I clean obsessively, made my whole apartment smell like cat pee all the time.

This is why I decided it was time to risk trying something new. So I bought a bag of Yesterday's News at Petco and tried it out. I mixed half and half with the clay litter for one week, then switched over entirely. My cats weren't thrilled with the change (it's a harsher feeling on the paws), but they used the box right away and have had no accidents. I, on the other hand, have been totally thrilled! I no longer step on cat litter when I walk by the box, I no longer find it anywhere but inside the box (except for a stray piece or two near the box). My allergies have improved. My house no longer stinks. I can't believe I never tried this sooner! With two large cats, I change this litter once a week, although that's probably not necessary.

In short, the good stuff: Fantastic odor control, virtually no tracking, and definitely no dust. No urine to scoop out daily, as it just gets absorbed.

The bad stuff: You must be diligent about scooping out the poo. It's harder for the kitties to fully cover it, and therefore the smell seems stronger. But as long as you remove it every day you'll find that overall odor control is much better with this litter.

In the house this product is a godsend. Clean and easy to clean up the strays that make their way out of the cat box. This was recommended by my Vet., for post-surgical use.
