A beautiful story with powerful female characters. I love a great heroine and this book is just full of them! Arthur's story from a female's perspective. It's long, but it's fabulous!

Very good fiction written by an author who knew her History as well as her Mythology.

This was a brilliant retelling of Camelot from the perspective of Morgan le Fey. Didn't necessarily make her into a heroin, but you do come to understand why she might want to take on Arthur.

Makes you think about the story of King Arthur in a diiferent light. A definite must read for anyone who likes the fantasy genre.

This is my favorite book. I've lost count as to how many times I've re-read it. It's just such a good story. I agree with lorief, it's nice to see the characters as human and fallible. Because of this, we get to see and understand more of the motivation behind everyone's actions. Her take on Christianity as the new cult vs the old pagan ways is interesting as well. All in all, a fantastic read. I highly recommend it to anyone even remotely interested.

Fantasy meets Alternate History. Truly unique treatment of Authurian legend. Well written, realistically bittersweet with very believable characters. I can't say enough good stuff, so I won't.

Definitely disagree with a previous reviewer who couldn't imagine reading it more than once -- I've read it a number of times, and get more out of it each time. Marion Zimmer Bradley has written some excellent books, both before and since, Mists of Avalon, but I suspect this will be the one she's remembered for. Is she the first to write Arthur's tale from the point of view of one of the female characters? Probably a first to show Arthur and the many other characters as human and fallible. Of all the many versions of the Arthurian legend that I've read, this remains my favourite.

It was VERY good the first time, but the type of book you only want to read once.
