In my book, this man is The Ugly American. While he was waging war on terrorists, he became, perhaps, the biggist terrorist in American history by waging lethal chemical warfare on his own people. He was recruited to salvage the beleaguered drug company, G.D. Searle. The problem they were having was with aspartame (Nutra Sweet), a neuro-excitor and known carcinogen. This crap drilled holes into more monkey brains and killed more lab animals than any known substance. Searle chemists sued Searle to stop the release if this stuff. Even the FDA tried to stop the manufacture of aspartame. It's only benefit is that it is nearly 200 times sweeter than sugar. Enter Rumsfeld, who saw that his only chance at saving Searle (he was the CEO) was to put the scientific data aside and call in his political markers and he had a lot of them, as a Washington insider. He convinced the FDA to allow the use of aspartame in dry foods. The reason for this is that the soft drink industry knew what would happen if they dissolved that stuff in their sodas...the aspartame would produce at least 2 really bad things: formaldehyde and something called DKP, which kills nerves and brain cells...linking them to Multiple sclerosis, ALS, memory loss, hormonal problems, hearing loss, Epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Hypoglycemia, brain lesions, neuroendocrine disorders, headaches/migraines, nausea, abdominal pains, fatigue (by blocking sufficient glucose from entrying into brain), sleep disorders, vision problems, panic attacks, asthma and depression.

So, how did this happen? Rumsfeld was part of Reagan's transition team and who was convinced by Donald to fire the Chairman of the FDA and replace him with Dr. Arthur Hayes Jr, whose first job as Chairman was to by-pass the data and approve Nutra Sweet for use in dry foods, which opened the door to the soft drink industry and the subsequent 10,000+ products which are consumed by over 100 million Americans. It's wreaking havoc on the bodies of Americans and one of the main reasons why I have stressed that more, or better, or cheaper insurance, or Universal Health Care will be useless. No one can be healthy until stuff like this is taken out of the food chain.

Sorry, about this, but have you looked at your pack of Juicy Fruit Gum lately...or most any chewing gum? They slipped it in there, too...

If you want to accurately blast Rumsfeld, blast him for being what Colin Powell refused to be- a lap dog for Bush. Clinton, Bush 41, Reagan, Carter, Ford, and even Nixon were all open to discussion and alternative ideas. LBJ had the reputation of being the quintessential micro-manager/ "my way or the highway" President. Do some research and you will find that our current President makes LBJ look like the poster boy for open minds. Rumsfeld's greatest fault was believing in Bush to a fault.

Rumsfeld should have his name changed to Rumpsfeld. He is exactly as coined, an asshole. He has no regard for the troops that are working for hime. Telling them that dying is part of war and that additional armor would not help them anyway. He should be out there walking around as is and see if he wish that he had retracted his statement. Rumsfeld has his head up Bush's ass like others in Bush's administration.

I think this guy died in 1877 and just hasn't fallen over yet, what a liar, what an incompetant, has he EVER served in a war?? Has anyone from this administraion, I mean shrub and cheney, they get us into this war and they have NO experience at all, and won't listen to those who DO have experience--they should all be tried as traitors! Clinton did not need to have to reorganize our military because he never lied to get us into a war we did not need to be in! And, obviously Rummy knows what he is doing as there are almost 2000 young Americans dead, countless thousands maimed and it is not one bit better now than it was 2 years ago! Good Job Rummy :--(((

There are some problems with Rumsfeld's defense posture that have been and will continue to be problematic if they are not fixed soon. Basically Rumsfeld has bought into the notion of 'transformation', which means that we can sustain military operations and dominance by way of technological means, such as new missile systems and space-warfare innovations that can precisely hit a target from far above. In such a scheme, the speed and lethality of the US armed forces are given a higher priority rather than more mundane and labor-intensive matters needed to maintain law and order through a military occupation. This requires troops, skills and equipment to maintain. Technology may be good to fight conventional wars, but for unconventional conflicts like Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, technology clearly has its limits. There comes a point where our manned forces need the proper support to sustain on-the-ground operations, which is a critical aspect of the war on terrorism. Unfortunately, the army in particular hasn't received enough support from the civilian authorities in the Pentagon lead by Donald Rumsfeld. Meanwhile, the Army and Marines find themselves in the midst of the worst recruitment crisis they've had since the end of the Vietnam War. Bad enough that they have actually been forced to lower basic requirements for entry into the armed forces and even then, they have to provide a high amount of inducements just to bring them into the fold so they can fulfill their quotas. An emerging problem however might not necessarily be new recruits, which will probably go back up after we leave Iraq, but rather the potential for a mass exodus of mid-level military professionals much like what happened after Vietnam. Basically there comes a point where people stop taking the back-to-back deployments and decide that the commitment simply isn't worth it, especially when they're not getting the proper support they need from civilian management. Senior military officers are now torn, yes; we did manage to topple the regimes in Iraq and Afghanistan with lightening speed, but defeat paradoxically still nags at them, particularly because we haven't been able to secure either target from major insurgencies. Indeed, most senior officers recognize this paradox and have pointed out the precarious state of our operations in Iraq. Rumsfeld has not helped the situation by politicizing the military part of the defensive secretaries office. General Jay Garner, who was originally chosen to run Iraq went to the media and told reporters that if the officers disagreed with the civilian authorities, they would ostracized and removed from their jobs, their reputations ruined. Such an environment, similar to the one during the Johnson administration in Vietnam, has demoralized much of the rank-and-file, thus creating an even more dangerous situation in Iraq. The main paradox here, like in Vietnam is that while there's no way we can militarily lose there, there's also no way we can win. We haven't lost any battles in Iraq, but yet the insurgency rages on. Additionally, the high concentration of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a leaked internal Pentagon report, has limited the amount of operations the military can undertake simultaneously due to a lack of recruits. Career generals like Eric Shinseki have been fired just for pointing out this reality to Rumsfeld. Seems to me that even dissent viewpoints are terminally punished. Shinseki, who pointed out to congress before the Iraq war that several hundred thousand troops would be needed to secure Iraq after the initial ground operation came to a conclusion. For this, he was fired and discredited. This is just one example of the autocratic tendencies of this administration, starting at the top and going down. The path they're treading is all too familiar and unfortunately it is leading to the demoralization of much of the non-political staff in the military.

So Rumsfeld, when you told Saddam that the use of Chemical weapons in Iran would not hinder US aid to him (under orders from Reagan) is that when you knew he had weapons of mass distruction, or was it when you sold him those same chemicals 5 yrs earlier through the pharmaceutical company you ran as CEO? OK, that put aside. Next point, what the hell kind of military strategic planning experience does he have? Hell, none whatsoever! Thats why he thought he could invade iraq & be welcomed as a liberator.Hahahahaha Moron. He also has no understanding of the Middle East (he may have been a special envoy, but that was because he had business dealings with Saddam & other dictators in the area -specifically selling pharmaceutical chemicals aka duel use chemicals) And last but not least, this guy didn't think that if someone invades people are going to fight? Did he think we were invading France?

The most notable Cold Warrior retread/political hack hangeroner fossil among the so-called "advisors" supposedly leading the clueless George W through his on-the-job training. An arrogant and self-impressed clown who strutted around during the early going of the war and threw down that "with us or against us" canard when cooler, saner heads questioned the validity and need for this dubious military misadventure. A twerp and a phony who was a prime mover and shaker in selling this totally elective and unnecessary act of aggression against Iraq to the noncomprehending American public, who basked in his power and influence while he led the best interests of this country to Hell in a handbasket. Now that the "Mission Accomplished" aspect of Bushie's Iraq debacle has been shown up for the failure it truly is, the hostilities continue in a state of out-and-out anarchy/chaos in that beleagured country and U.S. casualties continue to mount for the most spurious of reasons, Rumsfeld doesn't come off as the great leader and genius we were led to believe he was. This turd totally underestimated the scope of the social, political and attitudinal dynamics in Iraq, totally underestimated the will of those folks in that country who are antithetical to Western values and will defend to the death their beloved homeland. Rumsfeld and rest of the idiots in his cadre operated under the flawed and ridiculous assumption that our professional killers (i.e., the military misfits the drooler faction is still worshipping) would be considered "liberators," when the actuality is these unfortunates are really considered "invaders." The end result is that the U.S. bit off more than it could chew, ushered in a state of chaos that is no better for the average Iraqi citizen than the conditions they suffered under Saddam, caused countless billions of dollars in infrastructure and property damage in that country and killed thousands of civilians, alienated what used to be called "the Western alliance," alienated and totally dissed the U.N., and turned most of the free world against us. Our military is spread so thin that the Pentagon would be hard pressed to come up with sufficient troop numbers in the event of trouble suddenly springing up in another part of the world, which means if this so-called "War on Terror" is to continue, Americans are going to have to get used to the idea of re-instituting the draft. That's gonna go over big, believe me. And as there's no exit strategy in place regarding Iraq, it's very likely that U.S. casualties will continue to mount, Bushie's war initiative will continue to cost the taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars that would be better spent in this country to address social ills and economic problems, and the overall peace and security in the Middle East will continue to be compromised by this heavyhanded, jackhammer storm trooper approach devised by Rummy. And as this guy is the prime architect of this fiasco, it tells you plenty about the wisdom of Bushie in employing old and in the way retards like Rumsfeld in such important and sensitive policy-making positions. Darling of the Droolers turns into an ineffectual sack of crap before your very eyes!!! Actually, he was a sack of crap to begin with, but the American public, poisoned by the nonsense barfed up by the conservative-controlled media were mystified once again, and the droolers still don't get it. The 2003 Elections can't come soon enough to rid Washington of the stale fart known as The Bush Administration II, and Rumsfeld will prove to be the noxious vapor best dispensed.

This man is indisputably evil. He has been hanging around Washington influencing things for decades, and none of them for the better. This man posed for photographs with Saddam Hussein in the 80's as the envoy who endorsed the Iraqi leader's chemical and biological attacks on Iran, and then took part in the latest war on Iraq, a war which will go down in history as the single most cowardly campaign ever fought. This man is a psychopathic murderer who paraphrases Churchill, knowing damn well that the average American has no idea who Winston Churchill was (hint: he was the drunken lout whose only, ONLY asset was a good speaking voice) and thus taking credit for that man's witticisms. I cannot even express how much hatred I have for the Bush administration, and Rumsfeld is one of the higher ups in that regime. America should either rid themselves of men like this, or give up hope entirely.
