Compared to Burress or Pacman, Manny isn't in the competition. He's a galaxy class headcase, but his biggest brush with the law has been getting cited for jaywalking, coming out of Safeco Field in Seattle by a cop who didn't recognize him. (Which suggests a non-fan, given those immense dreadlocks) Apparently, a bunch of fans watched while the cop wrote a ticket to the contrite Ramirez, told him that being a visitor to Seattle was no excuse, and went about his business.

In the summer, Manny looked like he was going to win this award. While with the Red Sox, he had a physical alteration with Kevin Youklis and the team's travel secretary and asked out of the starting lineup against the Yankees and refused to run out a ground ball in another game.

The Red Sox were so intent on getting Rid of Manny they offered to pay the remainder of his contract, and the Los Angeles Dodgers stepped in and aquirred him in a thre team deal which include the Pirates, where the Red Sox got Jason Bay.

While with the Dodgers, however Manny cleaned up his act and was on his best behavior and helped the Dodgers win the the NL West. Thus because of his good behavior with the Dodgers he goes down one notch in his rating and he avoids being Knucklehead Athlete of the Year.
