After owning and using various GPS devices for many years, this seemed like a nice step forward. I will never know as the device never worked. It crashed again and again as I attempted to start it for the first time. After spending many hours working at it with TomTom customer support, they reached the conclusion I came to in the first 10 minutes - the device was defective. Although their supportive staff were nice, it took 6 of them and hours to figure out it was defective. THEN they told me that the company policy is not to pay for shipping. They expected me to pay to ship a device back to them that arrived broken. Huh? Does this mean I was very unlucky or that their devices aren't so hot or that there quality control is poor? I don't know. If you buy one maybe you can figure it out.

Got a 930 a few days ago. My GPS experience is limited to what I have used in rental cars. I have used both Garmin and Magellan(Hertz-NeverLost)in rental cars. First-doesnt work right out of the box. The maps that it comes with are worthless. Unit doesnt have enough onboard memory to even accept the updated operating system. You must by an SD card to load the updates and maps. You must buy the maps online and they are $79 of the US-Canada. Then after you have purchased you 4GB SD card and purchased and downloaded maps and updates and disconnect the unit-it fails to recognize the card on the next power-up. You will tear your hair out and chew off your arm. Next, to use the TomTom Home on your computer (even after you install it) you must put the disc in. God help you if you lose the disc or cant find it. After the holidays when I get some money I am going to get the Garmin 880.

I've used the GO 930 for about a month and am satisfied overall. I love the feature that allows me to back into the departure time, based on anticipated length of travel (Of course one has to anticipate rush hours, etc. and add time on for that). The maps are up to date, and the graphics are good. I would have liked to be able to change the font size for street names. The computer generated voice breaks up as its "speaking" sometimes, and the pronunciations are often hilarious, but usually useful. One feature that my five year old Garmin had was a calibration mode, which could be used to improve the triangulation of the car with the satellites. The TomTom thinks I'm farther away from my location that I actually am, which is problematic when navigating in the city where streets are close together and often unmarked (Boston). I have missed streets because the voice tells me "turn right!" as I pass a street. This can be complicated by the video not catching up with my location either, nec... Read more

we used this device in europe. instructions easy to understand. user-friendly. totally amazed by its accuracy of roadways, tolls, hotels, location of gas stations and restaurants. however it failed us in Milan to note that the Car Museum was closed for renovation prior to our arrival to the museum. we lost some valuable time that afternoon touring Milan, Italy.

I love, love, love my TomTom 930T. My husband and I bought the 920 in May '08 and later exchanged it for the upgraded 930 for the extra features! We've used our TomTom all over the country and there is no question we would be lost without it. I've only noticed I had a problem seeing the screen when I had polarized sunglasses on. When I take those off for a sec, I can see the screen perfectly, even when it's sunny! By the way, the screen is huge. TomTom tells me the name of the street that I am suppose to turn on, and that for me is a required feature. My TomTom has bluetooth which I use ALL of the time so I don't have to wear that stupid ear peice. My husband loves the traffic receiver. You can buy service or we found that we receive the same info by just using the little wire this model comes with. There is no need to pay for the service! I'll end this by saying again, I love, love, love my TomTom 930T!
