Actually I didn't think his comments about other NHL players dating his ex-girl friends("I am going to say one thing. I am really happy to be back in Calgary. I love Canada. I just want to comment on how, it has become a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I do not know what that is about, but enjoy the game,")  was such an outrageous statement.

 But the fatcats at NHL offices did and came down on Avery in a very harsh manner by suspending for six games and ordered to go anger management for "unacceptable and antisocial" behavior "at odds with the manner in which his more than 700 fellow players conduct themselves" while the Stars organization didn't want Avery back.

And when you consider NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and league disciplinarian Colin Campbell had warned Avery about his behavior and Stars coach Dave Tippet had warned him about making comments about his ex-girlfriends, Avery has to get some knucklehead athlete of the year consideration.
