cute book about a very smart magical girl who was born into a horrible family. she goes to this school who has an equally awful principal who is mean to the children. she is lucky enough to get a wonderful teacher who is the niece of the principal. Mathilda and the teacher work together to get rid of the awful principal and get the house back the aunt took from the niece. cute book with happy ending.

A hilariously funny and entertaining story from start to finish. An extremely intellegent child who has special powers is repeatedly neglected by her parents, she finds comfort in reading and studying. She uses her special powers to heal her own wounds and those of her sweet schoolteacher, Miss Honey. It is definately appealing to children, making adults out to be the rotton ones (something that most kids would agree with). I certainly suggest that everyone read this novel at least once in thier life.

I was already a Dahl fan by the time I read this one, but Dahl's magic is strongest in my favorite tale of a child genius.

Matilda is one of Roald Dahl's lesser efforts to write a children's book. Matilda isn't as imaginative as his other works like Charlie and The Chocolate Factory or James and The Giant Peach. It's pretty rude, and disturbing and kind of dark and gothic. The movie was pretty bad too. Matilda s a readable, but slow story.

Roald Dahl is one of the most imaginative authors for children's books ever. Matilda is a book that will definitely appeal to children. There is constant portrayal of wicked adults and a little girl who is smarter than any of them. To top it off, she has magical powers so she can control them. This might sound negative, but it's all in fun and there is one good adult present in the story.

"Matilda" is a modern fairy tale that mesmerizes children from the start. It's the story of a highly intelligent young girl (Matilda) who is dealing with loser parents and problems at school. Realizing that she has magical powers, Matilda takes things into her own hands and changes her life and the life of the kindly schoolteacher who believes in her. The story is filled with fascinating characters, clever surprises, and lots of dark humor, typical of Roald Dahl. It's refreshing to see a girl as the protagonist. When I taught second grade, my students voted "Matilda" their favorite read-aloud book of the year at least six times. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with anything written by Roald Dahl.

unlike my children, as a rule i'm not fond of dahl's books. matilda has proved to be a huge exception: we all love it!

I identified with Matilda so well when I was little.
