Yes, I'm an alumnus. However, as my son considers attending and playing Tribe football (with zero prompting from me)I have to say it seems over-priced. Harvard tuition is comparable, and the Harvard degree will open doors. I had a great time and grew up a lot at W&M, and my folks paid out-of-state tuition. At the time, it was considerably less expensive than the small liberal arts schools my siblings attended, or Princeton, which I opted not to attend because I didn't want to bankrupt my parents. However, for out-of-state students, in the intervening years the price gap has narrowed between W&M and other, more elite schools, I think. Still one of the most romantic, historic campuses in the country. I can still remember romantic moments with my eventual first wife on Crim Dell Bridge. Very good faculty who actually teach. Mild climate. I'm confident current students are getting good educations and a quality overall experience if they are trying for that. However, the price concerns me.

Famous alums include Political Genius Thomas Jefferson and Fake News purveyor Jon Stewart. Being I live near the school, I do know it's where all the rich kids go to. But although you pay Ivy League prices, I don't think you get the Ivy League degree that opens doors.

It's one of those days where I am strolling along the bricked pathway, it's 66 degrees outside, not a cloud in the sky, and there is a nice cool breeze blowing through the Sunken Gardens in "Old Campus". Students are playing Frisbee while others are sprawled out on blankets reading and laughing under the shade of oaks. Can it get any better? Being a student here, I am having the best time (social-wise) and simply adore the professors here. I can not even fathom being at any other school.

Great school, hard core education, but this university tries to act like a private university as of late. If you want to go to a school where you'll get luxury and hot chicks, DON'T COME HERE. If you want to prepare yourself for grad school however, this will get you in line for it. If you want to go to a university that William and Mary aspires to model after, just go 50 miles west to the University of Richmond, which is essentially a W&M with money.

A great academic environment that lacks the arrogance of the University of Virginia. To the guy who quotes T. Jefferson on W&M....did you know that TJ died owing William & Mary (as well as many other notable Virginians of the day)a lot of money? Maybe that colored his attitude towards his Alma Mater?

This is the only school I can see myself at. Once I toured the grounds and met with students, I knew that I had to go here! I LOVE W & M.

I'm always amused how you guys like to tell people that Thomas Jefferson went to William & Mary. Well, here's what Thomas Jefferson thought of W&M: We have in that state a college just well enough endowed to draw out the miserable existence to which a miserable constitution has doomed it. Nonetheless, it's a good school.

W&M gets marked down every year for the same reasons: (1) poorly funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia, (2) located in a sleepy town/not a big party school, (3) unable to attract big-name faculty/performing acts, (4) generally easier to get into than an Ivy League school, and (5) generally harder to get an 'A' than at an Ivy League school. Those concerns, though they may be legitimate, should not overshadow all of the things that make W&M an outstanding school, a place not just to earn a degree but to receive an education. If you embrace life, have a love for history and tradition, rejoice in academic challenges -- if you are looking for great classes, students, and faculty (some of the top teaching talent in the nation), an administration that cares deeply for the students it strives to serve, and an inspiringly beautiful campus, and if you want to one day end up a well-rounded, marketable, and successful graduate -- you'll not find a school better than the College of William and Mary.

Gorgeous campus, wonderful academics, friendly faculty and staff, and a fairly close-knit community relative to most universities. While Williamsburg is far from an urban setting, it is ideal for college life--especially with such a difficult grading system. All in all, the location of the College at the corner of historic colonial Williamsburg provides for a very peaceful and surreal educational experience unlike any other this side of the atlantic. I'd like to add that the 2nd highest suicide rate comment is far from the truth, as a number of well-documented studies suggest that suicide rate at W&M is roughly 1/4 that of other major universities.

A great school academically, but it did have the 2nd highest suicide rate of colleges in the country.

In the 20s is the perfect spot for W&M. It's a great place to go to school, but right now it's not top 20. Pros: Fantastic education & professors teach virtually every class. Also, the price is right if you're a resident of Virginia. Drawbacks include the fact that it's not located in an urban setting, so there's less to do. Also, grading there is pretty tough.
